X-ray Scattering Echoes and Ghost Halos from the Intergalactic Medium: Relation to the nature of AGN variability
Lia Corrales

Abstract: X-ray bright quasars might be used to trace dust in the circumgalactic and intergalactic medium through the phenomenon of X-ray scattering, which is observed around Galactic objects whose light passes through a sufficient column of interstellar gas and dust. Of particular interest is the abundance of grey dust larger than 0.1 um, which is difficult to detect at other wavelengths. To calculate X-ray scattering from large grains, one must abandon the traditional Rayleigh-Gans approximation. The Mie solution for the X-ray scattering optical depth of the Universe is ~1%. This presents a great difficulty for distinguishing dust scattered photons from the point source image of Chandra, which is currently unsurpassed in imaging resolution. The variable nature of AGN offers a solution to this problem, as scattered light takes a longer path and thus experiences a time delay with respect to non-scattered light. If an AGN dims significantly (> 3 dex) due to a major feedback event, the Chandra point source image will be suppressed relative to the scattering halo, and an X-ray echo or ghost halo may become visible. I estimate the total number of scattering echoes visible by Chandra over the entire sky: N_ech ~ 10^3 (nu_fb / yr^-1), where nu_fb is the characteristic frequency of feedback events capable of dimming an AGN quickly.
La literatura como recurso didáctico complementario en la ense?anza y aprendizaje de la dermatología

Abstract: introduction. to classify literary texts from a medical perspective facilitates their application in the teaching and learning of medicine and dermatology. materials and methods. qualitative analysis of multiple literary texts and selection of those texts that contain references to a common skin disease (acne), which was selected as a paradigm. results. a classification was carried out of the literary texts analyzed, based on five groups: autobiography of the skin disease; the writer describing skin disease in others; skin disease as a stylistic device in literature; the physician as writer: stylistic devices in the medical description of the disease; and medical texts related to selected literary texts. conclusions. the literary texts, from a medical perspective, can be classified into five groups; this classification facilitates their implementation as a didactic resource in medical education and specialised dermatology teaching.
Plataforma para descubrimiento de servicios en ambientes ubicuos

Revista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia , 2011,
Abstract: the capability to easily find useful services in ubiquitous environments becomes increasingly critical in several application domains. current approaches for ubiquitous services retrieval are mostly limited to the matching of their inputs/ outputs possibly enhanced with some ontological knowledge. recent research has demonstrated that this approach is not sufficient to discover relevant services. motivated by these concerns, this work proposes a service discovery platform in ubiquitous environments based on behavior matchmaking. we argue that in many situations the service composition process requires a service discovery phase based on matchmaking of behavior specifications of the components. consequently, even if a service that meets exactly the user requirements does not exist, the most similar ones will be retrieved.
MOBFLOW: Movilidad para los procesos de negocio de la organización
Aponzá V,Gustavo Adolfo; Dorado G,Henry William; Corrales,Juan Carlos;
Revista Ingenierías Universidad de Medellín , 2011,
Abstract: this paper presents the mobflow platform (mobile flow), a system that allows partition, distribution and execution of business processes in mobile environments described through bpel standard. also, mobflow monitors the execution of the enterprise business processes that are performed in real time into mobile devices of employees. in addition to exposing the platform modules, this article presents the implementation of a prototype to validate the proposed architecture, and a practical study case of a sales process, which explains the platform operation.
Se describen, para cada una de ellas, sus indicaciones, contraindicaciones, técnica de realización e interpretación de los resultados LFTs contribute to the diagnosis of respiratory disease, determining the type of physiological defect, e.g. obstructive, restrictive, bronchial hyperreactivity and the variation in the airways. LFTs most used in children older than 5 years are spirometry, flow-volume curve, bronchial reaction to exercise and metacholine and peak flow. The objective of this paper was to unify the criteria for the practice and interpretation of these tests by a group of 18 specialists from different medical centers where LFTs are performed in children in Chile. We describe for each one the indications, contraindications, the procedure and interpretation of results
