Revista Brasileira de Saúde e Produ??o Animal , 2008,
Abstract: In this trial, four feeding strategies to growing goats were compared and adult goat females performance were evaluated. Four feeding strategies were studied,, three roughage sources (White cassava hay, Leucena hay and Gliricidia hay), in a total mixed ration (70% concentrate and 30% roughage, in dry matter basis), and control-caatinga treatment, in which mothers were accompanied during all the day. The others animals were milked during night. 44 animals, 24 males and 20 females were used and distributed in four groups of 11 animals, three groups in collective pens, while the fourth was kept with the adult goats. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 11 replications. Rations with White cassava or Leucena hay increased growing kids daily weight gain and total weight gain (P<0.05). In adult females, the different feeding strategies did not influence (P>0.05) the performance and body condition score. Hence, White cassava and Leucena hay are important roughage sources to be included in high concentrate proportion ration given to growing kids.

Abstract: The use of native or cultivated crops in semi-arid region, such as the wild cassava, sorghum and cassava, can reduce costs, increase productivity and competitiveness of the production systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of three energy sources as a supplement of a wild cassava silage meal over the productive performance and carcass characteristics of growing goats. The experimental treatments were supplementation sources: cassava meal, cassava meal in association to wheat bran and sorghum middling and cassava meal in association to sorghum grain. Eighteen male goats with 14.06±3.61 kg of initial body weight were allocated into three groups in collective pens. The experimental design was a completely randomized with six replications by treatments. The supplementations were not affect the daily weight gain, total weight gain, body condition score, carcass characteristics (cold and hot carcass weight and dressing), carcass measurements (carcass length and depth and leg width, depth and length) and commercial meat cuts yields (leg, shoulder, rib, briscket and neck) . The cassava meal, in ration containing wild cassava silage with relations of 80% roughage and 20% concentrate, may substitute the grain of sorghum and the wheat bran.

Abstract: This work aimed to evaluate social, technological levels, and economic results of dairy cattle producers on properties located in the Senator Nilo Coelho Irrigation District, located in the city of Petrolina, Pernambuco State. Twenty-eight producers were interviewed in the period from April to September of 2007. The families of the milk producers the Senator Nilo Coelho Irrigation District living in rural and urban areas amounted to 53,6 e 46,4% respectively. Rural properties were mostly classified as intensive systems (57,1%) with an average production of 9,3 L/lactating cow/day. Gross income from milk was R$ 2.477,47. The ratio between lactating cows and the total number of cows and calving interval were respectively 52.1% and 19,1 months. It was observed that most properties worked with natural mating (96,4%) and manual milking (96,4%). In general vaccination is deficient, however 96,4% of farms vaccinated against Food and Month Disease. Information main source from these producers is television. Regarding the feeding management, it was observed a high dependence on external inputs and the average land productivity and the number of milking cows per area were 3722,0L/ha/year and 1,1 cows/ha, respectively. Dairy cattle have a potential to supplement the producers income, but investments are needed to intensify the use of forage resources, to improve milk quality, reproductive management, nutrition and health herd and technical assistance to producers.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the dry and fresh matter yield, height of ear insertion, number of ears per plant, plant height and the ear stem-1 leaf-1 ratio of six maize varieties recommended for the Brazilian semi-arid region (BR 5033 - Asa Branca, BR 5028 - S o Francisco, BRS 4103, BRS Caatingueiro, BRS Assum Preto and Gurutuba) aiming at silage production. The experiment was carried out at Embrapa Semi-Arid, in a completely randomized design with six treatments and four replications. The varieties Gurutuba and BRS 4103 achieved the highest yields of fresh forage (38.7 and 40.0 t ha-1). These two varieties and BR 5028 - S o Francisco showed the highest dry matter yield (16.0, 16.5 and 15.8 t ha-1, respectively). However, the variety BRS Caatingueiro presented a higher number of ears per plant (1.6) than those of the other varieties. Among the materials evaluated for silage production in the Submédio S o Francisco river Valley, Gurutuba, BR 5028 - S o Francisco and BRS 4103 stood out. The results obtained for dry matter production (t ha-1) and number of earsper plant, as well as the ear stem-1 leaf-1 ratio, indicate the possibility of using the evaluated varieties for silage production in the Brazilian

dos Santos,Rafael José;
Estudios y perspectivas en turismo , 2005,
Abstract: based on ethnography of an artisan fishing community in laguna, sc, this paper interprets the tourism destination as a culturally constructed environment. it reflects the twofold impact of visitors and native practices -simultaneously social and symbolic- mediated by modern imaginary representations which include those that constitute a web of fictional genres transmitted by the mass media. by emphasising the symbolic dimension that is the formative role of language and signs it moves to a critique of substantive approaches toward tourists and tourism, as well as of the underlying utilitarian assumptions concerning the attractiveness of nature or culture.

Santos, Rafael José dos
PASOS : Revista de Turismo y Patrimonio Cultural , 2004,
Abstract: This essay aims to a reflection on the transformations in the relations between culture and consumption, from the earlier Veblens' writings though the dawn of a globalized culture. Such changes are analyzed from the point of view of changes in capitalist economy, which results in a global configuration. One emphasizes consumption as a social distinction practice, which legitimacy standards come into a crisis as new globalized practices come to scene. This takes to a new articulation of symbolic strategies of social differentiation. Among these new strategies one emphasizes a new modality of cultural competence: the informational competence, related to the domain of new technologies
