A possess?o como prática: esbo?o de uma reflex?o fenomenológica
Rabelo, Miriam;
Mana , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132008000100004
Abstract: the idea that possession should be treated as a modality of practice has been found in a variety of forms in the works of a number of contemporary anthropologists. this article discusses a series of theoretical points central to understanding possession as practice: the questions of agency, the relations between body and meaning, and temporality. pursuing a phenomenological approach, i attempt to show that any adequate treatment of these three questions requires that we attend to the temporal constitution of practice (in this case, possession). more specifically, i argue that failing to include temporality as a factor may seriously distort our analysis of possession. this thesis is developed through an examination of three case histories of possession in candomblé cults in salvador, bahia.

Abstract: this paper analyzes the importance of research narrative to investigate day-to-day education. it describes the relevance of such research as a contribution to linking theory and practice, the social and the individual. after highlighting the characteristics of this kind of research, it distinguishes between two forms (narrative and paradigmatic) of cognition and, thus, two forms of analysis within narrative research. it then describes both, pointing out their positive and negative sides to shows that they can be complementary (non-dichotomous) and have much to contribute to educational research. finally, to bypass the doubts that mark any investigation, all the issues, including practices, must be considered and the care in search of narrative bases to investigate education must be intensified.

Rabelo, Miriam C. M.;
Religi?o & Sociedade , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-85872008000100009
Abstract: this paper analyses trajectories of socialization in the candomblé of members of salvador's lower classes. firstly, it discusses the ways by which primary socialization within the family articulates with religious socialization. then it turns to the question of understanding how relations with different classes of sacred entities may thicken or extend certain lines of relationship within the extended family. analysis of the trajectories points to the significance of the neighborhood (bairro) as a main space of sociability for the urban poor. it indicates that informal relations with entities often precede the establishment of formal bonds with candomblé houses, developing itself in the everyday space of the family and the bairro before being formalized in the religious institution.
