Autonomous Inspection Robot for Power Transmission Lines Maintenance While Operating on the Overhead Ground Wires

Abstract: This paper describes the development of a mobile robot capable of clearing such obstacles as counterweights, anchor clamps, and torsion tower. The mobile robot walks on overhead ground wires in 500KV power tower. Its ultimate purpose is to automate to inspect the defect of power transmission line. The robot with 13 motors is composed of two arms, two wheels, two claws, two wrists, etc. Each arm has 4 degree of freedom. Claws are also mounted on the arms. An embedded computer based on PC/104 is chosen as the core of control system. Visible light and thermal infrared cameras are installed to obtain the video and temperature information, and the communication system is based on wireless LAN TCP/IP protocol. A prototype robot was developed with careful considerations of mobility. The new sensor configuration is used for the claw to grasp the overhead ground wires. The bridge is installed in the torsion tower for the robot easy to cross obstacles. The new posture plan is proposed for obstacles cleaning in the torsion tower. Results of experiments demonstrate that the robot can be applied to execute the navigation and inspection tasks.
Leader--Follower Consensus Problems of Multi-agent Systems with Noise Perturbation and Time Delays

Abstract: In light of the stability theory for stochastic differential delay equations, the leader--followerconsensus problem with noise perturbation and communication time delays is investigated. Communication among agents is modelled as a weighted directed graph and the weights are stochastically perturbed with white noise. It is analytically proven that the consensus could be achieved almost surely with the perturbation of noise and communication time delays. Furthermore, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results

Abstract: This paper investigates the chaotic synchronization between the noise-perturbed Lorenz system and one of the noise-perturbed Chen and Lü systems. Based on the active control method and the Lyapunov theory in stochastic differential equations, sufficient conditions for the stability of the error dynamics are derived. Numerical simulations are also shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of these theoretic results.

Abstract: In this paper, by using the stability theory of stochastic differential equations, the average-consensus problem with noise perturbation is investigated. It is analytically proved that the consensus could be achieved with a probability of one. Furthermore, numerical examples are taken to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical result.

Abstract: In recent years, stem cell nanotechnology has emerged as a new exciting field. Theoretical and experimental studies of interaction between nanomaterials or nanostructures and stem cells have made great advances. The importance of nanomaterials, nanostructures, and nanotechnology to the fundamental developments in stem cells-based therapies for injuries and degenerative diseases has been recognized. In particular, the effects of structure and properties of nanomaterials on the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells have become a new interdisciplinary frontier in regeneration medicine and material science. Here we review some of the main advances in this field over the past few years, explore the application prospects, and discuss the issues, approaches and challenges, with the aim of improving application of nanotechnology in the stem cells research and development.
Mechanisms of bone anabolism regulated by statins

Abstract: Osteoporosis is a common disease in the elderly population. The progress of this disease results in the reduction of bone mass and can increase the incidence of fractures. Drugs presently used clinically can block the aggravation of this disease. However, these drugs cannot increase the bone mass and may result in certain side effects. Statins, also known as HMG-CoA (3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA) reductase inhibitors, have been widely prescribed for CVD (cardiovascular disease) for decades. Nonetheless, several studies have demonstrated that statins exert bone anabolic effect and may be helpful for the treatment of osteoporosis. Several experiments have analysed the mechanisms of bone anabolism regulated by statins. In the present paper, we review the mechanisms of promoting osteogenesis, suppressing osteoblast apoptosis and inhibiting osteoclastogenesis.

Abstract: The cyclic behaviours of two prestrained materials with different slip modes have been com- pared.From the analysis of hysterisis loops,it is suggested that the decrease in back stress dominates the cyclic process of Cu-Zn alloy with planar slip mode,while the decrease in frictional stress is the main factor affecting the behaviour of Cu with wavy slip mode.The re- lation between the dislocation configuration and internal stress has been also discussed.By means of the relation just mentioned,the variations of dislocation configuration before and after fatigue of the two materials,the differences in their softening mechanism and mechani- cal behaviour could be interpreted.

Abstract:

This paper considers a new canonical duality theory for solving mixed integer quadratic programming problem. It shows that this well-known NP-hard problem can be converted into concave maximization dual problems without duality gap. And the dual problems can be solved, under certain conditions, by polynomial algorithms.

The Internal Structure of Sha-henda: A Morphological Perspective  [PDF]

Abstract: Sha-henda (殺很大) “kill-very-big” which is coined from an advertisement of an on-line game has been being recently very popular in Taiwan society. With the effect of this slogan, people tends to analogize more and more new expressions, for example: sheng-henda (省很大) “save-very-big”, shui-henda (睡很大) “sleep-very-big”, and etc. Until 2013, the quantity of the coined expressions is still increasing. In the previous studies of Shen (2009), Xiao (2009), Liu (2010) and Liu (2012) on the structure of X-henda (X-很大), the structure is highly productive, involves an extreme or exaggerative meaning, is featured of rising tone, stress, and lengthening, and is initiated with a verb or an adjective. This present study argues henda in X-henda is a bound form (or a particle (助詞); Chao, 1979), similar to qilai (起來) in X-qilai or bude (不得) in X-bude, especially without objects or objects-preceding. With Distributed Morphology, a derivational analysis of the X-henda structure indicates that the function of henda intensifies the effect of sha to the extreme degree with rising tone, stress and lengthening to perform exaggeration on the object (in a sentence). The results may further contribute to grammaticalization analyses, verb-complement structure analyses and Chinese language teaching.
