Effect of Surfactant HLB Value on Settlement Stability of Magnetorheological Fluid  [PDF]

Abstract:
The hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance (HLB) of surfactants has a great influ-ence on surfactants. Among them, polyethylene glycol has an HLB value of 20 and is highly hydrophilic; oleic acid has an HLB value of 1, which is very lipophilic; and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate has an HLB value of 10.6 be-tween the two. This paper explores the use of these three surfactants with typi-cal HLB values to improve the performance of magnetorheological fluids, mainly to study its effect on the stability of magnetorheological fluids. Tests have shown that the use of lipophilic surfactants in oil-based magnetorheologi-cal fluids has better sedimentation stability than the use of hydrophilic surfac-tants.

Abstract: Polychaete are diverse species of the soft-bottom community, and are often used as indicators in environment monitoring programs. However, the effects of anthropogenic activities and natural environmental variation on polychaete assemblage are rarely addressed. The goals of this study are to identify the effects of natural environmental variation and anthropogenic stress on polychaete assemblage, and to explore the relationship between the polychaete assemblage structure and anthropogenic stress without considering the natural environmental variation. Based on the data collected from the surveys conducted in the tidal flat of Jiaozhou Bay, the relationship between polychaete assemblage structure and environmental variables was determined using multivariate statistical methods including hierarchical cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling(MDS) and canonical correspondence analysis(CCA). The results showed that the polychaete assemblage was dominated by two species, Amphictene japonica and Heteromastus filiformis, and could be divided into two subgroups characterized by high and low species abundance. CCA illustrated that the natural environmental variables including water temperature and the distance from coast had primary effects on the polychaete assemblage structure; while stress of contaminants, such as As and Hg, had the secondary influences; and stress from the aquacultured species, mainly Ruditapes philippinarum, had a limited effect. Colinearity between the natural environmental variables and anthropogenic stress variables caused a critical divergence in the interpretation of CCA results, which highlighted the risk of a lack of information in environment assessment. Glycinde gurjanovae, Sternaspis scutata and Eulalia bilineata may serve as the ‘contamination indicators', which need to be confirmed in future studies

Abstract:

The complexity of large-scale network systems made of a large number of nonlinearly interconnected components is a restrictive facet for their modeling and analysis. In this paper, we propose a framework of hierarchical modeling of a complex network system, based on a recursive unsupervised spectral clustering method. The hierarchical model serves the purpose of facilitating the management of complexity in the analysis of real-world critical infrastructures. We exemplify this by referring to the reliability analysis of the 380 kV Italian Power Transmission Network (IPTN). In this work of analysis, the classical component Importance Measures (IMs) of reliability theory have been extended to render them compatible and applicable to a complex distributed network system. By utilizing these extended IMs, the reliability properties of the IPTN system can be evaluated in the framework of the hierarchical system model, with the aim of providing risk managers with information on the risk/safety significance of system structures and components.

Abstract: A Eu, Dy co-doped SiO2 matrix, white emitting phosphor was prepared by the sol-gel technique. Strong red, green and blue emissions located at 618 nm, 573 nm and 400–550 nm were observed under UV laser excitation at room temperature. Such techniques as FT-IR and TGA-DSC were used to measure the microstructure of the luminescent material. The influence of the preparation techniques on the luminescence property of the Eu, Dy co-doped SiO2 matrix, such as anneal temperature, anneal time, dried atmosphere and the components of the matrix, was systematically studied, and the luminescence mechanism was interpreted. The red emission is the strongest when annealed at 750°C. However, blue emission appears when annealed at 700°C and is the intensest at 900°C. For the samples dried in vacuum, Eu3+ is more easily deoxidized to Eu2+ at lower temperatures, because the samples dried in the air compared with that dried in vacuum need higher temperature to form network structures. Only the SA and SAB matrix annealed at 850°C had blue emission in the four matrices (SA, SAB, SB, S) xerogel and the emission in the SAB matrix was stronger than that in the SA matrix. This may be due to the eutectic phase formed by the oxide boron, alkaline oxide and alumina in the SAB matrix, which constructs network structures and stabilizes the emission center and enhances the blue emission.
The Effect of Pastoralist’s Perception Innovation on Livelihood Improvement: Based on Empirical Analysis in the Source Region of Yellow River, China

Abstract: This paper uses net income per capita, GDP per capita, meat production per capita, and milk production per capita as the proxy indicators to descript the level of pastoralists’ livelihood; and grazing capacity (reflecting wealth perception), slaughter rate of livestock, sold rate of livestock (reflecting commodity perception), and composition of female animals in season and death rate of livestock at mating age (reflecting technological perception) as the proxy indicators for description the perceptions of pastoralists. Author builds a relevance model between pastoralist’s livelihood and perceptions at both single and multi-factor mode level. The results indicate: (1) from the perspective of pastoralist’s livelihood promotion, it is important to emphasize the innovation of conventional commodity idea (resisting slaughter rate of livestock and commercialization), the conventional wealth perception of pastoralists (worship the more livestock possession the wealthier), and establishment advanced management perception (focus on structural adjustment and disaster resisting ability); (2) from the priority perspective of perception innovation, special emphasis should be placed on the controlling the grazing capacity of livestock, and promoting the slaughter and sold rates of livestock; (3) pastoralist’s perceptions severely restrict the improvement of pastoralist’s livelihood. Based on the findings, recommendations for possible interventions, such as strengthening the skill training, shifting the traditional wealth perception of pastoralists, the conventional commodity perception and establishing advanced management perception are made.
Targeting Co-Stimulatory Pathways in Gene Therapy

Abstract: Gene therapy with recombinant viral vectors such as adenovirus and adenovirus-associated virus holds great promise in treating a wide range of diseases because of the high efficiency with which the viruses transfer their genomes into host cells in vivo. However, the activation of the host immune responses remains a major hurdle to successful gene therapy. Studies in the past two decades have elucidated the important role co-stimulation plays in the activation of both T and B cells. This review summarizes our current understanding of T cell co-stimulatory pathways, and strategies targeting these co-stimulatory pathways in gene therapy applications as well as potential future directions.

Abstract: We introduce a Bernoulli operator,let $\mathbf{B}$ denote the operator symbol,for n=0,1,2,3,... let ${\mathbf{B}^n}: = {B_n}$ (where ${B_n}$ are Bernoulli numbers,${B_0} = 1,B{}_1 = 1/2,{B_2} = 1/6,{B_3} = 0$...).We obtain some formulas for Riemann's Zeta function,Euler constant and a number-theoretic function relate to Bernoulli operator.For example,we show that \[{\mathbf{B}^{1 - s}} = \zeta (s)(s - 1),\] \[\gamma = - \log \mathbf{B},\]where ${\gamma}$ is Euler constant.Moreover,we obtain an analogue of the Riemann Hypothesis (All zeros of the function $\xi (\mathbf{B} + s)$ lie on the imaginary axis).This hypothesis can be generalized to Dirichlet L-functions,Dedekind Zeta function,etc.In particular,we obtain an analogue of Hardy's theorem(The function $\xi (\mathbf{B} + s)$ has infinitely many zeros on the imaginary axis). \par In addition,we obtain a functional equation of $\log \Pi (\mathbf{B}s)$ and a functional equation of $\log \zeta (\mathbf{B} + s)$ by using Bernoulli operator.
Derived equivalences in n-angulated categories

Abstract: In this paper, we consider $n$-perforated Yoneda algebras for $n$-angulated categories, and show that, under some conditions, $n$-angles induce derived equivalences between the quotient algebras of $n$-perforated Yoneda algebras. This result generalizes some results of Hu, K\"{o}nig and Xi. And it also establishes a connection between higher cluster theory and derived equivalences. Namely, in a cluster tilting subcategory of a triangulated category, an Auslander-Reiten $n$-angle implies a derived equivalence between two quotient algebras. This result can be compared with the fact that an Auslander-Reiten sequence suggests a derived equivalence between two algebras which was proved by Hu and Xi.
Derived equivalences between matrix subrings and their applications

Abstract: In this paper, we construct derived equivalences between matrix subrings. As applications, we calculate the global dimensions and the finitistic dimensions of some matrix subrings. And we show that the finitistic dimension conjecture holds for a class of Harada algebras and a class of tiled triangular algebras.
