La escogencia estratégica y su aplicación en la formulación de planes para el manejo de residuos sólidos municipales. Caso de estudio: Municipio Libertador - Distrito Capital
Revista de la Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad Central de Venezuela , 2006,
Abstract: in venezuela for several decades, graduate school town planning students have focused on urban problem studies, simulation models and plans to ?solve? problems. in most venezuelan cities, urban planning has often not been implemented. even worse, curricula have underestimated methods for structuring problems and for making decisions under pressure and with little data. however, over the last decade, some professors have introduced workshops on the strategic choice approach of j. friend and a. hickling (2002) in the master?s course in town planning policies and local action at the instituto de urbanismo of the universidad central de venezuela. the aim is to allow students to make proposals for the immediate improvement of downtown zones in caracas as there is not enough time to make and approve ?plans?. this case study, the solid waste management in downtown caracas, results from work carried out with professors and students for the libertador municipality. this experience allowed us to make immediate proposals for the decision takers in a short period of time, jointly with the agencies involved in the problems, as well as to identify mid-term studies.
Sustainable and Economic Alternative for the Electric Supply of Isolated Communities in the Brazilian Off-Grid Systems  [PDF]
Rebeca Doctors, Rafael Kelman
Journal of Power and Energy Engineering (JPEE) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jpee.2017.59012
Abstract: Roughly 99% of the demand for electricity in Brazil is supplied by a national interconnected grid. The remaining 1% is spread in several “isolated systems” of the Amazon region—mini-grids that rely on expensive diesel gensets due to high commodity and transportation costs. The isolated systems also have remote communities disconnected altogether from the mini-grids with inadequate health, education and leisure services. These communities are precariously supplied by small inefficient diesel gensets that run for a few hours per day. In this article, we propose a sustainable and economic alternative for the electric supply of the remote communities of isolated systems through a combination of photovoltaic solar generation and storage. The objective is to improve access to electricity with savings for the communities. The present paper outlines a public policy to meet this objective.
Teen Pregnancy in Durango Mexico: A Cultural Perspective  [PDF]
Rebeca Trevi?o-Montemayor
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2018.910136
Abstract: The present research attempts to draw an in-depth understanding of adolescents’ conceptualizations of romantic and gender relationships, which attempted to understand how stereotyped behavior impacts on young girls’ pregnancy decisions. It is a qualitative study that considers own adolescents’ view of marriage and motherhood as an important part of their future life. Qualitative methodology and ethnographic and hermeneutic tools were used to enlighten hidden elements from which statistics and quantitative studies do not show concerning teenage pregnancy, a very important problem in the North West Region of Mexico, particularly in Durango. A comprehensive analysis listening to adolescents themselves can help to reduce adolescent’s fertility and pregnancy rates. Sexual education is officially included in Mexican basic schools; however, it has focused in biological and hygiene issues; the study highlighted the important needs girls and boys have to know about sexual and romantic interaction as a very basic part of sexual education. It was not only about instructing in the use of contraceptive methods but in a real and effective education understanding the cultural context where early pregnancy happens.

Adiabatic Flame Temperature for Combustion of Methane
Rebeca Pupo
Undergraduate Journal of Mathematical Modeling : One + Two , 2011, DOI: 10.5038/2326-3652.3.2.6
Abstract: This project calculated the adiabatic flame temperature of a combustion reaction of pure methane and oxygen, assuming that all of the heat liberated by the combustion reaction goes into heating the resulting mixture. Mole fractions of methane to oxygen were computed from 0.05 to 0.95, in increments of 0.05, and then an integral was computed was computed with respect to temperature using the moles of product produced or leftover moles of reactants from the starting mole fraction times the specific heat of each respective gas. The highest adiabatic flame temperature evaluated, occurred at a mole fraction of 0.35.
