LUCUMI-ARAGóN,DIANA; GONZáLEZ O.,RANULFO; SALAS-QUINCHUCUA,CRISTHIAN;
Revista Colombiana de Entomología , 2011,
Abstract: anopheles calderoni has been recently registered in colombia and apparently many bionomic aspects of an. punctimacula correspond to this species, to clarify this confusion is essential to develop prevention and control programs of malaria vectors, for that reason this paper evaluates its biting activity at three stations in two localities of valle del cauca, one in el oto?o (candelaria) and two in laguna de sonso (buga), 312 collecting hours were carried out with protected human bait in periods of 12 hours (18:00 to 06:00), 5.831 specimens were collected, 334 at el oto?o, 864 and 4.633 at laguna de sonso stations respectively. the biting rate per human per night (iphn), the biting rate per human per hour (iphh) and peak hours of biting activity varied among stations and sampling sites apparently related to the proximity of sampling stations to the breeding sites or to the availability and productivity of local breeding sites. the iphn ranged from 26.5 to 78.5 (c=55.7) in el oto?o, and between 16.5 and 157.0 (c=65.8) and between 246.0 and 1265,5 (c=661.9) in the station one and two respectively. in conclusion, at both localities the species showed unimodal and bimodal behavior depending on the densities and being heterogeneous between nights, which suggest a plasticity feature on its hematophagous behavior.
GONZáLEZ OBANDO,RANULFO; GAMBOA,FEDERICO; PERAFáN,ORLANDO; SUáREZ,MARCO FIDEL; MONTOYA LERMA,JAMES;
Revista Colombiana de Entomología , 2007,
Abstract: larval sampling was carried out to evaluate the presence and population relationship between the vector of dengue, aedes aegypti and culex quinquefasciatus, vector of west nile virus, in 537 sinks, located in 19 “comunas” (quarter associations) of the six silos (i.e. local health systems) of the city of cali, colombia. the mean positivity index (is) for the sinks was 57.2% and 73.6% for each species, respectively. although it was only a tendency, these values varied according to city social strata, and in all of the areas evaluated it was established that each species had a highly significant positive population correlation. in evaluating the relative importance of the city sinks in the production of a. aegypti, it was established that those breeding sites are equally or more important than intra or peridomiciliar breeding sites. the analysis of houses in 10 city blocks, including 62 street sinks in the nearby vicinity, revealed that intradomiciliar settings do not produce pupae. assuming a constant adult survival rate of 0.80 per day, the number of females per block estimated for the sinks was greater than peridomiciliar breeding sites. for the street sinks, absolute density varied between 45 and 555 ( 200 female/block), while in the peridomiciliar settings it was only 0 and 69 ( 22 female/block).
