Gastroprotective Effect of Rubia cordifolia Linn. on Aspirin Plus Pylorus-Ligated Ulcer

Abstract: The present study was designed to investigate the effect of Rubia cordifolia (Rubiaceae) against experimentally induced gastric ulcer and compare activity with its fractions by employing aspirin plus pylorus-ligated ulcer screening model in Wistar rats. Total acidity, volume of gastric acid secretion, total acid output, and pepsin activity show significant reduction, when compared with the control group. The present study confirmed that chloroform fraction showed the significant activity at lower doses compared to parent extract. The mechanism can be attributed to decrease in gastric acid secretary activity along with strengthening of mucosal defensive mechanism by prostaglandin synthesis and antioxidant potential.

Abstract: Paracetamol, Diclofenac, Aceclofenac, Nimesulide, Ibuprofen and Rofecoxib belonging to the class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID′s) were tested for inhibitory role on nitrite-induced oxidation of hemoglobin in vitro. Result indicates a promising inhibitory role of aceclofenac and significant inhibitory role of ibuprofen in a concentration range of 0.25 mM each. Pro-oxidant activity was higher for remaining test compounds viz., Diclofenac, Paracetamol, Rofecoxib and Nimesulide.

Abstract: Apigenin-7-glucoside, C21H20O10 (7-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-5-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one), was first time isolated from the roots of Clerodendrum serratum (L.) Moon, Lamiaceae. Structure elucidation of the compound was carried out by 1H NMR and FAB-MS studies. Apigenin-7-glucosídeo, C21H20O10 (7-(β-D-glucopiranosiloxi)-5-hidroxi-2-(4-hidroxifenil)-4H-1-benzopiran-4-ona), foi isolado pela primeira vez das raízes de Clerodendrum serratum (L.) Moon, Lamiaceae. A elucida o estrutural da susbtancia foi feita através de estudos de 1H NMR e FAB-MS.

Abstract: The present review is an attempt to highlight the various ethno botanical and traditional uses as well as phytochemical and pharmacological reports on Mimusops elengi to which commonly known as Bakul and Spanish cherry, belonging to Sapotaceae family. It is a large ornamental evergreen tree cultivated in India and generally reared in gardens for the sake of its fragrant flowers. In the traditional Indian system of medicine, the ayurveda and in various folk system of medicine, the bark, fruit and seeds of Mimusops elengi possess several medicinal properties such as astringent, tonic, and febrifuge. Chemical studies have shown that, Bark contain tannin, some caoutchoue, wax, starch and ash and Flower contain volatile oil as well as Seeds contain fixed fatty oil. Preclinical studies have shown that Mimusops elengi or some part of its phytochemicals possess Analgesic, Antibiotic, Antihyperlipidemic, Anti-inflammatory, Antimicrobial, Antoxidant, Antipyretic, Cytotoxic, Congestive enhancing, Gingival bleeding, Gastic ulcer, Hypotensive activity

Abstract: Medicinal plants are nature′s gift to human beings to make disease free healthy life, and play a vital role to preserve our health. They are believed to be much safer and proven elixir in the treatment of various ailments. Pharmacognostic studies of crude drug plays a very important role in identification, purity and quality of crude drugs. The Mimusops elengi Linn.commonly known Spanish cherry, belonging to Sapotaceae family. It is a large ornamental evergreen tree cultivated in India and generally reared in gardens for the sake of its fragrant flowers. The bark, fruit and seeds of Mimusops elengi possess several medicinal properties such as astringent, tonic, and febrifuge. Chemical studies have shown that, Bark contain tannin, triterpenoids and flower contain volatile oil as well as seeds contain fixed fatty oil. Through this review, the authors hope to attract the attention of natural product researchers throughout the world to focus on pharmacognostic standards of Mimusops elengi Linn. and it may be useful in developing new standards for Mimusops elengi.
Economic Dispatch with Multiple Fuel Options Using CCF  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents an efficient analytical approach using Composite Cost Function (CCF) for solving the Economic Dispatch problem with Multiple Fuel Options (EDMFO). The solution methodology comprises two stages. Firstly, the CCF of the plant is developed and the most economical fuel of each set can be easily identified for any load demand. In the next stage, for the selected fuels, CCF is evaluated and the optimal scheduling is obtained. The Proposed Method (PM) has been tested on the standard ten-generation set system; each set consists of two or three fuel options. The total fuel cost obtained by the PM is compared with earlier reports in order to validate its effectiveness. The comparison clears that this approach is a promising alterna-tive for solving EDMFO problems in practical power system.
Design of Multilingual Speech Synthesis System  [PDF]

Abstract: The main objective of this paper is to convert the written multilingual text into machine generated synthetic speech. This paper is proposed in order to provide a complete multilingual speech synthesizer for three languages Indian English, Tamil and Telugu. The main application of TTS system is that it will be helpful for blind and mute people that they could have the text read to them by computer. TTS system will help in retrieving the information from sites that contain information in different languages. It can be used in educational institutions for pronunciation teaching of different languages. We use concatenative speech syn-thesis where the segments of recorded speech are concatenated to produce the desired output. We apply prosody which makes the synthesized speech sound more like human speech. Smoothing is also done to smooth the transition between segments in order to produce continuous output. The Optimal Coupling algorithm is enhanced to improve the performance of speech synthesis system.
PCRR Based Bandpass Filter for C and L+U Bands of ITU-T G.694.2 CWDM Systems  [PDF]

Abstract: A two Dimensional (2D) Photonic Crystal Ring Resonator (PCRR) based Bandpass Filter (BPF) is designed to cover C and L+U bands of Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) systems. It is devised with two quasi waveguides and a circular PCRR. The simulation results are obtained using 2D Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method. The Photonic Band Gap (PBG) is calculated by Plane Wave Expansion (PWE) method. The BPFs allow the entire C-band (BPF1) and L+U bands (BPF2), which are extended from 1530 to 1565 nm (C band) and 1565 to 1675 nm (L+U bands). The computed bandwidth of BPF1 and BPF2 is 32 nm and 97 nm respectively. The size of the device is minimized from a scale of few tens of millimeters to the order of micrometers. The overall size of the BPF1 is around 12.8 µm × 11.4 µm and 11.4 µm × 11.4 µm for BPF2.

Abstract: Mobility is one of the major new paradigms of the current Internet, and this is driving most of the research activity in networking throughout the World. The Mobility of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has become a hot research theme in recent years due to its wide range of applications ranging from medical research to military. The widely adopted standard for wireless sensor network platform is IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee. The IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee is considered the “technology of choice” due to low-power, cost-effective communication and the reliability they provide. In this paper, we perform extensive network evaluation, to study the Effect of coordinator mobility on ZigBee mesh network, using OPNET Modeler. In mobile coordinator, the type of the trajectory along with the node density and the traffic are the major factors that decide the system performance. The results obtained from the wide analysis of ZigBee mesh network shows variation when the routers are placed at Hexagonal configuration with a mobile coordinator. In this paper, variations in load metric is analyzed in hexagonal configuration by enabling and disabling ACK. Thus the status of ACK also plays a critical role in analysing load metrics.
