Design of AXI-PCIE Interface for Industrial Ethernet Applications

Abstract: The tremendous growth of Ethernet in the field of communication networks has enabled various applications in industries with greater performance and accuracy. Ethernet’s consistency and integrated communication capabilities are used in various industrial applications where timing is of a major concern. In spite of these ubiquitous trends of Ethernet, Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) and combinational mechanisms are some of the contradictory mechanisms in real time industrial applications. Although it plays a vital role in avoiding collisions between different environments, it uses more of the critical time in processing, which is non-affordable in real time scenarios. Hence, the need for an Industrial Ethernet that employs the traditional features of Ethernet with real time capabilities is very much in demand. In this study, an Industrial Ethernet module-soft Intellectual Property (IP) core design is proposed, it meets the various specifications of Ethernet with the time specific features for real time applications.
Vlsi Implementation of Edge Detection for Images

Abstract: Edge is the boundary between the image and its background. Edge detection in general is defined as the local maxima obtained from high pass filters, but an optimized edge detector should mark the edges with respect to luminance or brightness changes. It is easy to obtain them in software implementation but for hardware implementation there is an issue with percentage of accuracy and processing time. This study discusses various edge detection algorithms and proposes an optimized edge detector which provides the solution for mentioned above issue. Since FPGA provides practical solutions for most of the image processing problems, the proposed architecture has been developed using Matlab System generator. Experimental results show the accuracy of edge detected using proposed architecture.
Design of Multiple Master ASIC Interconnect

Abstract: System on Chip is composed of many Intellectual Property (IP) blocks which communicate with each other using different bus protocols. Each IP may have different native protocol. So establishing communication between these bus protocols which vary from one IP to another is of much significance. The protocols used may be either proprietary or non-proprietary. AXI 1.0 and OCP 2.0 protocols and are used to build our ASIC interconnect system. Here we establish communication between these two protocols using an AXI to OCP converter. This converter acts as a bridge between the two protocols clearing the incompatibilities for communication. We also use a clock bridge to enhance communication between IP blocks that operate at different frequencies. The numbers of masters, slaves, address and data widths are also configurable depending on the requirement. The AXI master, AXI to OCP converter, Clock Bridge, OCP master, OCP slaves, arbiter and address decoder are designed using VHDL and synthesized.
FPGA Implementation of Physical Layer of Cognitive Radio

Abstract: Applications using high data rate drives the need of spectrally efficient and high-throughput broadband systems. Cognitive radio is the persuasive solution to the spectral crowding problem that allows wireless networks to sense the surroundings, adjust and learn from previous knowledge to obtain better communication. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is adapted as the best transmission method for current and future wireless communication systems. Spectrum sensing helps in identifying underutilized band to provide better spectral resolution. The efficiency of the cognitive radio relies on the speed and accuracy of spectrum sensing. The ultimate aim of an OFDM-Cognitive radio is to improve utilization of spectrum and to provide consistent communication for all users in a cost-effective manner. In this study, spectrum sensing unit is designed and the architecture for OFDM based transmitter is developed and implemented in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), family Virtex 5, device XC5VLX50.
VLSI Based Combined Multiplier Architecture

Abstract: In this study, an efficient design of multiplier is been designed. Since multipliers are the basic component in most of the electronic devices. A combination of multiplier is proposed based on the certain parameters in which VLSI design should concentrates, such as area, speed and power. This combination of multipliers is composed of two parts one is carry save array multiplier which concentrates in power dissipation by skipping the blocks when it is not needed. The second part is modified Booth Wallace tree multiplier which concentrates in the speed of the multiplier. This combination is found to produce better results in power and speed parameters resulting in an efficient multiplier design.
Performance Analysis of NoC Architectures

Abstract: Network-on-chip (NoC) architecture grants the communication frame work for SoC design .The Performance dominating factors of NoC are architecture, node’s size, and the routing algorithm. Various routing algorithms are proposed for the router design in Network on chip(NoC).According to the requirements of NoC application, analysis and simulations for various routing algorithms, such as Crouting,ADBR and adaptive congestion aware routing algorithm are considered for this work. The simulation results shows that Congestion aware adaptive routing algorithm has better performance than others. Here, the new adaptive routing algorithm by merging the features of ADBR and adaptive congestion aware routing algorithm has been discussed.
Review Article: An Overview of Image Compression Techniques

Abstract: To store an image, large quantities of digital data are required. Due to limited bandwidth, image must be compressed before transmission. However, image compression reduces the image fidelity, when an image is compressed at low bitrates. Hence, the compressed images suffer from block artifacts. To meet this, several compression schemes have been developed in image processing. This study presents an overview of compression techniques for image applications. It covers the lossy and lossless compression algorithm used for still image and other applications. The focus of this article is based on the overview of VLSI DCT architecture for image compression. Further, this new approach may provide better results.

Abstract: Template matching is one of the areas of profound interests in recent times. It has turned out to be a revolution in the field of computer vision. Template matching provides a new dimension into the imageprocessing capabilities, although there have been many attempts to resolve different issues in this field there have always been newer concepts emerging in this ever challenging field. In this study, various techniques are discussed and a new FPGA based spectral architecture is proposed to achieve a fast similarity measure between template and input image.
Sub-band Based DCT for Image Compression

Abstract: Uncompressed multimedia such as data, image, audio and video requires transmission bandwidth and storage capacity. Due to demand for data storage capacity and data transmission bandwidth, Image compression is used which provides data security, reduces the storage requirements, provides rich quality signals for visual data representation and reduces the image fidelity. The focus of this study is the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Inverse Discrete Cosine Transform (IDCT) based on the sub-band decomposition for image compression. The simulated results are shown that sub-band decomposition based DCT provides good compression rate and better peak signal to noise ratio than conventional DCT.
Matched Filter Based Spectrum Sensing on Cognitive Radio for OFDM WLANs

Abstract: For the unlicensed users to use the licensed spectrum, unused frequency bands called white spaces need to be detected. Cognitive radio does this task by dynamic spectrum access. This requires intelligent spectrum sensing techniques. In this paper such unused spectrum for OFDM WLAN (IEEE 802.11a) is predicted by exploring the signals presence in minimum time using matched filter based detection incorporating optimal threshold selection, thereby increasing the sensing accuracy andinterference reduction of secondary network.
