Importancia de la Relación Anatómica entre el nervio Isquiático y el Margen Posterior del Acetábulo en la Luxación Posterior de la Cadera Anatomic Value of the Sciatic Nerve with the Posterior Margin of the Acetabulum in Posterior Dislocation of the Hip

Abstract: La luxación posterior de la articulación de la cadera es un trauma que puede sufrir una buena parte de la población, donde se puede comprometer el nervio isquiático, produciendo serios problemas en la vida del individuo afectado. El conocimiento de la relación anatómica entre el nervio isquiático y el margen posterior del acetábulo propiciará um diagnóstico preciso y precoz de esta lesión. Con el objetivo de estudiar la relación topográfica del nervio isquiático con el margen posterior del acetábulo y entregar antecedentes anatómicos para las cirugías ortopédicas en caso de luxaciones posteriores de la cadera, se estudiaron 40 miembros inferiores formolizados, de cadáveres humanos, adultos y de ambos sexos, localizados en los laboratorios de anatomía topográfica de la Universidad Estadual de Ciencias de la Salud de Alagoas, Brasil. En 19 miembros inferiores (47,7%) el nervio isquiático pasó directamente sobre el margen posterior del acetábulo y en los 21 restantes (53,3%), el nervio estuvo distante del margen mencionado, distancia que varió de 6 a 49 mm. Los resultados obtenidos muestran la estrecha relación entre el nervio isquiático y el margen acetabular, lo que acrecienta la posibilidad de lesión del nervio em los casos de luxación posterior de la cadera. The posterior dislocation of the hip joint is a trauma that can undergo a large part of the population, which may compromise the sciatic nerve, causing serious problems in the life of the affected individual. Knowledge of the anatomical relationship between the sciatic nerve and the posterior margin of the acetabulum will facilitate accurate diagnosis and early um this injury. In order to study the topographical relationship of the sciatic nerve with the posterior margin of the acetabulum and provide background for orthopedic anatomical in posterior dislocations of the hip were studied 40 lower limbs formolized human cadavers, adults of both sexes , located in the topographical anatomy laboratories of the Universidade Estadual de Ciencias da Saude, Alagoas, Brasil. In 19 limbs (47.7%) sciatic nerve passed directly over the posterior margin of the acetabulum and the remaining 21 (53.3%), the nerve passed distal to the acetabular margin, distance ranging from 6-49 mm. The results show the close relationship between the sciatic nerve and the acetabular margin, which increases the possibility of nerve injury in posterior dislocation of the hip.

Abstract: nowadays there is great progress in industrial scale production of high-temperature superconducting bi-2223/ag tapes, in order to improve high electrical current transport. the necessity to produce textured high-quality pieces (in tape or bulk formats) demands research directed to production of that phase from molten state. in this article we present a study on routes to bi-2223/ag processing that use decomposition followed by recrystallization of that phase. such routes can lead to the increase of density and the improvement of the microstructure of the ceramic nucleus in bi-2223/ag tapes. the present results suggest that such decomposition procedure is highly dependent on the phase equilibrium bi-2223/ag + molten material and that new experiments are needed to optimize the recrystalization procedure and the bi-2223/ag solidified volume fraction in the products.

Abstract: myeloproliferative disorders are clonal hematopoietic diseases that are characterized by the amplification of one or more myeloid lineages. polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, idiopathic myelofibrosis and chronic myeloid leukemia are considered classic myeloproliferative disorders and share common clinical and biological features. while the genetic basis of chronic myeloid leukemia is shown to be the constitutive active protein bcr-abl, the main molecular lesions in polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia and idiopathic myelofibrosis remain unknown. this review focuses on the recent discovery of the jak2 v617f mutation, its relationship to the myeloproliferative phenotype and implications in the clinical approach of patients.
Coherent regimes of mutually coupled Chua's circuits

Abstract: We study the dynamical regimes that emerge from the strongly coupling between two Chua's circuits with parameters mismatch. For the region around the perfect synchronous state we show how to combine parameter diversity and coupling in order to robustly and precisely target a desired regime. This target process allows us to obtain regimes that may lie outside parameter ranges accessible for any isolated circuit. The results are obtained by following a recently developed theoretical technique, the order parameter expansion, and are verified both by numerical simulations and on electronic circuits. The theoretical results indicate that the same predictable change in the collective dynamics can be obtained for large populations of strongly coupled circuits with parameter mismatches.
Simultaneous evaluation of in vivo glucocorticoid sensitivity and expression of glucocorticoid receptor alpha-isoform in rheumatoid arthritis patients

Abstract: objectives: to analyze glucocorticoid (gc) sensitivity using intravenous very low dose dexamethasone suppression test (iv-vld-dst) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (ra) and its correlation with glucocorticoid receptor alpha-isoform (grα) gene expression. methods: we evaluated 20 healthy controls and 32 ra patients with health assessment questionnaire (haq) and disease activity score 28 joints (das) scores and iv-vld-dst and grα expression in mononuclear cells. results: basal cortisol and the percentage of cortisol reduction after iv-vld-dst were lower in ra patients than in controls, whereas grα expression was similar among groups. in the ra group there was an inverse correlation between grα expression and the percentage of cortisol suppression that was not observed in controls. there was a direct relationship between das and grα expression. conclusions: mechanisms involved in gc resistance observed in patients with ra are possibly not at the level of grα gene expression, since it was similar among groups and grα increased with disease activity.
Anti-mitotic activity towards sea urchin eggs of dichloromethane fraction obtained from Allamanda schottii Pohl (Apocynaceae)

Abstract: allamanda (apocynaceae) is a genus of climbing shrubs known for producing compounds with a range of biological activities. previous works have shown the anti-proliferative effect of the ethanolic extract of allamanda schottii on leukemic cells. the present work was conducted to evaluate the effects of dichloromethane fraction, obtained from allamanda schottii, on sea urchin echinometra lucunter eggs, as a multicellular model for evaluating anti-tumor activity. our results show an inhibition of sea urchin development in a dose-dependent manner in the presence of dichloromethane fraction. the ic50 values for first and third cleavage and blastulae stage were 103.7 μg/ml, 33.1 μg/ml and 10.2 μg/ml, respectively. these results also demonstrate the cumulative effect of this fraction on sea urchin embryos. in the present work, the expressive anti-mitotic activity of dichloromethane fraction towards sea urchin eggs, a multicellular model, reinforces the anti-tumor potential of the allamanda schotti.
The radiation environment in a Low Earth Orbit: the case of BeppoSAX

Abstract: Low-inclination, low altitude Earth orbits (LEO) are of increasing importance for astrophysical satellites, due to their low background environment. Here, the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) is the region with the highest amount of radiation. We study the radiation environment in a LEO (500-600 km altitude, 4 degrees inclination) through the particle background measured by the Particle Monitor (PM) experiment onboard the BeppoSAX satellite, between 1996 and 2002. Using time series of particle count rates measured by PM we construct intensity maps and derive SAA passage times and fluences. The low-latitude SAA regions are found to have an intensity strongly decreasing with altitude and dependent on the magnetic rigidity. The SAA extent, westward drift and strength vs altitude is shown.

Abstract: Tetralogy of Fallot is known as the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease and has a prevalence of 10% of all congenital heart diseases. Although many other heart anomalies may coexist, the association of tetralogy of Fallot and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is extremely rare. We report this association in a 15-month-old female, cyanotic since birth, in her first hospital admission for diagnosis and treatment of recurring cyanotic crises. In addition, a review of the literature and of the problems related to the treatment is provided.

Abstract: the fusion method was used to produce pbs quantum dots (qds) embedded in s-doped glass matrix (sio2-na2co3-al2o3-pbo2-b2o3:s). measurements of optical absorption (oa), photoluminescence (pl) and atomic force microscopy (afm) have been carried out in order to characterize the produced qds. a strong red-shift observed in the optical features with an increase of the annealing time indicates an increase in qd-size. the qd sizes predicted by k.p theoretical results were confirmed by afm observation.
