Detailed and exhaustive study of the authentication of European virgin olive oils by SEXIA expert system
Aparicio, R.,Alonso, V.,Morales, M. T.
Grasas y Aceites , 1994,
Abstract: The authentication of extra virgin olive oils from different regions of Spain, Italy and Portugal, by means of their fatty acids, alcohols, sterols, methyl sterols and hydrocarbons content, has been investigated. Multivariate statistical methods and Evidence's Theory were applied. The comparative study shows greater predictive ability using this theory than the traditional statistical methods or expert systems that do not implement the possibility theory. A detailed and exhaustive study of Italian (Tuscany and Basilicata), Portuguese and Spanish virgin olive oils has been made. Geographically coloured maps of the studied regions are shown to strengthen the numerical results.

Good control practices underlined by an on-line fuzzy control database
Aparicio, R.,Calvente, J. J.,Alonso, M. V.,Morales, M. T.
Grasas y Aceites , 1994,
Abstract: In the olive oil trade, control systems that automate extraction processes, cutting production costs and increasing processing capacity without losing quality, are always desirable. The database structure of an on-line fuzzy control of centrifugation systems and the algorithms used to attain the best control conditions are analysed. Good control practices are suggested to obtain virgin olive oil of prime quality. Relationship between the COI test and other sensory profiles by statistical procedures
Aparicio, R.,Alonso, M. V.,Morales, M. T.,Calvente, J. J.
Grasas y Aceites , 1994,
Abstract: Relationships between 139 sensory attributes evaluated on 32 samples of virgin olive oil have been analysed by a statistical sensory wheel that guarantees the objectiveness and prediction of its conclusions concerning the best clusters of attributes: green, bitter-pungent, ripe fruit, fruity, sweet fruit, undesirable attributes and two miscellanies. The procedure allows the sensory notes evaluated for potential consumers of this edible oil from the point of view of its habitual consumers to be understood with special reference to The European Communities Regulation n-2568/91. Five different panels: Spanish, Greek, Italian, Dutch and British, have been used to evaluate the samples. Analysis of the relationships between stimuli perceived by aroma, flavour, smell, mouthfeel and taste together with Linear Sensory Profiles based on Fuzzy Logic are provided. A 3-dimensional plot indicates the usefulness of the proposed procedure in the authentication of different varieties of virgin olive oil. An analysis of the volatile compounds responsible for most of the attributes gives weight to the conclusions. Directions which promise to improve the E.G. Regulation on the sensory quality of olive oil are also given.

Abstract: Several biotypes of the Mexicanc creole pig are in danger of extinction. This study was carried out in order to characterize the Mexican cuino pig. Growth, morphometry and reproductive traits are statistically described analysing the reproductive performance of 12 Cuino sows kept under confinement conditions. Average live weight was monitored at birth and 6 months later (0.86 and 43.84 kg, respectively). Results show that Cuino pigs tend to deposit more backfat than commercial breeds, their growth rhythm was adjusted to a polynomial equation (Y = 1.1138x2 - 4.0804x + 5.1355 R2 = 0.9955); it is slow at the beginning and after 91 days animals showed an accelerated growth. Average daily feed intake increased until pigs were five months old, from 0.403 to 1.930 kg., with an improved polynomial adjustment (Y = 0.2363x2 - 1.3129x + 5.7951 R2 = 0.82). Feed conversion was 4.596 in the first post-weaning month and 5.174 in the last month of fattening at 6 months. Cuino pigs are small, with short snout and a small number of teats. The variation in all the measured morphological variables was low (7.5 to 16.7%), this suggests that their morphology does not vary much. Prolificity of these pigs was low; the average number of pigs born alive was 4.95 with a litter birth weight of 4.35 kg and 4.12 weaned pigs with 16.09 kg at weaning. Present results indicate that the cuino pig has not been genetically improved since the time it has been in Mexico.

Abstract: the electroencephalogram is a technique for the functional exploration of the central nervous system (cns). it is a relatively old technique but even today it continues to be a tool of great assistance to the clinician in diagnosing and treating certain pathologies, such as epilepsy, encephalopathies, alterations to the state of consciousness, cns infections, etc. on the other hand, it is a diagnostic tool whose applications are expanding in combination with other neurophysiological techniques, such as in the field of the study and diagnosis of sleep pathology (polysomnography, multiple sleep latency test...) and in intraoperative monitoring together with somasensory evoked potentials. this article describes the basic techniques of electroencephalography, with special emphasis on its main clinical applications and on future perspectives

Abstract: in this study we identified nutritional beliefs associated with health, the participants were two health departmnet of pedro aguirre cedra located in the metropolitan area. it shows that some of them had been transmitted by the primary and secondary red, which at any rate still valid in the population, meanwhile others beliefs has been created related with actual problems of health (chronic sickness non transmissible), they contract with some in existence 50 years ago that related to health issues, more prevalent in that period( parasitic sickness).it is not possible to generalize, giving the characteristic of the sample
Crotalic Venom Fraction as Promoter of the Transfection Mechanism of a Genic Vaccine (Naked DNA) Against Rabies

Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012,
Abstract: The AL27 crotalic fraction is a lectin recognized by cell receptors and then introduced into the cytoplasm. In the present research a new transfection promoter agent for a non viral expression vector was used, using as a model a plasmid expressing the gene that codifies for the G glycoprotein of the rabies virus. The objective was to evaluate the ability of AL27 to increase the rabies plasmid transfection in in vitro and in vivo conditions. The AL27 fraction was isolated from the venom of Agkistrodon piscivorus by HPLC-RP. AL27 maintained its recognition by sialic acid receptors up to a titer of 64 HU. The pC38 plasmid was selected from a panel of 18 clones constructed by inserting the gene that codifies for glycoprotein G of rabies strain HQIMSS99 into the commercial pCI-neo expression vector. In vitro results showed that pC38, with or without AL27, transfected CHO cells under the calcium-phosphate system and using Confocal Microscopy (CM) increased fluorescence (+++) was observed with the mixture pC38/AL27, than with pC38 alone (++). Flow cytometry (FC) revealed expression percentages of 27.78 and 38.66% for pC38 and pC38/AL27, respectively. The in vivo experiment was performed using three groups of BALB/C mice: group 1 was inoculated with pC38 in the tibial muscle; group 2 with pC38 and AL27 and group 3, negative control, with only PBS. Tissues showed the highest expression by CM (+++) when using pC38/AL27. Antibodies detected ranged from 0.75-1.2 international units (IU) mL 1 for pC38 and from 1.1-1.27 IU mL 1 for pC38/AL27. Results showed that AL27 promoted cell entrance mechanisms, generating a better expression level of the gene that codifies for the G glycoprotein of the rabies virus and consequently enhancing the stimulation of the immune response.
