Abstract: the present work consists of a taxonomic synopsis of the genera of the family lauraceae in the rio de janeiro state, brazil. it was verified the occurrence of about 109 species of 16 genera: aniba aubl., aiouea aubl., beilschmiedia nees, cassytha l., cinnamomum schaeff., cryptocarya r. br., endlicheria nees, licaria aubl., mezilaurus kuntze ex taub., nectandra rol. ex rottb., ocotea aubl., persea mill., phyllostemonodaphne kosterm., pleurothyrium nees, rhodostemonodaphne rohwer & kubitzki, urbanodendron mez. a key was elaborated for identification of genera, and also descriptions and comments on each one of them, with geographical distribution, number of species in brazil and in the rio de janeiro state, and a preliminary list of the species that occur in the state.

Abstract: Este artigo analisa duas esculturas de Aleijadinho, S o Sim o Stock e S o Jo o da Cruz, ambas situadas na igreja da Ordem Terceira de Nossa Senhora do Carmo em Sabará (MG), a partir do conceito de “imagem de devo o” de Giulio Carlo Argan. Estudando o sistema representa o da arte barroca, Argan identifica a imagem de devo o como um gênero de figura o religiosa estritamente derivada das prescri es tridentinas sobre o legítimo uso das imagens. Caracteriza tal imagem a simplicidade formal, o que a distancia muito das demais figura es barrocas. Busca-se, assim, investigar na escultura de Aleijadinho sua filia o àquele principio formal e avaliar sua inser o num projeto maior de coloniza o no qual a divulga o da doutrina católica é parte fundamental. ///// This article analyses two Aleijadinho sculptures, St. Simon Stock and St. John of the Cross, both located in the church of the Third Order of Carmo in Sabará (MG), from the concept of “image of devotion” by Giulio Carlo Argan. Studying the system representation of baroque art, Argan identifies the image of devotion as a kind of religious figuration derived strictly Council of Trent prescriptions on the legitimate use of images. Commonly image of devotion has a simple form, so it’s very different from the baroque figurations. This article proposes to look over its in the Aleijadinho sculpture and analyses his penetration into a larger project of colonization based in a dissemination of Catholic doctrine.
Cryptococcal meningitis in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, 1994-2004

Abstract: the objective of this article was to evaluate the epidemiology of cryptococcal meningitis in rio de janeiro state, brazil, from 1994 to 2004. six hundred and ninety-six cases of cryptococcal meningitis were reported, with a mean incidence of 0.45 per 100,000 inhabitants. patients were predominantly male; mean age was 35.9 years; aids was practically the only underlying disease, reported in 61.2% of cases; case-fatality was 51.8%. no decline in incidence was observed during the study period. aids is the main predisposing condition for cryptococcal meningitis, and thus the profile of most patients mirrors that of hiv infection. missing information prevented the evaluation of other underlying diseases.

Abstract: the study aimed to compare the epidemiological profile of crytococcal meningitis in different information systems, thus assessing to what extent the profile available in the sistema de informa??o de agravos de notifica??o (information system for notifiable diseases) reflected cryptococcal meningitis occurrences in the state of rio de janeiro, southeastern brazil, between 2002 and 2004. that database was compared to a new database comprised of cryptococcal meningitis cases from this system, from the assessoria de meningite da secretaria de saúde do estado do rio de janeiro (state department of health meningitis advisory committee), and from the instituto estadual de infectologia s?o sebasti?o (state institute of infectious diseases) laboratory records. the system detected 65.7% of the cases present in the new database. the percentage of patients with aids as a pre-existing disease was similar in both databases (26% and 24.9%). thus, even though cryptococcal meningitis incidence is underreported in the system, the profile of notified cases reflects the profile of the total number of cases.

Ab initio calculation of the 66 low lying electronic states of HeH$^+$: adiabatic and diabatic representations

Abstract: We present an ab initio study of the HeH$^+$ molecule. Using the quantum chemistry package MOLPRO and a large adapted basis set, we have calculated the adiabatic potential energy curves of the first 20 $^1 \Sigma^+$, 19 $^3\Sigma^+$, 12 $^1\Pi$, 9 $^3\Pi$, 4 $^1\Delta$ and 2 $^3\Delta$ electronic states of the ion in CASSCF and CI approaches. The results are compared with previous works. The radial and rotational non-adiabatic coupling matrix elements as well as the dipole moments are also calculated. The asymptotic behaviour of the potential energy curves and of the various couplings between the states is also studied. Using the radial couplings, the diabatic representation is defined and we present an example of our diabatization procedure on the $^1\Sigma^+$ states.
Constraints on the generalized Chaplygin gas from supernovae observations

Abstract: We explore the implications of type Ia supernovae (SNIa) observations on flat cosmological models whose matter content is an exotic fluid with equation of state, p=-M^(4(a+1))/rho^a. In this scenario, a single fluid component may drive the Universe from a nonrelativistic matter dominated phase to an accelerated expansion phase behaving, first, like dark matter and in a more recent epoch as dark energy. We show that these models are consistent with current SNIa data for a rather broad range of parameters. However, future SNIa experiments will place stringent constraints on these models, and could safely rule out the special case of a Chaplygin gas (a=1) if the Universe is dominated by a true cosmological constant.
Stellar laboratories IV. New Ga IV, Ga V, and Ga VI oscillator strengths and the gallium abundance in the hot white dwarfs G191-B2B and RE0503-289

Abstract: For the spectral analysis of high-resolution and high-signal-to-noise (S/N) spectra of hot stars, advanced non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) model atmospheres are mandatory. These atmospheres are strongly dependent on the reliability of the atomic data that are used to calculate them. Reliable Ga IV - VI oscillator strengths are used to identify Ga lines in the spectra of the DA-type white dwarf G191-B2B and the DO-type white dwarf RE0503-289 and to determine their photospheric Ga abundances. We newly calculated Ga IV - VI oscillator strengths to consider their radiative and collisional bound-bound transitions in detail in our NLTE stellar-atmosphere models for analyzing of Ga lines exhibited in high-resolution and high-S/N UV observations of G191-B2B and RE0503-289. We unambiguously detected 20 isolated and 6 blended (with lines of other species) Ga V lines in the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) spectrum of RE0503-289. The identification of Ga IV and Ga VI lines is uncertain because they are weak and partly blended by other lines. The determined Ga abundance is 3.5 +/- 0.5 x 10**-5 (mass fraction, about 625 times solar). The Ga IV / GA V ionization equilibrium, which is a very sensitive indicator for the effective temperature, is well reproduced in RE0503-289. We identified the strongest Ga IV lines (1258.801, 1338.129 A) in the HST/STIS (Hubble Space Telescope / Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph) spectrum of G191-B2B and measured a Ga abundance of 2.0 +/- 0.5 x 10**-6 (about 22 times solar). Reliable measurements and calculations of atomic data are a prerequisite for stellar-atmosphere modeling. Observed Ga IV - V line profiles in two white dwarf (G191-B2B and RE0503-289) ultraviolet spectra were well reproduced with our newly calculated oscillator strengths. For the first time, this allowed us to determine the photospheric Ga abundance in white dwarfs.
