An Optical Biosensor for Monitoring Antigen Recognition Based on Surface Plasmon Resonance Using Avidin-Biotin System

Abstract: A novel optical biosensor based on simultaneous multiwave length detection surface plasmon resonance (SPR) has been developed for immunosensing. The sensor is designed on the basis of fixing angle of incidence and measuring the reflected intensities of light in the wavelength range of 400–800 nm. The SPR spectra are shown in terms of reflected light intensity verus wavelength of incident light. The intensity of the reflected light is the minimum at the resonant wavelength. The biorecognition surface, formed on a chemically modified gold layer, consists of avidin that is specifically bound with biotin. These sensing membranes were self-assembled on gold layer. The processes of sensing monolayer formation were studied in real time through observing the change of resonant wavelength. The modified surface was used as a model immunosensor and to detect successfully the human factor B (Bf). The Bf was determined in the concentration range of 0.5~100 μg/mL. Under optimum experimental conditions, the sensor has a good repeatability, reversibility and selectivity.

Abstract: Three microwave plasmas including microwave induced plasma, capacitively coupled microwave plasma and microwave plasma torch as atomic emission detectors for gas chromatography are evaluated in their history, application and restriction, separately. The development of microwave plasma atomic emission detectors for gas chromatography is prospected.

Abstract: This paper presents a method to model network delay for overlay network application. The network topology measurement technology and network AS information is used to build up model of network delay via AS and geographic distance. Based on global Internet measurement result, we calculated the parameters of the model. Furthermore, the model verification is done by comparing on AS-MMI protocol and HMTP protocol.

Abstract: A ring R is called right principally quasi-Baer (simply, right p.q.-Baer) if the right annihilator of every principal right ideal of R is generated by an idempotent. For a ring R, let G be a finite group of ring automorphisms of R. We denote the fixed ring of R under G by RG. In this work, we investigated the right p.q.-Baer property of fixed rings under finite group action. Assume that R is a semiprime ring with a finite group G of X-outer ring automorphisms of R. Then we show that: 1) If R is G-p.q.-Baer, then RG is p.q.-Baer; 2) If R is p.q.-Baer, then RG are p.q.-Baer.

Abstract: By using the characteristics of the new building in China, this article constructs the virtual repeat sale method to produce virtual repeat data which is similar to the repeat sale model on the house price index. Case-Shiller procedure and OFHEO method are used to calculate the house price index for new building in China. A discussion is given and furthering models are needed to take advantage of the virtual repeat sale data.

Abstract: The analytical paper mainly deals with the questions how the image of Sister Phoenix, one of the most “popular” ugly stars in China is narrated, and how it is reconstructed and circulated by the media. In the paper, the author utilize multiple analytical devices, such as Gee’s seven building tasks (2010), Bahktin’s dialogical processes, Fairclough’s (2003) approaches to critical discourse analysis and Couldry’s (2010) theories about media discourse. The aim of the paper is not only to explore the reason why her self-narration is destined to attract the interest of the media and the modern Chinese society but also aims at seeking how the media constantly helps producing new categories of life in front of the audience.

Phenol Removal from Water with Potassium Permanganate Modified Granular Activated Carbon  [PDF]

In order to improve adsorption capacity of granular activated carbon (GAC), potassium permanganate was used to react with GAC to change the surface properties and improve the adsorption capacity of GAC. By batch experiments, improvement of adsorption capacity of potassium permanganate modified GAC (GACM) was studied. The influence of adsorption time, temperature, ratio of phenol with GAC/GACM, initial concentration of phenol and pH on adsorption efficiency of GACM was studied. The results showed that modified by potassium permanganate, the adsorption capacity of GAC improved to a higher level. The removal efficiency of phenol increased to about 20%.

Motivation is considered as a key feature in the success of language learning and has great effect on the efficiency and productivity of English language teaching. And a lot of considerable researches and investigations have been done on Chinese college students’ motivation to learn English. Most researches like to value instrumental aspects as the major type for college students’ learning English in Chinese context while integrative motivation is often neglected. In this study, 300 college students are employed to further explore students’ instrumental motivation and integrative motivation and the data analysis of the study somehow shows difference from others, supporting that college students do have expectation and strong integrative motivation toward English language learning and recommendations are offered to the teachers to develop college students’ integrative motivation in English language teaching, suggesting focusing on cultural education in particular.
