Abstract:

Objective: To establish an interactive management model for community-oriented high-risk osteoporosis in conjunction with a rural community health service center. Materials and Methods: Toward multidimensional analysis of data, the system we developed combines basic principles of data warehouse technology oriented to the needs of community health services. This paper introduces the steps we took in constructing the data warehouse; the case presented here is that of a district community health management information system in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, China. For our data warehouse, we chose the MySQL 4.5 relational database, the Browser/Server, (B/S) model, and hypertext preprocessor as the development tools. Results: The system allowed online analysis processing and next-stage work preparation, and provided a platform for data management, data query, online analysis, etc., in community health service center, specialist outpatient for osteoporosis, and health administration sectors. Conclusion: The users of remote management system and data warehouse can include community health service centers, osteoporosis departments of hospitals, and health administration departments; provide reference for policymaking of health administrators, residents’ health information, and intervention suggestions for general practitioners in community health service centers, patients’ follow-up information for osteoporosis specialists in general hospitals.

 

An Investigation of Psychological Adjustment Differences among Chinese College Students: From the Perspectives of Their Gender, Major and Grade  [PDF]

Abstract: The goal of the study was to examine levels of psychological adjustment among college students in China; 650 college students took part in Adolescents’ Adaptability Scale (AAS). The results indicated that: 1) there was no significant gender difference in levels of psychological adjustment among college students in China; 2) there were apparent differences in majors. Students who specialized in physical art have the strongest levels of adjustment, while students who majored in arts have the weakest levels of adjustment; 3) significant differences were also existed in Grades, sophomores got the highest levels of adjustment, whereas seniors got the weakest levels of adjustment.
A Low-Cost Measurement Framework in Software Defined Networks  [PDF]

Abstract:
Software Defined Network (SDN) makes network management more flexible by separating control plane and data plane, centralized control and being programmable. Although, network measurement still remains in primary stage in SDN, it has become an essential research field in SDN management. In this context, this paper presents a low-cost high-accuracy measurement framework to support various network measurement tasks, such as throughput, delay and packet loss rate. In this framework, we only measure per-flow edge switches (the first and the last switches). In addition, a new adaptive sampling algorithm is proposed to significantly improve measurement accuracy and decrease network overhead. Meanwhile, we consider a low-cost topology discovery approach into our framework instead of topology discovery currently implemented by SDN controller frameworks. In order to improve the accuracy of delay, we also join a time threshold value to adjust the time delay. Furthermore, we consider and analyze the balance between measurement overhead and accuracy in several aspects. Last, we utilize POX controller to implement the proposed measurement framework. The effectiveness of our solution is demonstrated through simulations in Mininet and Matlab.
Template-Monomer Interaction in Molecular Imprinting: Is the Strongest the Best?  [PDF]

Abstract: Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) represent a new class of materials possessing high selectivity and affinity for the target molecule. They have been utilized as sensors, catalysts, sorbents for solid-phase extraction, stationary phase for liquid chromatography, mimics of enzymes, receptors, and antibodies. In this research, molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs) for luteolin were prepared using acrylamide, 4-vinylpyridine and 1-allyl-piperazine as functional monomers and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linker by non-covalent imprinting method. UV-visible spectra were used to evaluate the interaction strength between the template and the monomers. The composites of the polymers were calculated from elementary analysis. The porous properties of the imprinted polymers have been determined from nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The imprinting efficiency of the prepared MIPs was evaluated by selective adsorption for luteolin and its structural analogues. Although the interaction strength of monomers to the template was in the order 1-ALPP > 4-VP > AA, the binding affinity of the imprinted polymers towards luteolin was in the order MIP 2 > MIP 3 > MIP 1. Our results demonstrated that the imprinting efficiency was depending not only on the interaction strength between the template and the monomer, but also on the fidelity in transferring the complex into the polymer.

Abstract: Based on the possibility and necessity of integrating phased-based approach and TAG-based approach, the article attempts to realize the derivation-by-phase causatives in the framework of TAG and, in light of comparison and contrast of four subprograms according to conditions, constraints and hypotheses of the two approaches, finally chooses a subprogram with vPBE as the foot node, which is well in line with the Double-Phase Hypothesis proposed in the framework of minimalist syntax, as the one and only acceptable TAG derivation model of causatives.
Effects of soybean isoflavones on expression levels of osteoprotegerin and osteoprotegerin ligand mRNAs in bone tissues of ovariectomized rats

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effects of soybean isoflavones (SI) on expression levels of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and osteoprotegerin ligand (OPGL) mRNAs in bone tissues of ovariectomized rats, and to discuss the mechanism of soybean isoflavaones in preventing and treating postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMO). Methods: Thirty adult SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: sham-operation group, untreated group and SI-treated group. The rats in the last two groups were bilaterally ovariectomized. The bone density of L3 to L6 vertebrae was detected after 12-week intervention. Total RNA was extracted from femur head and the expression levels of OPG and OPGL mRNAs were examined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results: SI could increase the bone density of lumbar vertebrae in ovariectomized rats, up-regulate the expression level of OPG mRNA and down-regulate the ratio of OPGL mRNA/OPG mRNA, but exert no significant effect on the expression of OPGL mRNA.Conclusion: The therapeutic effects of SI on PMO may be related to regulating the expression levels of OPG and OPGL mRNAs, and the ratio of OPGL mRNA/OPG mRNA.

Abstract: Starting from the theoretical goal of syntax, and taking the difference between pedagogical grammar and syntax into consideration, this article, based on the author’s teaching practice and review of exam papers, analyzes common problems in drawing tree diagrams such as ternary branching and improper marking of grammatical categories, followed by proposals for constructing such representations, with a view to helping students to achieve reasonable and elegant drawings, and also to helping teachers to teach syntax more fruitfully.
Polyelectrolyte Layer-by-Layer Assembly from Self-Consistent Field Calculations

Abstract: We have modeled the layer-by-layer assembly process of flexible polyelectrolytes on flat surfaces. The multilayer has a three-zone structure. An exponential growth is found for the first several layers, followed by a linear growth for subsequent layers evolving towards a steady state. While adjacent layers are highly interpenetrating, stratification can be seen for every four or more layers. The effects of surface charge density, bulk salt concentration, and solvent quality on the thickness and internal structure of the multilayer are also studied. Our results agree with experimental findings.
Studying Soft Matter with "Soft" Potentials: Fast Lattice Monte Carlo Simulations and Corresponding Lattice Self-Consistent Field Calculations

Abstract: The basic idea of fast Monte Carlo (MC) simulations is to perform particle-based MC simulations with the excluded-volume interactions modeled by "soft" repulsive potentials that allow particle overlapping. This gives much faster system relaxation and better sampling of the configurational space than conventional molecular simulations with "hard" repulsions that prevent particle overlapping. Here we present fast lattice MC (FLMC) simulations for confined homopolymers, where multiple occupancy of lattice sites is allowed with a proper Boltzmann weight and thus the evaluation of nearest-neighbor interactions can also be avoided. When compared with the corresponding lattice field theories based on the \emph{same} Hamiltonian, FLMC simulations further provide a powerful means for unambiguously and quantitatively revealing the correlation/fluctuation effects.
Cyclotomy and permutation polynomials of large indices

Abstract: We use cyclotomy to design new classes of permutation polynomials over finite fields. This allows us to generate many classes of permutation polynomials in an algorithmic way. Many of them are permutation polynomials of large indices.
