Electrical Signal-to-Noise Ratio Enhancement in Detection of Mid-IR Signals by Four-Wave Mixing in As2S3-on-LiNbO3 Waveguides  [PDF]
Qi Chen, Christi Madsen
Optics and Photonics Journal (OPJ) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/opj.2016.65010
Abstract: Mid-infrared (mid-IR) signals can be converted to near-infrared (near-IR) wavelengths in As2S3-on-LiNbO3 waveguides by high efficiency four-wave mixing. It provided us a solution to detect mid-IR signals indirectly by state-of-the-art near-IR detectors. High efficiency four-wave mixing was demonstrated and electrical signal-to-noise ratio (eSNR) improvement was also investigated. Compared to direct detection by PbSe and HgCdTe (MCT) mid-IR detectors, the calculation indicated that, at room temperature, the indirect detection to mid-IR signals increased the electrical signal-to-noise ratio up to 67 dB.
Cluster Analysis Based on Contextual Features Extraction for Conversational Corpus  [PDF]

Journal of Computer and Communications (JCC) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jcc.2015.35004
Abstract:

Cluster analysis related to computational linguistics seldom concerned with Pragmatics level. Features of corpus on Pragmatics level related to specific situations, including backgrounds, titles and habits. To improve the accuracy of clustering for conversations collected from international students in Tsinghua University, it required contextual features. Here, we collected four-hundred conversations as a corpus and built it to Vector Space Model. With the Oxford-Duden Dictionary and other methods we modified the model and concluded into three groups. We testified our hypothesis through self-organizing map neural network. The result suggested that the modified model had a better outcome.

Abstract: We construct certain tensor categories that are dominated by finitely many simple objects. Objects in these categories are modules over rings of algebra integers. We show how to obtain TQFTs defined over algebra integers from these categories.

Phase-Matching and Parametric Conversion for the Mid-Infrared in As2S3 Waveguides  [PDF]
Qi Chen, Xin Wang, Christi Madsen
Optics and Photonics Journal (OPJ) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/opj.2012.24031
Abstract:

We illustrate two As2S3 waveguide designs for four-wave mixing, which can generate 3.03 μm mid-infrared light from a 1.55 μm near-infrared signal source and a 2.05 μm pump source. Through simulations, we verify that four-wave mixing phase-matching efficiencies up to 100% can be achieved using dispersion engineering to maintain the dispersion at 2.05 μm near to zero. The best conversion efficiency is –10 dB. When the waveguide length is 1 cm, the parametric conversion bandwidth is 1525 nm. We also evaluated the shift of 100% phase-matching efficiency wavelengths based upon fabrication tolerances.

Spatial Intuition in Elementary Arithmetic: A Neurocomputational Account
Qi Chen, Tom Verguts
PLOS ONE , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0031180
Abstract: Elementary arithmetic (e.g., addition, subtraction) in humans has been shown to exhibit spatial properties. Its exact nature has remained elusive, however. To address this issue, we combine two earlier models for parietal cortex: A model we recently proposed on number-space interactions and a modeling framework of parietal cortex that implements radial basis functions for performing spatial transformations. Together, they provide us with a framework in which elementary arithmetic is based on evolutionarily more basic spatial transformations, thus providing the first implemented instance of Dehaene and Cohen's recycling hypothesis.
Some problems in application of MDD model (I)
Qi Li,Wenji Chen
Chinese Science Bulletin , 1999, DOI: 10.1007/BF03183493
Abstract: In the process of40Ar/39Ar experiment, excess40Ar(40ArE) released from K-feldspar at low temperature step may mask the real age and thermal history information of the sample. A method for Cl correction of40ArE has been introduced and successively used in correction of abnormally high age values of three K-feldspar samples at low temperature step taken from the Red River fault zone. It provides a reliable age information at low temperature step for further multiple diffusion domain (MDD) model fitting.
