Abstract: This article analyzes relations between self-regulated learning, self-efficacy beliefs, and performance in tasks of solving arithmetic problems. The research includes 268 six-year-old students enrolled in the first year of primary school in Spain. The results from binary logistic regression models indicate that self-regulated learning and its interaction with self-efficacy beliefs predict performance. Finally, the cluster analysis shows four profiles of students: i) positive adjusted; ii) negative unadjusted I; iii) negative unadjusted II y; iv) negative adjusted..

Teaching Petrarchan and Anti-Petrarchan Discourses in Early Modern English Lyrics
Purificación Ribes
International Journal of Higher Education , 2012, DOI: 10.5430/ijhe.v1n1p62
Abstract: The aim of the present article is to help students realize that Petrarchism has been an influential source of inspiration for Early Modern English lyrics. Its topics and conventions have lent themselves to a wide variety of appropriations which the present selection of texts for analysis tries to illustrate. A few telling examples from Spenser, Sidney, Donne and Marvell have been chosen where the topic of the lady cast as a valuable treasure is variously addressed. Whereas Spenser’s Sonnet 15 of his Amoretti conveys the lover’s confident hope of its possession in a near marriage, Sidney’s Sonnet 37 of Astrophil and Stella portrays his frustration at the idea of being robbed of his cherished jewel by a less worthy rival. Donne’s The Sun Rising extends the image of the valuable treasure to include the lyric I, while removing the traditional Petrarchan opposition between charitas and eros, whereas Marvell’s To his Coy Mistress inscribes his parody of the Petrarchan topic of the lady as unattainable jewel within the carpe diem tradition.

Competency-based Teaching of Shakespeare: How to Master King Lear
Purificación Ribes
International Education Studies , 2011, DOI: 10.5539/ies.v4n5p18
Abstract: Shakespeare’s hypotext has invited so many hypertextual transformations over the last four hundred years that twenty-first century students deserve the chance of digging into this rich mine of information and dramatic possibilities. The practical approach of a competency-based teaching method offers great advantages over traditional practices in that it devises a series of specific tasks for students to perform. As a result, their linguistic, historical, theatrical and intercultural skills are enhanced to such an extent that they acquire the competence they need to approach other early modern texts in a confident manner. This paper suggests a variety of tasks which can help students achieve this goal in a satisfactory way. Students are offered different textual versions of King Lear for comparison and commentary. They are likewise provided with excerpts from historical documents that cast light on Lear’s political and cultural context. Finally, different filmed versions of the play are watched and discussed, paying attention to their choice of setting, costumes, props, music, as well as to the hierarchical relationship between different semiotic systems.

Abstract: the purpose of this investigation was to describe, understand and interpret the knowledge and experiences of children between 6 and 12 years old in a pediatric intensive care unit (picu). the quantitative methodology used has been to study the cases from an ethnographic point of view. data has been collected in a four level* hospital of madrid and in the homes of the children by using participating witnessing and semistructured interviews with two girls and a child, their families, picu professionals and a nurse of the pediatrics section of the hospital. among the results, the barriers for the care and communication is one of the topics that have turn out related to the main subject of the study: the physical and emotional suffering of children. part of the conclusions show us that there is a tendency to consider children as passive persons. no value is given nor taken any profit of their capacity to understand what is happening to themselves and express it; to interchange ideas and opinions about their welfare, their health situation and participation in their care. parents and families keep themselves in a second plane. Mayobre Rodríguez,Purificación;
Revista Venezolana de Estudios de la Mujer , 2007,
Abstract: the reflection is focused on the determination of gender as a key to build the subjectivity. the hierarchy or asymmetry depicted by genders is an expression of a bipolarity inherent to the logical structure of western thinking, grounded on the ontological dualism of plato. femineity rises as a normative form of gender for all women. in this paper the philosophical roots of gender system are presented, as well as the wide and intense current discussion about what is and ought to be the meaning of being a woman or the femineity
