Abstract: background: there is importance in analysis of tech-learning in the medical schools that allows identify opportunities of improvement in end-of-life care education. purpose: the aim of this study is describe end-of-care teaching attitudes and practices in undergraduate medical curriculum in brazil as reported by the course coordinators. method: a questionnaire about end-of-life care was applied on 179 course coordinators of medical schools in brazil. results: fifty-eight coordinators participated (32,4%). most of them (96,6%) considered end-of-life care education as very important. seventy-tree percent believes that the time to teaching about palliative care in their curriculum is insufficient. the priority given to education in palliative care is considered insufficient or inexistent in 50,9% of cases. the small number of faculty expertise is one of barriers to incorporate end-life-care in the medical school's curriculum. conclusion: attitudes and practices suggest that end-life-care education has limitations in undergraduate medical brazilian curriculum. even so the current coordinators believe its importance still is given little priority to the education of this subject in brazil.
Genetic diversity among Brazilian soybean cultivars based on SSR loci and pedigree data
Priolli, Regina Helena Geribello;Pinheiro, José Baldin;Zucchi, Maria Imaculada;Bajay, Miklos Maximiliano;Vello, Natal Antonio;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132010000300004
Abstract: in this study, simple sequence repeats (ssr) loci and pedigree data were used to investigate the genetic relationship in a group of 168 brazilian soybean cultivars. eighteen ssr loci produced an average of 5.06 alleles and a mean gene diversity of 0.58 for the cultivars studied. genetic distance (gd) was determined using the modified roger's wright distance, and a final dendrogram was in agreement with the cultivar pedigree. a distance matrix based on the coefficient of parentage scores was also generated for the cultivars, which ranged from 0 to 1, with a mean of 0.18, whereas ssr-based genetic similarity (1- gd) ranged from 0.01 to 0.90, with a mean of 0.25. mantel's z test showed that the similarity matrices generated from both the data sets were low, but significantly correlated (r = 0.31, p<0.001). the results showed that ssr data and pedigree analyses could help to quantify more accurately the degree of relationship among the soybean cultivars.

Abstract: the analysis of morphofunctions characteristics can be useful in the colorectal cancer evolution, especially if related to the serum carcinoembryonic antigen levels. the research of chromosomes and genes instability, as well as the alterations of tissue protein codified, makes attractive the possibility to use potentially valid functional factors as variables for the understanding of colorectal carcinoma prognosis. objective: to consider classes based on morphologic and functional colorectal carcinoma characteristics, valuing serum carcinoembryonic antigen levels prognostic power. method: third-five patients in different stages of colorectal carcinoma underwent operations from 2001 to 2007. serum cea levels, histological grade, tissue cea cell polarization capacity were analyzed. colorectal carcinoma was classified according to tnm stages. the morphofunctional classification was determined by the combination between histological grade and antigen polarization, morphofunctional stages have been based in association between morphofunctional classification and stages tnm, by punctuation attributed to each one classification. the results had been analyzed by variance analysis, correlation test and survival analysis (kaplan-meier and cox model regression), adopting p<0.05. results: morphofunctional stages survival curve resulted similar to the joined ones in stages tnm. it had relation between new classification proposed and patient survival time. they had observed relation among survival time, morphofunctional classification and serum carcinoembryonic antigen. conclusion: morphofunctional classification is valid for colorectal cancer patient's prognostic evaluation and is related with the serum cea levels.

Revista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia , 2003,
Abstract: A miíase de localiza o vulvar é doen a rara.

Acta Cirurgica Brasileira , 2003,
Abstract: PURPOSE: This work had the objective of verifying the validity of using computerized morphometry as a method of quantitative analysis of the interference of edema in scar formation following colon anastomosis. METHODS: Forty-five adult female Wistar rats were utilized, divided into three groups of 15 animals according to whether sacrifice was performed on the first, second or seventh postoperative day. Each group was subdivided into a main group consisting of 10 animals, and a control group consisting of five animals. In the main group, in addition to the quantitative computerized morphometric analysis of the edema in the submucosal layer, the resistance of the colon anastomosis to bursting strength was verified. In the control group, edema quantification was studied alone. RESULTS: The results found via the computerized morphometry method showed that there is a 7% decrease in the presence of edema during the first postoperative week. They confirmed that there is an inverse statistically significant relationship (p< 0.001) between edema presence and the resistance of the anastomosis to bursting strength. CONCLUSION: The use of computerized morphometry is a reliable, fast, objective and low-cost methodology for the quantification of edema in colon anastomoses.

Acta Cirurgica Brasileira , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-86502012000600001
Abstract: purpose: the present a novel adenocarcinoma model in athymic mice. methods: seven athymic mice were used. colon diversion and distal fistula were made. adenocarcinoma cells were inoculated in the submucosa of fistula. tumor growth was monitored daily. scintigraphy with 99mtc-mibi was performed to identify the tumor. results: the model of distal colon cancer is feasible. tumor detection was possible by both, macroscopically and molecular imaging. all resections demonstrated poorly differentiated tumors. colon obstruction occurred in one case, similarly to evolution in human tumors of distal colon. conclusion: the proposed model of distal colon cancer is feasible, allows for easy monitoring of tumoral growth by both, macroscopically and molecular imaging, and is suitable for studying the evolution of tumor with implementation of cytotoxic therapy in vivo.
