Prophetic social sciences: toward an Isl amic-based t ransformative social sciences
Pradana Boy ZTF
Indonesian Journal of Islam and Muslim Societies , 2011,
Abstract: This article discusses of one of the most important type of social sciences developed in Indonesian context. In the midst of debate between Western secular social sciences and Islamic social sciences, Kuntowijoyo offered a genuine yet critical formula of social sciences. The formula called Ilmu Sosial Profetik(ISP) attempted to build a bridge between secular social science and Islamic inclination of social science. This article describes the position of ISP in the context of critical position of Muslim social scientists on the hegemony and domination of Orientalist tendency in studying Islam. At the end, the author offers a conclusion that ISP can actually be regarded as Islamic-based transformative science that can be further developed for a genuine indigenous theory of social sciences from the Third World.

Abstract:

The link between inflation and economic growth is one of the most important controversies in the economic literature. This paper investigates the short-run and the long-run relationship between the economic growth and the inflation of three Asian courtiers over the period 1980-2010. The methodology used in the study is cointegration and causality test. Johansen’s cointegration test and bound test approach were performed on the variables which have been tested for the stationary property using Augmented Dickey-Fuller and Phillips and Perron tests in order to examine the cointegration between the economic growth and the inflation. Vector error correction and Granger Causality test were further performed to discover the short run dynamics of the relationship between the variables and identify the direction of causality. The results reveal that there is a long run negative and significant relationship between the economic growth and inflation in Sri Lanka. Whereas no statistically significant relationships were found between the variables in China and in India, a negative and significant short run relationship was found for China. The causality results reveal that there is a unidirectional causality that runs from the economic growth to the inflation in China. The paper discusses the important policy implications of the results.

A HISTóRIA DAS GUERRAS: UM ESTUDO SOBRE AS DESCRI??ES DOS BáRBAROS EM PROC?PIO DE CESAREIA - SéCULO VI

Abstract: this article proposes a study about the book history of the wars, writing by procopius of caesarea in the sixth century, which narrates th byzantines achievements of justinian at mediterranean and eastern persia. the goal is to analyze how the descriptions of procopius about the barbarian people can be understood as a narrative committed and, at the same time, subjected to the imperial project of expanding boundaries.
Yanaconazgo y derecho romano: ?una conjunción extravagante?

Abstract: yanaconazgois an inca institution that the spaniards showed great interest in preserving. jurists did an effective "juridical regulation" of such institution by means of its own naturalization in the ius commune context. the procedure consisted of the selective search for parallelisms between the hispanic-peruvian yanaconazgo, deeply transformed in relation to the previous era, and the roman settlement of the late empire. in this way, on the basis of a seductive similarity in the economic and fiscal motivation in both situations, although completely marginal to the historical abyss which keeps their respective contexts apart, the jurists could give dogmatic soundness to the main features of the yanaconazgo?s legal system by means of its links to the roman laws concerning appointed colonists. thus, an effort to be recognized ideologically and scientifically has been made, offering -with respect to a pre-established, factual condition- interesting considerations for a reflection upon the motives and techniques of the indiano jurists as far as their interpretation and administration of a juridical system attached to the ius communeis concerned.
The part of the solar spectrum with the highest influence on the formation of SOA in the continental boundary layer

Abstract: The relationship between nucleation events and spectral solar irradiance was analysed using two years of data collected at the Station for Measuring Forest Ecosystem-Atmosphere Relations (SMEAR II) in Hyyti l , Finland. We analysed the data in two different ways. In the first step we calculated ten nanometer average values from the irradiance measurements between 280 and 580 nm and explored if any special wavelengths groups showed higher values on event days compared to a spectral reference curve for all the days for 2 years or to reference curves for every month. The results indicated that short wavelength irradiance between 300 and 340 nm is higher on event days in winter (February and March) compared to the monthly reference graph but quantitative much smaller than in spring or summer. By building the ratio between the average values of different event classes and the yearly reference graph we obtained peaks between 1.17 and 1.6 in the short wavelength range (300--340 nm). In the next step we included number concentrations of particles between 3 and 10 nm and calculated correlation coefficients between the different wavelengths groups and the particles. The results were quite similar to those obtained previously; the highest correlation coefficients were reached for the spectral irradiance groups 3--5 (300--330 nm) with average values for the single event classes around 0.6 and a nearly linear decrease towards higher wavelengths groups by 30%. Both analyses indicate quite clearly that short wavelength irradiance between 300 and 330 or 340 nm is the most important solar spectral radiation for the formation of newly formed aerosols. In the end we introduce a photochemical mechanism as one possible pathway how short wavelength irradiance can influence the formation of SOA by calculating the production rate of excited oxygen. This mechanism shows in which way short wavelength irradiance can influence the formation of new particles even though the absolute values are one to two magnitudes smaller compared to irradiance between 400 and 500 nm.

Desertion from the origo by farmers and decurions was a very frequent phenomenon througohut III and IV centuries. This paper studies the procedure for claiming the fugitives through three imperial constitutions of the 400, 416 and 419 that indicate a homogenous conception about it and clarify some of its main aspects.

Yanaconazgois an Inca institution that the Spaniards showed great interest in preserving. In this way, on the basis of a seductive similarity in the economic and fiscal motivation in both situations, although completely marginal to the historical abyss which keeps their respective contexts apart, the jurists could give dogmatic soundness to the main features of the yanaconazgo’s legal system by means of its links to the Roman laws concerning appointed colonists.
