THE EFFECTS OF FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENTS ON EMPLOYMENT IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE. FOCUS ON ROMANIA AND POLAND
VINTILA DENISIA,Popescu Raluca Georgiana
Annals of the University of Oradea : Economic Science , 2012,
Abstract: Central and Eastern Europe has become a player on the international market of foreign direct investment (FDI) with the fall of communism in 1990. Liberalization of markets has brought both advantages and disadvantages to new states in transition. Despite modest values of FDI received, the share of the region in total global FDI is increasing. Any type of investment, foreign or domestic one, is considered crucial as it generates employment and contributes to the economic growth .This paper tries to provide an analysis of the effects of FDI on the labor force of this region, and specifically in Romania and Poland. We analyzed the quantitative effect on the labor force, more precisely the effect on the employment. Foreign subsidiaries hold an important part of the occupied population, although the number of foreign firms is lower than the domestic ones. Despite the destruction of jobs in the early transition in the process of restructuring, foreign subsidiaries, both directly and indirectly create jobs and usually at a higher rate than the domestic companies manage to do. During the recent financial crisis, foreign subsidiaries proved to be more resilient and the cut off jobs was lower than in domestic firms.
Managerial Stock Compensation and Risky Investment
Raluca Georgiana Nastasescu
Theoretical and Applied Economics , 2009,
Abstract: This study analyzes the relationship between the mix of CEO equity-based compensation, namely stock options and restricted stock, and firms' risky investment. In general, the theory suggests that long-term compensation aligns CEOs' and shareholders' interests by inducing the managers to undertake risky investment, which has a positive impact on longterm well-being of the firm. However, as my results show, it is important to distinguish between types of awards since they can have different effects on the riskiness of the firm. In this respect, I answer the question how are different types of stock based compensation related to the executives' determination to increase or not the intensity of the firm's risky investment? I find that awarding the CEOs preponderantly with stock options positively affects the firm's level of R&D investment. Conversely, a higher proportion of restricted stock in the CEO's compensation is related to lower investment in (risky) R&D. The inverse relation of causality also holds. Firms that make intensive R&D investments are more likely to award their CEOs with more stock options relative to restricted stock. Overall, the results are consistent with the theoretical prediction, in that the managerial compensation scheme plays an important role in determining the level of R&D investment.
Borderless Crime - Computer Fraud

Database Systems Journal , 2012,
Abstract: Starting from the consideration that fighting cybercrime is a continuous process, the more the types of old crimes are committed today through modern means (computer fraud) at distances of thousands of kilometers, international cooperation is vital to combat this phenomenon. In EU countries, still under financial crisis "the phrase", cybercrime has found a "positive environment" taking advantage of poor security management systems of these countries.Factors that led criminal groups to switch "their activities" are related to so-called advantages of the "gains" obtained with relatively low risk.In Romania, more than any of the EU member states criminal activities set as target financial institutions or foreign citizens, weakening confidence in financial systems and the security of communication networks in our country, people's confidence in electronic payment instruments and those available on the Internet.

Annals of the University of Oradea : Economic Science , 2010,
Abstract: Under no.11 position paper "Economic and Monetary Union", Romania took responsibility of reporting according to European System of Accounts - ESA 95. Public Institution classification is necessary to delineate the perimeter of general government (S.13), subdividing it into sub-sectors and to define how to consolidate their financial statements. To fulfill this research we used methods of documentary research, observation, analysis and empirical observation. Through the specific procedure of documents observation performed we accomplish delineating the problem in the general context. The empirical experiments produced practical data. The purpose of this study considered the practical applicability of a solution in offering a model of reporting that lead to increased correctness, forwardness, quality, of accounting information provided to their users.
TRENDS IN ROMANIAN TOURISM
Pirjol Florentina,Maxim Raluca Georgiana,Nagy Andrea
Annals of the University of Oradea : Economic Science , 2011,
Abstract: Tourism is an industry of the future, having the potential to provide significant revenues, and an industry of 'beauty', because it will protect, preserve and contribute to arranging the environment affected by other human activities. This is why it is very important to know the evolution of this underdeveloped field in our country. This paper is intended as a study on current trends in Romanian tourism without any claim of being an exhaustive research on the industry, describing the main indices of tourist traffic and their influence on Romanian tourism. Nowadays, we witness three main trends in Romanian tourism: sustainability, ecotourism and the increasing presence of cultural tourism. Ecotourism, as a form of tourism, has emerged from people's need to withdraw in nature, to visit and learn about the natural areas which have or have not a national or international protection status. Cultural tourism appears as a type of tourism clearly differentiated from other forms or types of tourism, particularly through motivation. It can be defined as a form of tourist mobility whose primary goal is broadening the horizon of knowledge by uncovering its architectural and artistic heritage and the areas in which it originates. Sustainability for tourism, as for other industries, has three independent aspects: economic, socio-cultural and environmental. Sustainability implies permanence, which means that sustainable tourism requires the optimal use of resources, minimizing the negative economic, socio-cultural and ecological impact, maximizing the benefits upon local communities, national economies and conservation of nature. Regarding statistical data, in what quantity is concerned, there is an increase in Romanian tourism, but in what quality is concerned there is a setback for tourism in the last years. This aspect should make public authorities take concern in improving the infrastructure and the quality of the touristical activity and in diversifying entertainment.
The influence of the geomorphological factors on the relief modelling within Eselnita hydrographic basin (Danube catchment/Romania)
DANIELA VLAD,RALUCA-GEORGIANA ALEXANDRU
Cinq Continents , 2012,
Abstract: Developed on the south-eastern side of Alm jului Mountains, E elni adrainage basin neighbours upon the following basins: upon S – SV with Mala, upon SV - V with Mraconia, upon V – NV with Berzasca, upon NV - NNE with Nera and on the NNE – SE direction with Cerna. The basin has a surface of 77 km2 and present a 5th degree hydrographic network according to Horton-Strahler ranking system, tributary to Danube by means of E elni a main collector. Developed in a mountain landscape, the basin presents different levels held between minimum altitude of 64 m at the confluence with the Danube and maximum altitude of 1107 m, thus presenting a difference of 1043 m. Geological formationswithin the basin belong predominant to the Danubian Domain, so in central and upper courses, these are represented by a crystalline foundation and by magmatic rocks of intrusive nature covered by very small areas of sediment located in the northwest (belong to the LowerJurassic) and in the south-eastern (belongs to the Upper Cretaceous) of the basin. But in the lower course, there are both crystalline and the sedimentary formations, last being integrated to Or ova depression and whose presence is related to the evolution of the Danube. Morphometric indices of E elni a basin allows the distinction of a higher sector, mountainous terrain with high energy under a relatively increased fragmentation and depression sector with low relief energy and also with an intense fragmentation of the existing sedimentaryrocks wich favors erosion manifestation in the context of deforestation action.
COMPARATIVE STUDY REGARDING EU URBAN AREAS TOURISM PROMOTION USING OFFICIAL WEBSITES – EXAMPLES OF GOOD PRACTICES FOR ROMANIA’S CAPITAL CITY

Transylvanian Review of Administrative Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: At the beginning of the 21 st century the importance of Internet has gained dimensions which cannot be ignored both in respect of the business environment, as well as in respect of recreational activities. As a result of technological development which made superior technology available for a large part of population, Internet has become one of the most employed marketing channels. In these conditions, the urban destinations for tourists, in order to face the erce international competition, had to use as a solution the promotion over the Internet, which ultimately makes the difference between success and failure. The present study aims to research a series of practices for tourism promotion of leading cities of the EU (London, Paris and Rome) by the creation and use of of cial websites, in order to identify a set of best practices which will allow the know-how transfer for building a tourism website for the Romanian capital.
From Errors Treatment to Exceptions Treatment Regarding the Execution Control over Visual Basic Programs

Informatica Economica Journal , 2008,
Abstract: In order to comply with the quality standards and with the best practices, the execution of the professional programs must be rigorously controlled so that to avoid occurrence of unpredictable situations that might generate anomalies and could lead to computer blockage, forced termination of the execution and data loss. In traditional programming languages, including Visual Basic 6, the concept of error is extremely evolved. It is considered as error any situation in which the program fails to execute correctly, regardless if such anomaly is generated by a software or hardware cause. Nowadays the modern platforms, including VB.NET have introduced a new concept: exception. Unfortunately, perhaps by mistake, exception is assimilated by many IT specialists as an exceptional (extraordinary) situation or a rare situation. We agree with the opinion of those IT specialists asserting that error is strictly dependant on the programmer, when he/she fails in correctly generating the application ¢ € s structures, whilst exception is a situation not fitting in the usual natural execution or as desired by the programmer or user, without meaning that it occurs more often or more rarely.Designing robust programs implies for such not to terminate abnormally or block, not even upon receiving improper parameters. Two aspects are referred to: the behavior regarding low level errors (caused by the operation system, memory allocation, reading/writing in files or hardware malfunctions) and the reaction to the user ¢ € s errors, such as providing incorrect input data or incorrect use of operations in respect with their sequences. Notwithstanding what platform is used in designing the programs and regardless the controversy between the specialists, in order for the execution to be terminated under the program ¢ € s control, the commands that might generate anomalies and interruptions should be strictly monitored. Implicitly, the execution control should be handed over to specialized procedures, able to analyze the causes generating the anomaly and to launch into execution the most adequate remedy processes, or, as a last resort, to allow for the controlled termination of the program. These elements that are specific to Visual Basic programming are unitarily and systematically presented both by the traditional unstructured approach of errors and by the modern vision of structured exceptions ¢ € approach, finally emphasizing the uncontestable advantages of the .NET platform.

Abstract: The paper aims to present the consumers’ perceptions in a volatile environment such as the one dominated by the economic crisis phenomenon. Our research starts with a short analysis of previous research papers that were focusing on the subject of consumers’ perceptions, putting an accent on the most reliable sources that we had access to. Furthermore, our paper reveals the general trends in consumers’ perceptions, having in mind studies already done on countries such as Brazil, India, Saudi, Indonesia, China, Russia, Egypt, during the time period 2010 and 2011. Also, we have made our own research studies during the time period 2010 – 2011 on a number of Romanian individuals in order to generate a specific consumer’s trend here as well. The study presents as well the prediction that specialists and we have made for the year 2012 in terms of consumers’ perceptions, based on the statistics offered by the years 2010 and 2011.
