International Archives of Otorhinolaryngology , 2012,
Abstract: Introduction: This is an objective laboratory assessment of the central auditory systems of children with learning disabilities. Aim: To examine and determine the properties of the components of the Auditory Middle Latency Response in a sample of children with learning disabilities. Methods: This was a prospective, cross-sectional cohort study with quantitative, descriptive, and exploratory outcomes. We included 50 children aged 8-13 years of both genders with and without learning disorders. Those with disorders of known organic, environmental, or genetic causes were excluded. Results and Conclusions: The Na, Pa, and Nb waves were identified in all subjects. The ranges of the latency component values were as follows: Na = 9.8-32.3 ms, Pa = 19.0-51.4 ms, Nb = 30.0-64.3 ms (learning disorders group) and Na = 13.2-29.6 ms, Pa = 21.8-42.8 ms, Nb = 28.4-65.8 ms (healthy group). The values of the Na-Pa amplitude ranged from 0.3 to 6.8 ìV (learning disorders group) or 0.2-3.6 ìV (learning disorders group). Upon analysis, the functional characteristics of the groups were distinct: the left hemisphere Nb latency was longer in the study group than in the control group. Peculiarities of the electrophysiological measures were observed in the children with learning disorders. This study has provided information on the Auditory Middle Latency Response and can serve as a reference for other clinical and experimental studies in children with these disorders.

Gondim, Janedalva Pontes;Fernandes, ?ngela Maria Dias;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97022011000300004
Abstract: the article presents the results of a study developed at the graduate program in education of the federal university of paraíba. the investigation had as its objective to analyze the social, political and ideological contradictions observable in the institutional documents on the education policies for teachers and for art teaching in the curricula of pedagogy courses, making use, for this purpose, of theoretical and methodological principles of the critical discourse analysis. the analysis included the 2006 national curriculum guidelines for the pedagogy course, the political-pedagogical projects of these courses at the public universities of paraíba (federal university of paraíba - jo?o pessoa campus, federal university of campina grande - campina grande campus, state university of paraíba - campina grande campus), and the syllabuses of the disciplines related to the teaching of art in these projects. although these curriculum changes are recent, the study found decontextualized, conservative, and mistaken conceptions and models regarding teacher education and the meaning of art, demonstrating that there is still a long way ahead in the construction of curriculum proposals committed to the creative activity of the human being. therefore, investing in the teaching of art and in the formation of the teacher-pedagogue would contribute both to enrich their human formation through the artistic production, and to stimulate the creative capacity of the students, as proclaimed by the defenders of an art teaching that points toward the diversity of the human being.

Abstract: Objective: The goal of this study was to determine the prevalence of C. trachomatis in women diagnosed with infertility attending the Outpatient Clinic of Infertility from Botucatu Medical School, UNESP, Brazil. Patients and Methods: This molecular study enrolled a total of 112 women. Among these patients, 62 presented primary infertility while 50 presented secondary infertility. The criteria for eligibility included women who were: reproductive-aged; no prior report of seroconversion for HIV; no antibiotic or vaginal cream used in the preceding 30 days; and abstinence from sexual intercourse for 72 hours before the visit. The women were submitted to a gynecological examination and cervical samples were collected with an endocervical cytobrush for molecular analysis of C. trachomatis. Results: The prevalence of chlamydial infection was 8% with similar prevalence between primary (8.1%) and secondary (8.0%) infertility. Conclusion: Considering the asymptomatic nature of chlamydial infection and its association with tubal factor infertility, there is a pressing need to incorporate the screening of C. trachomatis infection as part of the routine investigation for infertility. The early diagnostic by screening can minimize complications and reduce Public Health costs with Assisted Reproductive Technology.

Abstract: the objective in this work was to evaluate the effects of lime and zinc levels, as well as their interaction on development in castor bean plants. the hypothesis of this work is that the lime levels reduce the zinc availability in soil for the plant. the experiment was carried out under greenhouse conditions without temperature control, in pots with 17 dm3 of 'dystrophic red latosol', medium texture. the statistical design was of randomized blocks, in a 3 x 5 factorial scheme, with four replicates. the treatments consisted of liming to reach three basis saturations: 40, 60 and 80%, combined with five zinc levels: 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0 mg dm-3. only one plant per pot was grown up to 174 days after emergence (first mature raceme), at which point the morphologic and production components of plants were evaluated. higher lime levels resulted in greater number of seeds per plant and dry matter of seeds per plant. there was interaction of basis saturation and zinc in plant height, in dry matter of root and in length of raceme (masculine part and total). however, none of these increases reflected a significant difference in weight of 100 castor bean seeds.
