Abstract: Long-term nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) therapy has been associated with several adverse effects such as gastric ulceration and cardiovascular events. Among the molecular modifications strategies, the prodrug approach is a useful tool to discover new safe NSAIDs. The 1-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)indolin-2-one is a diclofenac prodrug which demonstrated relevant anti-inflammatory properties without gastro ulceration effect. In addition, the prodrug decreases PGE 2 levels, COX-2 expression and cellular influx into peritoneal cavity induced by carrageenan treatment. Preliminary pharmacokinetic studies have shown in vivo bioconversion of prodrug to diclofenac. This prodrug is a new nonulcerogenic NSAID useful to treat inflammatory events by long-term therapy.

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the possible allelopathic effects of young and mature leaf extract from of two eucalyptus genetic materials on the physiological performance of millet seeds. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 5 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement [five concentrations of the extract (0, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) × two genetic materials (1 - Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus urophylla and 2 - Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus camaldulensis) × two maturation stages of leaves (young and mature leaves)] with four replicates, each one with 25 seeds. Seeding was performed on the germitest paper substrate distributed in Petri dishes, moistened with the extract according to the treatments, being allocated in biochemical oxygen demand (B.O.D) adjusted at 25°C and 12 h photoperiod. Percentage, speed index, mean germination time, aerial part and primary root length, and dry matter weight of aerial part and root system of seedlings were evaluated. The leaf extracts of the two eucalyptus clones had all the analyzed variables changed with effect more evident on young leaf extract of the genetic material 1. It can be concluded that the tested genetic materials have a detrimental effect on the physiological performance of millet seeds.

Organising Documentation in Knowledge Evolution and Communication
Cristina De Castro,Paolo Toppan
Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics , 2007,
Abstract: The knowledge of a subject evolves in time due to many factors, such as better understanding, study of additional issues within the same subject, study of related work from other themes, etc. This can be achieved by individual work, direct cooperation with other people and, in general, knowledge sharing. In this context, and in the broader context of knowledge communication, the appropriate organisation of documentation plays a fundamental role, but is often very difficult to achieve. A layered architecture is here proposed for the development of a structured repository of documentation, here called knowledge-bibliography KB. The process of knowledge acquisition, evolution and communication is firstly considered, then the distributed nature of nowadays knowledge and the ways it is shared and transferred are taken into account. On the basis of the above considerations, a possible clustering of documentation collected by many people is defined. An LDAP-based architecture for the implementation of this structure is also discussed.

Abstract: It is known that raising children is the responsibility of parents. However, several factors of an economic, relational and work have led grandparents to actively participate in the creation of grandchildren. Research has shown that for many grandparents, the fact of raising their grandchildren causes several difficulties to physical and psychological level, among which we highlight increased anxiety and depression. This study therefore aimed to design, implement and evaluate the effects of a psycho-educational intervention aimed at alleviating anxiety and depression of grandparents caring for grandchildren. 55 grandparents with an average age of 64 years participated in this research. They underwent a sociodemographic questionnaire, application BAI and BDI, before and after a psychoeducational intervention, and an interview to evaluate the intervention. This comprised eight sessions held weekly in groups, lasting two and a half hours. After analyzing the results, it can be seen that the grandparents reduced the level of depression and anxiety. This experience led to observe, through appearance, ease and own lines of grandparents; the intervention consisted in beneficial space so that they can better deal with the raising of grandchildren.

Abstract: The virtual world of the internet is increasingly present in society. However the accessibility to this world is not fully guaranteed in an inclusive way for those with special needs. In this study, we investigated the presence of accessibility tools considered of less complexity (increase of text font, navigation shortcuts and high contrast) in homepages of 97 Brazilian Educational Institutions including 38 Federal Institutes of Vocational Education, Science and Technology which were specialized in technical formation and 59 Federal Universities. The results of the Federal Institutes revealed that 12 of the 38 sites had none of the tools evaluated, which might hinder or prevent the access of those with special needs. The analysis also revealed the increase of text font as the tool with the highest incidence in the evaluated sites (26 of 38 sites). The universities analysis showed that 41 of the 59 sites evaluated did not have any of the tools analyzed and only the Federal University of Ceará showed all evaluated tools. According to our overall analysis, this is a global issue in several educational institutions who ignore the right of the people with special needs to access this educational virtual world. This lack of access may hugely compromise this people’s life in a longer perspective so they should be remembered by those who have the control of these virtual environments. People with special needs may have a full and complete life, including in the virtual world of internet, if conditions of accessibility are offered and this is mandatory for educational institutions like those evaluated in this study.

Abstract: We study a series of spectra measured in the superconducting state of optimally-doped Bi-2223 by scanning tunneling spectroscopy. Each spectrum, as well as the average of spectra presenting the same gap, is fitted using a strong-coupling model taking into account the band structure, the BCS gap, and the interaction of electrons with the spin resonance. After describing our measurements and the main characteristics of the strong-coupling model, we report the whole set of parameters determined from the fits, and we discuss trends as a function of the gap magnitude. We also simulate angle-resolved photoemission spectra, and compare with recent experimental results.

The leaves from Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni (Asteraceae) contain diterpenoid glycosides (GDS), which are almost 300 times sweeter than sucrose at 4%. The subject of this study was to evaluate the callus-formation from in vivo and in vitro leaves of Stevia rebaudiana in two already described in literature: Murashige and Skoog (MS) supplemented with 3 mg L-1 of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D); MS supplemented with 1 mg L-1 of naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and 0.5 mg L-1 of 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BAP) and other developed in our laboratory the Woody Plant Medium (WPM) with 6 mg L-1 of NAA and 4 mg L-1 of Kinetin (KIN). The explants obtained in vitro initiated callus formation faster than leaves from natural plants. The utilization of WPM nutrients, associated with an adequatecombination of phytoregulators, provided greater callus induction velocity and multiplication than the media that using MS nutrients. New experiments will be conducted after reaching genetic stability of the calluses, seeking to evaluate the capacity of these calluses to biosynthesize GDS.
