Abstract: the joint administration of the anti-hepatitis b gammaglobulin and the vaccine is worldwide recommended for the prevention of perinatal transmission to children from hbsag(+) mothers. as a preventive measure of transmission, passive-active immunization was evaluated after 3 days and at 7 and 18 months of life. eighty-seven sera from children from hbsag(+) mothers were studied; these sera were collected 3 days, and 7 and 18 months after birth, for a total amount of 261 samples. newborns were administered a dose of cuban human anti-hepatitis b immunoglobulin (ganmahep b) and a dose of the cuban recombinant vaccine heberbiovac-hb? before the first 12 hours after birth. afterwards, the vaccination scheme at months 1, 2, and 12 was followed. children were evaluated with hbsag and anti-hbs markers. at the third day, 8.0% of the children were hbsag(+); the 92.5% of hbsag(-) children turned out to be seroprotected. at 7 months of age, 1.1% was hbsag(+), seroprotection of hbsag(-) children was 89.5%. at 18 months of age, 3.4% was hbsag(+), with a 97.6% of protection of hbsag(-) children. the normoprotective response was predominant at the three periods of time, with statistically significant differences in seroprotection and titers =100 ui/l. geometric mean titer (gmt) values were 72.9 ui/l, 168.66 ui/l and 175.62 ui/l, respectively, with statistical significance among them. it is suggested that the use of ganmahep b, along with the administration of the cuban vaccine reduces the risk of hbv perinatal transmission and this is the first study carried out in cuba to evaluate the prophylactic efficacy within this risk group.
Plácido,Domingo;
Argos , 2009,
Abstract: the installation and consolidation of power structures in different historical societies comes about directly or indirectly; that is, through the use of force, or by encouraging apparently voluntary acceptance on behalf of the subjects. classical societies are, therefore, generated and understood through their own historical representation. this does not mean outright invention, but a much more complex process involving manipulation and reinterpretation in the pursuit of different goals.
Plácido,Domingo;

Abstract: motivated by the impetuous and efficient advance of the scientific development achieved by our country during the last years,a bibliographic review on the history and main aspects of biomedical research in human beigns was made. the requirement that the researchers should fulfill to conduct studies with the participation of different volunteer population groups were also explained. the author made a comment on his experience in the application of these requisites to clinical trials.

Heritage Library maintains in the Incunabula collection the first edition of the comedies of Aristophanes. BH INC I-327. It is known as Aldine Edition and was published in 1498 by the Venetian printer Aldus Manutius following the Greek writing in this time. This edition is indispensable for subsequent printed editions, and it is also essential for any study of Aristophanes' work. The Aristophanes' comedy provides the key to understand the Fifth Century in the Ancient Greece, the political process that took place in the Athens of Pericles. There is as well, a critical review of the later editions by this classical author available at the Heritage Library.

La peste, enfermedad infectocontagiosa reemergente Re-emergence of the plague: an infectious and contagious disease
Plague is a re-emergent infectious and contagious disease.
Abstract: The sense of the comic (humor) has been studied during several decades from a philosophical point of view, and a limited scientific research have been carried out on this subject. In the present article, philosophical and psychological approaches are compared, and the problem of the sense of the comic is analyzed from a research point of view. An investigation is carried out, in which 60 verbal and graphical stimuli, previously considered comical by a group of judges, are given to 300 primary school children, male and female, from 7 to 13 years of age. Indicators of having perceíved the comic aspect of the stimuli are categorized as smiling, giving verbal responses, and explaining why is the stimulus funny; the three categories indicate degrees of complexity. No sex differences were found. Differences ionterms of age, academic performance, and complexity of thinking processes are discussed, from the point of view of Piaget and cognitive psychology.
