Um balan?o da reforma psiquiátrica brasileira: institui??es, atores e políticas
Pitta,Ana Maria Fernandes;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232011001300002
Abstract: the article takes a look at brazilian psychiatric reform over the past decade, after the approval of federal law 10.216/2001 and seeks to elicit long overdue discussion about the pressing challenges that brazilian psychiatric reform needs to tackle to promote or review the long-desired utopia of "full citizenship for all in a society without asylums." is the reform showing signs of exhaustion? the redirection of the care model for mental health in brazil from the hospital to the community over the past decade is an undeniable achievement. taking the use of psychoactive substances as the scope of policy and intervention, this incorporates complex demands that the current crack drama makes it more urgent to question its history, its limits, its power. what will keep the flame alight of a successful movement that, surprisingly, has resisted the force of time and stigma in the ten years since the law was enacted? these and other questions need to be worked on. it is time to recycle the focus of assessment and analysis in order to identify what threatens its vitality. this is the challenge to which the writer and debaters will be enjoined to contribute.
A equa??o humana no cuidado à doen?a: o doente, seu cuidador e as organiza??es de saúde
Pitta, Ana Maria Fernandes;
Saúde e Sociedade , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-12901996000200004
Abstract: the union of the weak may be the strategy to face, on the one hand, the fear and hopelessness of the ill who daily seek for the care they need.lt may on the other hand be the form of facing the amazement and the shame with which many of the care providers recognize their debilities to make prevail a minimum of social solidarity in their health services so that the needs of both groups come together.the level of barbarism and structure disruption found today in our health system poses a challenge demanding courage and wisdom to redefine the elements of an equation where the sick and the caretakers can achieve a balance in which qualification and responsability in the care predominate. this is an open discussion, with the contribution of different disciplines that rather than being propositional intends to establish a deep reflection among those interested in bridging the theoretical and practical gaps in order to stimulate the good use of the resources to meet the demands of the health/sisease process.

Significant Pairwise Co-occurrence Patterns Are Not the Rule in the Majority of Biotic Communities

Diversity , 2012, DOI: 10.3390/d4020179
Abstract: Our aim was to investigate species co-occurrence patterns in a large number of published biotic communities, in order to document to what extent species associations can be found in presence-absence matrices. We also aim to compare and evaluate two metrics that focus on species pairs (the ‘natural’ and the ‘checkerboard’ metric) using also artificial matrices. We applied the two metrics to many data sets from a huge variety of insular systems around the world. Both metrics reliably recover deviating species pairs and provide similar, albeit not identical, results. Nevertheless, only a few matrices exhibit significant deviations from random patterns, mostly vertebrates and higher plants. The benchmark cases cited in literature in favor of such assembly rules are indeed included in these exceptional cases. In conclusion, competitive or cooperative species interactions shaping communities cannot be inferred from patterns exhibited by presence-absence matrices. When such an analysis is attempted though, both the ‘natural’ and the ‘checkerboard’ metric should be set in a proper framework in order to provide useful insights regarding species associations. A large part of the discussion on species co-occurrence had originally been based on a few exceptional data sets that are not indicative of general patterns.

Abstract: usually, heavy metals occurrence in aquatic systems is resulting from natural geochemical processes. however, the presence of these chemical elements has considerably increased in the last decades . an example is the case of the cubat?o river basin caused by human activities in that region. in this work, a quantitative analysis of pb, cd, cr, zn, and cu content of four blue crab species of the genus callinectes sp., sampled along the cubat?o river, was carried out using a flame atomic absorption spectrometer (faas). 144 blue crab samples from the following species were analyzed: c. danae (63%), c. sapidus (23%), c. bocourti (10.5%), and c. ornatus (3.5%). the c. sapidus species presented the highest concentration levels for the studied metals. with the exception of cu, for which the average concentration was 40% higher for the females (p < 0,05), there was no significant variation in the heavy metal content regarding sex and the size of the animals. except for cr, for which the average values interval obtained for the 4 species was above the limit allowed by the brazilian legislation for any type of food, all the other results were below the maximum values recommended by health agencies.
A constitutional analysis of the right of action in the brazilian civil suit Uma análise constitucional do direito de a o no processo civil brasileiro
Márcia Regina Pitta Lopes Aquino
Scientia Iuris , 2006,
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to analyze the right of action in the Brazilian Civil Suit according to the Federal Constitution. This research highlights the crisis that the State, the Law and the Juridical Science have gone through go mainly after World War II. Proceduralism and substantialism are addressed in regard to their fundamental aspects as well as the existent dilemma between juridical positivism and jusnaturalism. Based on the theories that encompass the “third way”, this work attempts to show the importance of certain procedures for realizing values of constitutional principles that permeate the whole juridical order. It is concluded that the process is not only an instrument but also a dimension of law itself. The right of action as expressed in art. 5, Chapter XXXV of the Federal Constitution is eminently procedural and should be undertood as a right to process.
