Abstract: the objective of this work was to identify, qualify and quantify the intensity of damage from natural causes and forest harvest in a non-exploited old growth forest (fpne) and in a harvested old growth forest (fpe). the studied area is located in the counties of manicoré, amazon, brazil, with an area of 204 ha of fpne and 202 ha of fpe, respectively. the inventory was carried out applying the randomized sampling method, in both areas. sampling collection was carried out in two levels of approach. in level i, five plots of 100 x 100 m (1 ha) were established, and the individuals with dbh 3 15 cm were evaluated. in level ii, the plots of level i were systematically subdivided in subplots of 10 x 10 m (100 m2), being randomly sampled only five of these per plot of level i, with an area of 2,500 m2, where all the individuals between 5.0 £ dbh < 15 cm (large samplings) were evaluated. the assessment of damage caused to the remaining trees indicate that only 10% of the adult vegetation presented damages in the non-exploited forest. in the exploited forest, the damage caused by harvest operations, such as felling log extraction, skidding trails and clearcut, was of 29%. the changes in the structures of volume, basal area and diameter were more evident in the greater diameter classes, where reductions of 30%, 29% and 27%, occurred respectively. nevertheless, this reduction can be considered normal, since the sampling was collected immediately after forest harvest operations.

Abstract: ten popcorn populations (pr 038, pr 079, rr 046, sc 016, pr 017, brs angela, sc 002, pr 009, pr 023 and se 013) were evaluated to estimate inbreeding depression and average genetic components. the experiment was a split plot in a randomized complete block design with three replications. the plots were the inbreeding levels (s1 and s0) and the sub-plots were the populations in two locations (maringá and iguatemi-pr) during the 2001/2002 grown season. plant and ear height, grain yield and popping expansion were evaluated. it was observed lower values of inbreeding depression and predominance of additive effects for popping expansion in relation to yield. the sucess of getting high popping expansion inbred lines is higher with brs angela and sc 002 populations.

Abstract: polygalacturonase production by thermophilic bacillus sp strain smia-2 cultivated in liquid media containing citrus pectin as a carbon source reached the maximum activity at 30 hour with levels of 42 iu.ml-1. among the various organic and inorganic nitrogen sources, ammonium sulphate was found to be the best for the enzyme secretion. an increase in the citrus pectin concentration in the medium of more than 0.5% did not enhance enzyme synthesis. the microorganism was capable of utilizing a wide range of carbon sources, but the activity of poligalacturonase varied depending on the carbon source. apple's pectin was the best carbon source in the present study for polygalacturonase secretion (56 iu.ml-1) while fructose and maltose were not very effective. rafinose and glucose inhibited the enzyme synthesis. studies on the polygalacturonase characterization revealed that the optimum temperature of this enzyme was 70 oc and that it maintained 62 and 58% of its activity when incubated at 40 oc and 90 oc for 2 hour, respectively. the optimum ph of the enzyme was found to be 7.0. the enzyme maintained 90% and 75% of its maximal activity when incubated at ph 8.0 and 8.5 for 24 hour at room temperature, respectively. the enzyme activity was enhanced in the presence of mg2+ and zn2+. on the other hand, the activity was inhibited in the presence of cs+2, hg+2, li+2 and sr+2.

Abstract This study sought to revisit the two conceptions of art - and reflective teaching - forged over history and his relationship with Brazilian aesthetic thought of resistance. From the 60's, such thinking pedagogy attribute fidelity to art, inserting the critical task of social and human emancipatory politics of participation: In this scenario highlighted the Theatre of the Oppressed, the New Movies and music of protest Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento, among others.

Abstract: perceived exertion (pe) is defined by robertson and noble(1) as the subjective intensity of effort, strain, discomfort and/or fatigue experienced during both aerobic and resistance exercise. its application is fairly wide and has as main focus the measurement of physical exertion. the same neuro-physiological pattern, through the integration of feedforward-feedback commands could explain pe(2). different scales (rpe, cr10, vas, omni) were developed and have been applied in studies that investigated different exercises and populations, showing high correlations with important physiological variables. several studies have been developed, especially in the last decade, in order to verify the pe behavior concerning different variables of the strength training (st). regarding the load variable, the results showed that higher loads produce greater pe, even when different volumes or number of repetitions are used, with high and significant correlations between pe and different loads. maximum efforts (repetition maximum) cause a similar pe, regardless of the number of repetitions. moreover, the higher the load used, the lower the responses variability of the pe among subjects. pe increases according to the number of repetitions performed in the sets for the same load, with no differences in pe being shown between men and women. further st variables must be investigated and it is not possible to provide conclusive data on the pe performance when these variables are evaluated. however, the studies presented until the present moment, have indicated that eccentric contractions and higher performance speeds indicate lower pe, while order, amount and type of exercises show little or no influence. further studies should be conducted about the trainability status of the subjects, and contradictory data were found so far by the literature. possibly, the major difficulty of these studies is not the pe application per se, but the isolation of each st variable. as long as protocols sim
