An Analysis of Factors Influencing the Self-Rated Health of Elderly Chinese People  [PDF]

This study used the data from the Chinese Urban and Rural Elderly Population Survey to analyze the correlations among the self-rated health of elderly Chinese people, demographic factors and chronic diseases. The results revealed that in comparing younger elderly individuals vs older elderly individuals, the urban elderly vs rural elderly, elderly man vs elderly women, and the elderly with fewer chronic diseases vs the elderly with more chronic diseases, the former’s self-rated health tended to be good, while the latter tended to be bad. In addition, over time, elderly individuals’ self-rated health tended to improve. This paper further studied high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, neck and lumbar disease, and chronic bronchitis and the impact of these five common chronic diseases on self-rated health. The results showed that, among these five types of chronic diseases, the impacts of heart disease and chronic bronchitis were greater than those of the other three chronic diseases.?

Power Law for the Rates of Different Numbers of Chronic Diseases among Elderly Chinese People  [PDF]

Abstract: Chronic disease is an important factor that affect the health of elderly people. We analyzed the 2006 and 2010 data from the Chinese Urban and Rural Elderly Population Surveys, which are nationally representative surveys of elderly people aged 60 years and above. We found that there existed a typical power-law distribution for the rates of different numbers of chronic diseases among elderly Chinese people. A Kolmogorov-Smirnov test indicated that the result was robust, and the power exponents were approximately ?2.5. In addition, a paired t-test was conducted, which demonstrated that the rates of different numbers of chronic diseases did not have significant urban-rural differences, time differences or gender differences.
New Characteristics of Active Life Expectancy of the Elderly in China  [PDF]

Abstract: Life expectancy of the elderly is a significant problem in China, and it changes not only the health care, but also the pension. This study used tracking data from the Chinese Urban and Rural Elderly Population Survey to calculate the age-specific Active Life Expectancy (ALE) of the Chinese elderly population aged 60 years and over. For analysis, this population was divided into different sub-populations according to gender, census register and region. The main conclusions of our study are as follows: 1) The quality of life for elderly males may be greater than that for elderly females; 2) There were significant differences in Active Life Expectancy (ALE) and Inactive Life Expectancy (ILE) between urban and rural elderly; 3) The differences in ALE between the eastern, central and western regions of China were not significant; and 4) The increased remaining life expectancy of the elderly was mainly attributed to the extended ALE in the lower age group and the expanded ILE in the higher age group. This study expands the knowledge of Chinese elderly’s life expectancy in different health status.
HSP47 Deletion Inhibits TGF-β1 Stimulation on Proliferation and Collagen Synthesis of Human Tenon Fibroblasts  [PDF]

Abstract: Heat shock protein 47 (HSP47) is a collagen-specific molecular chaperone that is required for mo-lecular maturation of various types of collagens. Many studies have shown a close association be-tween increased expression of HSP47 and excessive accumulation of collagens in scar tissues of various human fibrotic diseases. However, the role of HSP47 in formation of scar after glaucoma filtration surgery is still unclear. In this study, we deleted the expression of HSP47 in human tent on fibroblasts (HTFs) by virus infection, and then the proliferation and collagen synthesis were compared between HSP47 deletion cells and control upon TGF-β1 stimulation. Our data showed that HSP47 deletion could significantly inhibit the proliferation and collagen synthesis of HTFs upon TGF-β1 stimulation, HSP47 gene suppression might be a novel method to against the formation of scar after glaucoma surgery.
G Protein-Coupled Estrogen Receptor Is a Critical Regulator in Metastasis of Breast Cancer Cells  [PDF]

Abstract: Estrogen signaling via GPER in breast cancers has been intensively discussed over years, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains to be fully elucidated, especially for the transcriptional profiles of the GPER under estrogen stimulation. In this study, we evaluated the potential role GPER in regulating invasion of metastatic breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 via transcriptional way. First, with primary breast cancer tissue samples, we found that the expression of GPER significantly coordinated with another membrane receptor-CXCR1. Besides, the expression level of these two proteins was associated with the development of the primary breast cancers. Second, to dissect the cross talk between GPER and CXCR1, we further our studies to detect the activation of ERK, Akt and transcriptional factor NF-kB. We found that upon estrogen stimulation, the phosphorylation level of ERK and Akt were rapidly increased and then resulted in the activation and nucleus translocation of NF-kB. When we considered the sub-sequence of the NF-kB activation, we found the autocrine of IL-8 was boosted by stimulation of the estrogen and followed by the promoted invasion of the MDA-MB-231 cells. In conclusion, our data demonstrated the estrogen-mediated GPER stimulation would regulate the invasive activities of metastatic breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 coupled with another membrane receptor CXCR1 via transcriptional pathway, the cross talk between GPER and CXCR1 may be another target for breast cancer therapies.
The Different Effect of R and S Albuterol on Proliferation and Migration of Airway Smooth Muscle Cells  [PDF]

Abstract: studies have shown that the R- and S-enantiomers of racemic albuterol, a β2-adrenergic receptor agonist used in asthma treatment, have differential effects on the contractile properties of airway smooth muscle. However, the effect of albuterol on the proliferation and migration has never been tested. Since (R)-, but not (S)-albuterol enhances bronchodilation, we expect the two racemic isomers would also affect proliferation and migration of tracheal cells differentially. By monitoring migratory properties of airway smooth muscle cells in the presence of albuterol isomers, the different effect of albuterol on proliferation and migration of airway smooth muscle cells is probed. The results show Both of R- and S-albuterol could inhibit the proliferation of smooth muscle cells and the inhibition ratio of these two isomers had no significant difference; R-albuterol, but not S-albuterol, inhibited cell migration.

Abstract: In this paper, the random Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation with additive noise is studied numerically, using the finite difference method to simulate the effect of different amplitude of noise on the solitary wave. And numerical experiments show that the white noise does not affect the propagation of the solitary wave, but can increase the amplitude of the solitary wave.
An experiment study of lee vortex with large topography forcing

Abstract: This paper, relates the lee vortex which is triggered when the rotating and stratified flow passes over the large obstacle by using towing tank and based on the similarity. The results show that Froude number Fr is the most important parameter, and, in the rotating case, the lee vortex is easily triggered, because the rotating may, on one hand, lead to downward flow, on the other hand, induce lee vortex through generating geostrophic vorticity. Even in the non-rotating case, the lee vortex can be still formed, as long as both Froude number Fr and stratification parameter N are appropriate. For the formation mechanism of the lee vortex, there are obvious differences in the rotating case compared with the non-rotating case. In the non-rotating case, the tilting term of the perturbation vorticity is a dominant factor of inducing the lee vortex. However, in the rotating case, effect and the convergence of perturbation vorticity are dominant factors.

Abstract: Based on relative fresh foreign and domestic scientific research results about intelligent apparatus and instruments, we adopt SCM to be the main controller of the meter, utilize former DA-16 low frequency MV-meter, realize the improvement of the DA-16 low frequency MV-meter under the premise that doesn’t change its work principle, and transforms the needle output of the MV-meter to digital display. The improvement of MV-meter acquires large advancements in many aspects such as the automatization of measurement process, the data processing of measurement result and the display precision, and the improved MV-meter can not only enhance the reading precision, but fully reduce the reading time, and its use is more convenient and simple in the experiment.
