Pierre Brunet
In Situ : Revue de Patrimoines , 2012, DOI: 10.4000/insitu.2545
Both in bocage country and in open-field country, the study of the ways buildings are set in the landscape and the ways they are disposed on the plot of property is essential for the correct understanding of rural architecture. More than in earlier periods, the last fifty years have seen the disappearance or the transformation of many buildings and structures, profoundly changing the relation between architecture and the environment.
Brunet, Sébastien;Delvenne, Pierre;Joris, Geoffrey;
Sociologias , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-45222011000100008
Abstract: the precautionary principle falls under a decisional context in evolution, marked by a multidimensional uncertainty as for environmental, economic, social, political or ethical consequences of the technological innovations. in french-speaking political science, it is understood as a strategic tool, a political response to the emergence of a new flow of societal uncertainty, mainly directed towards the hesitations of the scientific world. we argue that the precautionary principle redefines the way to manage scientific uncertainty in a society characterized by the blurring of the borders between political and subpolitical actors. around its application, a line of fracture is drawn, which reduces the decisional breathing space of certain subpolitical entities and/or encourages others to act more.
Topographie et topologie textuelles

Lexicometrica , 2009,
Friend or Foe? Early Social Evaluation of Human Interactions

PLOS ONE , 2014, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0088612
Abstract: We report evidence that 29-month-old toddlers and 10-month-old preverbal infants discriminate between two agents: a pro-social agent, who performs a positive (comforting) action on a human patient and a negative (harmful) action on an inanimate object, and an anti-social agent, who does the converse. The evidence shows that they prefer the former to the latter even though the agents perform the same bodily movements. Given that humans can cause physical harm to their conspecifics, we discuss this finding in light of the likely adaptive value of the ability to detect harmful human agents.
Universality of Tip Singularity Formation in Freezing Water Drops
Alvaro G. Marin,Oscar R. Enriquez,Philipe Brunet,Pierre Colinet,Jacco H. Snoeijer
Physics , 2014, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.113.054301
Abstract: A drop of water deposited on a cold plate freezes into an ice drop with a pointy tip. While this phenomenon clearly finds its origin in the expansion of water upon freezing, a quantitative description of the tip singularity has remained elusive. Here we demonstrate how the geometry of the freezing front, determined by heat transfer considerations, is crucial for the tip formation. We perform systematic measurements of the angles of the conical tip, and reveal the dynamics of the solidification front in a Hele-Shaw geometry. It is found that the cone angle is independent of substrate temperature and wetting angle, suggesting a universal, self-similar mechanism that does not depend on the rate of solidification. We propose a model for the freezing front and derive resulting tip angles analytically, in good agreement with observations.
Glutathione S-transferase M1 null genotype: lack of association with tumour characteristics and survival in advanced breast cancer

Breast Cancer Research , 1999, DOI: 10.1186/bcr17
Abstract: To determine whether GSTM1 polymorphisms are associated with tumour characteristics and survival in advanced breast cancer patients, and whether it may constitute a prognostic factor. We genotyped 92 patients receiving primary chemotherapy, which included cyclophosphamide, doxorubicine and 5-fluorouracil. The relationships between allelism at GSTM1 and clinicopathological parameters including age, menopausal status, tumour size, grade hormone receptors, involved nodes and p53 gene mutations were analysed. Of the patients with GSTM1-positive genotype, tissue samples obtained before and after treatment were available from 28 cases, allowing RNA extraction and GSTM1 expression by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Relationships with clinical response to chemotherapy, and disease-free and overall survival were also evaluated. The data obtained was analysed using logistic regression to estimate the odds ratio and 95% confidence interval.Of 92 patients, 57.6% (n = 53) were classified as heritably GSTM1-deficient, and 42.4% (n = 39) were of the GSTM1-positive genotype. There were no statistically significant relationships between GSTM1-null genotype and the clinicopathological parameters analysed. No relationship was observed between GSTM1 RNA expression and objective clinical response to chemotherapy. Objective clinical response to chemotherapy was related only to clinical tumour size (P = 0.0177) and to the absence of intraductal carcinoma (P = 0.0013). GSTM1-null genotype had no effect on disease-free or overall survival. The absence of hormone receptors (P = 0.002), the presence of a mutated p53 gene (P = 0.0098) and lack of response to primary chemotherapy (P = 0.0086) were the only factors associated with reduced disease-free or overall survival.GSTM1-null genotype alone had no effect on tumour characteristics and outcome of patients with advanced breast cancers. The lack of correlation of GSTM1 genotype with clinical tumour features, clinical response t

A pertinent analytic method to correctly measure contributions to growth in gross domestic product
Brunet Antoine
Panoeconomicus , 2009, DOI: 10.2298/pan0903397b
Abstract: In this paper, Antoine Brunet questions the OECD method in calculating contributions to GDP growth. He tries to show this method induces the users to seriously misjudge the contribution of external trade balance to GDP growth. He shows there is an alternative method, i.e. the AB method which is mathematically as correct as the OECD one. And this method is much more pertinent and allows the users to distinguish between two kinds of countries: on the one hand, the mercantilist countries and on the other hand, the non-mercantilist countries.
Roger Brunet
M@ppemonde , 2005,
Abstract: Very early on, the diamond industry formed a culturally uniform global monopoly, run by De Beers. But gradually new factors emerged, which it was unable to fully control: advances in synthetic diamond production; the geographical diversification of mining, trading and cutting; the intrusion of powerful mining companies and determined actors from outside the system; a loss of image for diamonds as a result of bloody conflict and trafficking in Africa; and changing techniques and consumer behaviour. Since 2002 De Beers has had to completely change strategy. The diamond industry is more globalised than before, but diversified and polycentric.

This study investigated the contribution of prevention organizations’ practices to research into the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). In general, the gathering of critical information regarding prevention interventions is the result of both applied and action research. However, is this produced and necessary information sufficient to meet the requirements of the participants’ practices, in particular those of prevention organizations ? The author proposes some benchmarks to alert the scientific community to the methodological impasses and limitations of the areas of research. In particular, he questions :1. the work requested in relation to the institutional demands2. the methods used to follow the intervention over its duration3. the absence of small businesses and networks in the choice of areas of research. In view of the difficulties in controlling the evolution of the MSD phenomenon, the experience of prevention organizations may be a valuable information resource for research. Agreeing on conditions so that practitioners participate in this research effort is therefore a major challenge.
