Alcune riflessioni sulle trasformazioni in atto nella città storica Considerations on urban transformation of the historic city

Ceramic materials lead to underestimated DNA quantifications: a method for reliable measurements
E Piccinini
European Cells and Materials (ECM) , 2010,
Abstract: In the context of investigating cell-material interactions or of material-guided generation of tissues, DNA quantification represents an elective method to precisely assess the number of cells attached or embedded within different substrates.Nonetheless, nucleic acids are known to electrostatically bind to ceramics, a class of materials commonly employed in orthopaedic implants and bone tissue engineering scaffolds. This phenomenon is expected to lead to a relevant underestimation of the DNA amount, resulting in erroneous experimental readouts. The present work aims at (i) investigating the effects of DNA-ceramic bond occurrence on DNA quantification, and (ii) developing a method to reliably extract and accurately quantify DNA in ceramic-containing specimens.A cell-free model was adopted to study DNA-ceramic binding, highlighting an evident DNA loss (up to 90%) over a wide range of DNA/ceramic ratios (w/w). A phosphate buffer-based (800mM) enzymatic extraction protocol was developed and its efficacy in terms of reliable DNA extraction and measurement was confirmed with commonly used fluorometric assays, for various ceramic substrates. The proposed buffered DNA extraction technique was validated in a cell-based experiment showing 95% DNA retrieval in a cell seeding experiment, demonstrating a 3.5-fold increase in measured DNA amount as compared to a conventional enzymatic extraction protocol.In conclusion, the proposed phosphate buffer method consistently improves the DNA extraction process assuring unbiased analysis of samples and allowing accurate and sensitive cell number quantification on ceramic containing substrates.
Electroweak Physics in Six-Fermion Processes at Future Colliders
F. Piccinini
Physics , 2000, DOI: 10.1016/S0920-5632(00)00818-5
Abstract: Recent developments in the field of complete electroweak tree-level calculations for six-fermion final states in e+ e- collisions are briefly reviewed. Particular attention is given to top-quark and Higgs boson physics, which are items of primary importance at the Next Linear Collider. The relevance of electroweak backgrounds and finite-width effects is discussed, showing the importance of complete calculations for precision studies at the colliders operating in the TeV energy range.
O discurso sobre a consciência em memoriais de educadores ambientais
Piccinini, Cláudia Lino;
Ciência & Educa??o (Bauru) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-73132011000300010
Abstract: taking as a starting point research that examined the training paths and professional performance of a group of environmental educators, narrative aspects i have denominated 'the discourse of conscience' called our attention. working from the autobiographical memorials of these educators, and with the theoretical and methodological theory of enunciation of bakhtin (1986 and 2003), it was clear that the view was not appear as class conscious, but mostly as naive consciousness, mixed with the desire to contribute to the changes of the social-environmental contradictions of capitalism, without assuming a role of confrontation to the dominant ideology.
Cooperativas de trabalho de Porto Alegre e flexibiliza??o do trabalho
Piccinini, Valmiria Carolina;
Sociologias , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-45222004000200004
Abstract: this article attempts to verify the meaning of work co-operatives in the process of productive restructuring and labor flexibilization within brazilian economy, especially in the southern state of rio grande do sul. a research study has been conducted in co-operatives in the city of porto alegre, investigating labor flexibilization, quality if life, and employability. valorization of co-operative ideals and concern for the quality of life of members has been found. those co-operatives, however, struggle against problems resulting from competition by "fa?ade" co-operatives, legislation seen as restrictive, and the fact that those who hire their services seek the lowest costs. a large part is composed of low-training workers who find an alternative to unemployment in co-operative work. even as they point out the problem with this kind of organization, they see it as a solution to the economic crisis and a way to remain in the job market. three case studies have been carried out later on porto alegre co-operatives and compared. since they are co-operatives with distinct levels of training among their members, prospects and expectation are quite different.
Cooperativas de trabalho de Porto Alegre e flexibiliza o do trabalho
Piccinini Valmiria Carolina
Sociologias , 2004,

The ideal relativistic spinning gas: polarization and spectra
F. Becattini,F. Piccinini
Physics , 2007, DOI: 10.1016/j.aop.2008.01.001
Abstract: We study the physics of the ideal relativistic rotating gas at thermodynamical equilibrium and provide analytical expressions of the momentum spectra and polarization vector for the case of massive particles with spin 1/2 and 1. We show that the finite angular momentum J entails an anisotropy in momentum spectra, with particles emitted orthogonally to J having, on average, a larger momentum than along its direction. Unlike in the non-relativistic case, the proper polarization vector turns out not to be aligned with the total angular momentum with a non-trivial momentum dependence.
Theoretical developments on Quartic Gauge Boson Couplings at LEP
M. Osmo,F. Piccinini
Physics , 2001,
Abstract: The search for quartic anomalous gauge couplings (QAGC) at LEP requires appropriate predictions for the radiative processes e+ e- \to \nu\bar\nu \gamma\gamma, e+ e- \to q\bar{q}\gamma\gamma and e+ e- \to 4 fermions+\gamma. The current knowledge on dimension-six operators giving rise to QAGC is briefly reviewed, together with their implementation in event generators. The accuracy of calculations based on real approximations (used up to now for the LEP experimental analysis) is examined by comparing them with the available exact matrix element calculations.
