Wave Equation Simulation Using a Compressed Modeler  [PDF]
Victor Pereyra
American Journal of Computational Mathematics (AJCM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajcm.2013.33033
Abstract:

Repeated simulations of large scale wave propagation problems are prevalent in many fields. In oil exploration earth imaging problems, the use of full wave simulations is becoming routine and it is only hampered by the extreme computational resources required. In this contribution, we explore the feasibility of employing reduced-order modeling techniques in an attempt to significantly decrease the cost of these calculations. We consider the acoustic wave equation in two-dimensions for simplicity, but the extension to three-dimensions and to elastic or even anysotropic problems is clear. We use the proper orthogonal decomposition approach to model order reduction and describe two algorithms: the traditional one using the SVD of the matrix of snapshots and a more economical and flexible one using a progressive QR decomposition. We include also two a posteriori error estimation procedures and extensive testing and validation is presented that indicates the promise of the approach.

One step a-Si: H TFT'S with PECVD SiOxNy gate insulator
Albertin, K.F;Pereyra, I;
Revista mexicana de física , 2006,
Abstract: amorphous silicon thin film transistors (tft's), utilizing silicon dioxide (sio2), silicon oxynitride (sioxny) and silicon nitride (si3n4) obtained by pecvd as gate insulating material, are fabricated through just one masking process and characterized by drain current vs drain voltage and by drain current vs gate voltage (ids vs. vds and ids vs. vgs) measurements.

Abstract: the objective of the current study is to determine the impact of the use of information and communication technologies (icts) to teach and learn in engineering. it is analyzed how teaching strategies that involve technological resources foster comprehensible learning of the contents of physics. this research serves to explore an experience with students of ?physics i? of the facultad de ingeniería y ciencias económico-sociales, universidad nacional de san luis (unsl) in an environment where new technologies have been applied to facilitate the learning process. as a conclusion, the study aims at analyzing the use of technological resources as part of certain teaching strategies in face to face environments and their impact in understanding kinematics graphs. these physical phenomena are represented integrating images and experiences in real time.

Brazilian Journal of Physics , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-97332002000200033
Abstract: in this work we study the structural properties of amorphous oxynitride films (a-sioxny), grown by plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (pecvd)at 320° c. the films were deposited at different ow ratio of n2o and sih4. the atomic composition of the samples was determined by means of rutherford backscattering spectrometry (rbs). the local order structure was studied by x-ray absorption spectroscopy (xas) and the chemical bondings were investigated by fourier transform infrared (ftir) spectroscopy. the results evidence a tetrahedric arrangement of the oxynitride network. the tetrahedrons are similiar to sio3n for x values between 1.43 and 1.64. for x values higher than 1.64 the tetrahedrons are similar to sio4.

Heterogeneidad, improductividad y ocio
Pereyra, Guillermo;
Andamios , 2007,
Abstract: globalization is very complex in socio-economic terms, with forms of cooperative organization that include a lot of unemployed people, poor people and "new poor people". in other words, we are faced with a socio-economic heterogeneity that cannot easily be processed by the present institutions. in this context a paradox emerges: although the notions of productivity and social cooperation continue being fundamental in the organization of contemporary socio-economic institutions, their dislocation is increasingly visible as a result of the increase of unemployment and leisure time, that is to say, of unproductiveness. this essay investigates this paradox focusing the relations that marxist and liberal theories establish between social cooperation, productivity and leisure.
El nuevo institucionalismo y la concepción representacionalista de la política
Pereyra, Guillermo;
Perfiles latinoamericanos , 2009,
Abstract: the main objective of this paper is to offer a critique of the representationalist assumptions of some of the neoinstitutionalist studies. two fundamental theses are upheld: 1) the institutionalist model of democracy's critique of the notion of popular sovereignty does not take into consideration that the people is a political category which shows the constituitive failure of any representation; 2) the new institutionalism theory, and in particular from its historical-sociological perspective, is based on the representationalist assumption that there is something previous to politics in society, and culture that must be faithfully represented by the institutions to avoid disorder.

El acceso desigual a los derechos laborales en el servicio doméstico argentino: una aproximación desde la óptica de las empleadoras
Francisca Pereyra
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2013,
Abstract: Domestic work in Argentina-as in Latin America in general-is one of the main sources of employment for low-income women, as well as one of the most unprotected types of occupation. On one hand, the regulation of this type of work is based on a special regime that implies substantially restricted rights when compared to those of the general legislation for salaried workers. On the other hand, despite the restricted rights of this occupation, employers' low levels of compliance are alarming. In this context, any attempt to improve these workers' situation requires measures aimed to change employers' behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to expand existing knowledge regarding the perceptions and conduct of those who hire these services. This exploratory piece of work is centered on the point of view of female employers -usually the ones responsible for the daily management of this type of work. The purpose is to look in depth at the discourse and practices related to this kind of work as an occupation, its workers as employees as well as this sector's rights and labor conditions.
Límites y posibilidades del discurso populista
Guillermo Pereyra
Utopia y Praxis Latinoamericana , 2012,
