Abstract: the term "therapeutic alliance", employed more and more frequently in psychoanalytic literature, is usually compared, albeit erroneously, to positive transference or regarded as the opposite of negative transference. it is, however, a term with significant specificities. the present study aims to deal with theoretical aspects of the therapeutic alliance and to discuss its handling in the context of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. to this end, the present study involves a bibliographical review and a discussion of a clinical case. the bibliographical review supports the understanding of therapeutic alliance as a work relationship, influenced by both conscious elements and unconscious content, which is established between patient and psychotherapist in support of the psychotherapeutic process. the clinical case discussion emphasizes the role of the psychotherapist: comprehensive listening, friendly attitude,explanatory activity, synthetic function and reflexive posture to promote and sustain the therapeutic alliance.

Paidéia (Ribeir?o Preto) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-863X2011000300008
Abstract: “pro-anorexia” virtual environments, which focus on the promotion and perpetuation of this disorder, have proliferated on the internet around the world. this paper presents a psychoanalytic view on virtual communities of this nature. this is a documentary study with a qualitative and naturalistic approach. the descriptions of ten brazilian “pro-anorexia” virtual communities were submitted to descriptive and exploratory analyses. these analyses show that the denial of the psychopathological nature of the disorder and the refusal of one’s own femininity promote the anorexic behavior. a tendency to personify anorexia nervosa was observed, which indicates an important narcissistic fragility. thus, we consider appropriate to align anorexia nervosa to the nosological concept of mental emptiness, a pathological condition potentiated by the current society. therefore, we believe that from the perspective of anorexia nervosa, the dictates of cultural repression promote a kind of transposition from mental emptiness to body emptiness.

Peres, Rodrigo Sanches;Santos, Manoel Ant?nio dos;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692007000700012
Abstract: this study aimed to analyze the emotional response of a low-income group of women to the breast cancer. the sample was composed by 15 patients from a mastectomized women's support entity. data were collected through individual face-to-face semi-structured interview. the results were appraised according to a classification system that postulates the existence of four categories mutually excluding: denial, stoicism, affliction and confrontation. the results obtained indicate that stoicism was the more frequent emotional response in the evaluated group. the scientific literature shows that stoicism can contribute to the temporary reduction of stress, but it gradually leads to a uselessness feeling which tends to make difficult the psychosocial adjustment to the disease and its treatment.
