Abstract: This issue opens the fourth volume of the Intangible Capital journal, which makes its way towards the fifth year of publication. As usually, we start this volume by evaluating the previous one and tracing new directions. Among the main contributions during the year 2007, we consider important to highlight the following aspects: the renewal of the scientific indexation agreements, the platform change to OJS, the appointment of a new editor, new members included in the editorial board, the board of reviewers, the change towards a bilingual model, the new financing obtained and, the last but not the least, the work undertaken together with many scientific editors of open access Spanish journals for obtaining the positive evaluation of the CNEAI (National Commission for the Evaluation of the Research Activity) and thus, being a proof of scientific excellence.

Pep Simo,Jose M. Sallan
Intangible Capital , 2010, DOI: 10.3926/ic.212
Abstract: This editorial examines the actions undertaken in number 5 and announces two important changes for the numbers 6 and 7, namely frequency and languages. Furthermore, the use of some bibliometric indicators, such as impact factor and refusal rate, is critically analyzed.
Organizational commitment, job satisfaction and intention to leave: A comparative analysis between part-time and full-time faculties Compromiso organizativo, satisfacción con el trabajo e intención de abandonar la organización: Análisis comparativo entre el profesorado universitario a tiempo parcial y a tiempo completo.
Pep Simo,Jose M Sallan,Vicen? Fernandez
Education Policy Analysis Archives , 2008,
Abstract: The importance of part-time work has been growing in recent years, due to its significant increase in today's societies, and higher education institutions have not been alien to this trend. The present research tries to study the relationship between organizational commitment and job satisfaction with the intention to leave the institution, comparing part-time and full-time faculty. An empirical research, grounded in the model proposed by Currivan (1999), has been undertaken, with a sample of faculty of ETSEIAT, a college of the Technical University of Catalonia. Results show the existence of the relationships with organizational commitment, job satisfaction and intention to leave predicted in the literature, and significant differences in job satisfaction and organizational commitment between part-time and full-time faculty. The paper ends with some proposals of further research.

Edna Bravo, Mihaela Enache, Vicenc Fernandez, Pep Simo
World Journal on Educational Technology , 2010,
Abstract: The purpose of this preliminary study was to qualitatively explore the results of using low-cost educational videos, oriented at complementing face-to-face and distance courses of the Degrees in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Organization and Aeronautical Engineering at ETSEIAT (Technical School of Industrial Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering of Terrassa). Qualitative analyses showed that the use of innovative teaching practices enhances students ‘motivation, promotes dynamism in the classroom, improves students’ self-learning and increases the perceived efficiency of the learning and teaching processes, without substantially raising costs.
From the Editors: The present and future of the scientific communication system Presente y futuro del sistema de comunicación científica
Jose Maria Sallan,Pep Simo,Mercedes Garcia-Parra
Intangible Capital , 2007, DOI: 10.3926/ic.51
Abstract: Scientific progress today is a collective task. Faculty working in different institutions collaborate, directly or using extant research published by their colleagues, on the development of the body of knowledge of a scientific paradigm. The scientific communication system (SCS) allows that invisible college to communicate; therefore we consider it a cornerstone of the research system, and a key resource for the advance of science. In that editorial note we show the main threats for the future of the SCM. We describe the evolution of the roles of the main agents involved: publishers, academics, suppliers of bibliometric information and the public sector. We argue that initiatives such as SPARC or the creation of open access journals can contribute to the development of an effective SCS in the future.
