On the Relationship between Equality and Efficiency

Abstract: The established theory of equality and efficiency implies that the two are in an unconditional negative correlation. According to this hypothesis and by setting up a simple model, the paper aims to prove the following propositions: Even if not considering the inequality of opportunity, only unequal results will have a double-edged effect on efficiency, either positive or negative. However, the final results attained from the positive and negative functions are not always favorable for efficiency. Only when stimulating effects surpass the undermining ones, can we raise efficiency through increasing inequality index or sacrificing certain equality. Therefore, under some circumstances, the tradeoff between equality and efficiency does not exist. Research on an Improved Scalable Video Coding and the Network Transmission

Abstract: An improved scalable video coding scheme is proposed in this paper. The method generates the base layer including some sub-base layers by DCT coefficients reordering and VLC reshuffling, and the residues between the original DCT coefficients and the reconstructed DCT coefficients of the base layer are encoded in the enhancement layer with bit-plane coding technology. To transmit the layered streaming video generated by the proposed scheme over the IP network, an Adaptive Unequal Packet Loss Protect (AUPLP) strategy is designed to determine the current available network bandwidth and adjust sending rates according to different situation. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can improve the average coding efficiency up to 1.2dB compared with conventional methods in low bandwidth, and the AUPLP strategy can further improve the performances of video network transmission system.
Adaptive projective synchronization of different chaotic systems with nonlinearity inputs

Abstract: We investigate the projective synchronization of different chaotic systems with nonlinearity inputs. Based on the adaptive technique, sliding mode control method and pole assignment technique, a novel adaptive projective synchronization scheme is proposed to ensure the drive system and the response system with nonlinearity inputs can be rapidly synchronized up to the given scaling factor.
Research on Technology Spillover’s Bridge Effect between Bidirectional FDI and GVC Position—A Case of Chinese Manufacturing Industry  [PDF]

Focusing on technology spillover’s bridge effect between bidirectional Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Global Value Chain (GVC) position of manufacturing industry, this paper first analyzes theoretical mechanism of bidirectional FDI’s influence on GVC position, by taking into account technology spillover perspective, and then it verifies the theoretical framework by using 15 Chinese manufacturing sub-industries data in the latest ten years. The Generalized Least Squares regression results prove that technology spillover plays as a core channel of both Inward FDI’s and Outward FDI’s GVC position promotion effect, and the interactive development of bidirectional FDI can further significantly enhance this bridge effect.

Abstract: Adipose tissue triacylglycerols are the quantitatively most important source of stored energy in animals. Hormone-sensitive lipase encoded by hormone-sensitive lipase gene (Hsl) is a multifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of triacylglycerol stored in adipose tissue and cholesterol esters in the adrenals, ovaries, testes and macrophages. Using pig Hsl gene inserted into pBS labeled by the radioactive isotope and the digoxigenin as the probes respectively one band, 11.5kb, has been shown to hybridized with total DNA of rice field eel digested with Pst I by Southern blotting and Hsl gene has been assigned to metaphase chromosome 5, at the position of 78.35+/-1.26 from the centromere in rice field eel by fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH). The mapping results are corresponding to that of "specific-chromosomal DNA pool" obtained by chromosome microisolation used to map gene and the mapping result is more accurate. The results of the study further illustrate the importance of the presence of Hsl gene in rice field eel genome and provide the first FISH mapping data for rice field eel chromosome 5. The current studies would advance the addition of known genetic markers and the construction of high resolution genetic map in rice field eel genome.
Mitochondrial Ubiquitin Ligase MARCH5 Promotes TLR7 Signaling by Attenuating TANK Action

Abstract: The signaling of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) is the host's first line of defense against microbial invasion. The mitochondrion is emerging as a critical platform for antiviral signal transduction. The regulatory role of mitochondria for TLR signaling remains to be explored. Here, we show that the mitochondrial outer-membrane protein MARCH5 positively regulates TLR7 signaling. Ectopic expression or knockdown of MARCH5 enhances or impairs NF-κB-mediated gene expression, respectively. MARCH5 interacts specifically with TANK, and this interaction is enhanced by R837 stimulation. MARCH5 catalyzes the K63-linked poly-ubiquitination of TANK on its Lysines 229, 233, 280, 302 and 306, thus impairing the ability of TANK to inhibit TRAF6. Mislocalization of MARCH5 abolishes its action on TANK, revealing the critical role of mitochondria in modulating innate immunity. Arguably, this represents the first study linking mitochondria to TLR signaling.
SR-BI in Bone Marrow Derived Cells Protects Mice from Diet Induced Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis and Myocardial Infarction

Abstract: SR-BI deficient mice that are also hypomorphic for apolipoprotein E expression develop diet induced occlusive coronary artery atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction and early death. To test the role of SR-BI in bone marrow derived cells, we used bone marrow transplantation to generate SR-BI-null; apoE-hypomorphic mice in which SR-BI expression was restored solely in bone marrow derived cells. SR-BI-null; apoE-hypomorphic mice were transplanted with SR-BI+/+apoE-hypomorphic, or control, autologous SR-BI-null; apoE-hypomorphic bone marrow. Four weeks later, mice were fed a high-fat, high-cholesterol, cholate-containing diet to induce coronary artery atherosclerosis. Mice transplanted with autologous bone marrow developed extensive aortic atherosclerosis and severe occlusive coronary artery atherosclerosis after 4 weeks of feeding. This was accompanied by myocardial fibrosis and increased heart weights. In contrast, restoration of SR-BI expression in bone marrow derived-cells reduced diet induced aortic and coronary artery atherosclerosis, myocardial fibrosis and the increase in heart weights in SR-BI-null; apoE-hypomorphic mice. Restoration of SR-BI in bone marrow derived cells did not, however, affect steady state lipoprotein cholesterol levels, but did reduce plasma levels of IL-6. Monocytes from SR-BI-null mice exhibited a greater capacity to bind to VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 than those from SR-BI+/+ mice. Furthermore, restoration of SR-BI expression in bone marrow derived cells attenuated monocyte recruitment into atherosclerotic plaques in mice fed high fat, high cholesterol cholate containing diet. These data demonstrate directly that SR-BI in bone marrow-derived cells protects against both aortic and CA atherosclerosis.
ABC Supported Handover Decision Scheme Based on Population Migration

Abstract: In this paper, a handover decision scheme with ABC supported was proposed. Comprehensively considering access network conditions, application requirements, user preferences to access network coding schemes, user preferences to access network providers, terminal velocities and terminal battery capacities, an optimal handover solution was found based on PMA (Population Migration Algorithm). With the help of gaming analysis,Pareto optimum under Nash equilibrium of user utility and network provider utility was achieved or approached for the found solution. Simulation resups showed that the proposed scheme was effective.
Co-Monitor: Collaborative Monitoring Mechanism for Detecting Prefix Hijacks

Abstract: 在如今的互联网中,网络管理员要想及时地发现前缀劫持事件非常困难.考虑到互联网域间路由系统中存在的自治特性,提出了在多个自治系统之间协作监测前缀的思想,并由此设计了一个实时检测前缀劫持的新方法——Co-Monitor机制.在Co-Monitor中,每个参与者与其他参与者交换自定义的前缀-源自治系统映射信息,同时,利用所学到的前缀-源自治系统映射信息实时地监测本地BGP(border gateway protocol)路由更新.一旦某个参与者发现了不一致就立刻通知相关的参与者,从而可帮助参与者及时、有效地发现前缀劫持.给出了Co-Monitor机制的详细设计,评估了该机制的检测能力,并讨论了几个相关的问题.实验结果表明,只需精心选择60个参与者,就可确保Co-Monitor系统检测前缀劫持的漏检率和误检率都为0%.

Abstract: 借鉴IRR(Internet routing registry)机制中注册路由策略的思想,提出了前缀策略(prefix policy)的概念,并由此设计了一种防范前缀劫持的方法—— E-IRR 机制.在E-IRR 中,参与者发布自己的前缀策略,同时利用其他自治系统已注册的前缀策略验证BGP路由,从而防范前缀劫持.提出了维护前缀策略有效性措施,评估了E-IRR机制的安全能力与性能.方法的主要优势是,其在前缀劫持的防范能力与安全机制的实际部署需求之间达到了一个较好平衡,可增量式地部署,并不需要对BGP协议进行任何安全扩展.现有方案都不同时具备这些特性,它们使得E-IRR有望实际可行地解决前缀劫持问题.
