O aprendizado crítico de Paulo Freire

Abstract:
Gene and Gene-Set Analysis for Genome-Wide Association Studies
Inti Pedroso
Quantitative Biology , 2013,
Abstract: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified hundreds of loci at very stringent levels of statistical significance across many different human traits. However, it is now clear that very large samples (n~10^4-10^5) are needed to find the majority of genetic variants underlying risk for most human diseases. Therefore, the field has engaged itself in a race to increase study sample sizes with some studies yielding very successful results but also studies which provide little or no new insights. This project started early on in this new wave of studies and I decided to use an alternative approach that uses prior biological knowledge to improve both interpretation and power of GWAS. The project aimed to a) implement and develop new gene-based methods to derive gene-level statistics to use GWAS in well established system biology tools; b) use of these gene-level statistics in networks and gene-set analyses of GWAS data; c) mine GWAS of neuropsychiatric disorders using gene, gene-sets and integrative biology analyses with gene-expression studies; and d) explore the ability of these methods to improve the analysis GWAS on disease sub-phenotypes which usually suffer of very small sample sizes.
Breve historia del desarrollo de la Ciencia de la Información
Pedroso Izquierdo,Evelyn;
ACIMED , 2004,
Abstract: the so called information science was originated as a result of the growing information needs after world war ii and the beginning of the cold war. the origin and course is studied as well as the influence of the soviet union in this discipline in the current state of development.
Peculiaridades del desarrollo de las ciencias de la información en Cuba
Pedroso Izquierdo,Evelyn;
ACIMED , 2004,
Abstract: the relationship beetwen the degree of scientific development reached by cuba during the pre revolutionary period and the lack of antecedents on informational scientific activities during this period was studied. the priority given to the national scientific activity after the triumph of the revolution was established and some influences arising from informatics and informational sciences in informational scientific activities during the last four decades of the last century in cuba were analyzed.
Uma metodologia de análise estratégica da tecnologia
Pedroso, Marcelo Caldeira;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X1999000100005
Abstract: this paper proposes a methodology for the strategic evaluation of technology in manufacturing companies. with this aim, the article discusses a technology concept and taxonomy, and adopts an extended set of manufacturing competitive criteria. on this basis, a methodology of strategic technology analysis is proposed which is based on the relationships between the proposed technology taxonomy and the set of competitive manufacturing criteria adopted. the proposed model also considers the technological-push and marketing-pull approaches as decision drivers for the adoption of new technology. this paper also presents a case study which considers the fuzzy set theory and some conclusions about the proposed methodology.
A dinamica do marketing de rede: rela??es sociais e expectativas de um novo estilo de vida
Pedroso Neto, Antonio José;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832010000100007
Abstract: the growth of agents who joined amway, a network marketing company, presents a paradox: at the same time amway recruits those agents - as employees -, it don't provide them with legal rights prescribed in formal contracts and, most of the cases, the company doesn't offer even a monetary return. this research aims to demonstrate how amway is structured by a continuous process which institutes a new cognitive order. the analytical model considers that the collectivity's elementary social bond is possible only when individuals share in their minds a minimal set of parameters about the social order: instituted social conventions. inside amway these instituted social conventions are constantly mobilized through practical and ritual activities which intend to increase and give dynamism to the networks, and thus tend to conduct the collective memory and maintain these social conventions.
An updated approach to Multiple Sclerosis
Pedroso-Santana,Seidy;
Biotecnolog?-a Aplicada , 2012,
Abstract: multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system, chronic and with unknown pathogenesis. there is no cure for multiple sclerosis and the causes of the disease appear to be related with genetic and environmental components. the most accepted theory assumes a break of the immunoregulatory balance 'active t cells/regulatory t cells' and some evidences show the incidence of oxidative stress in the disease. the therapies that can reduce or stop the clinic symptoms and plaques formation cannot stop the illness progression, that's why the efforts for finding a new and efficient treatment still continue. the complementation of clinical information with molecular analysis could give more accuracy to a specific treatment. better combinations of drugs and better therapies could be applied if the knowledge about the mechanisms of action of these drugs is improved.
Microhabitat occupation by birds in a restinga fragment of Paraná coast, PR, Brazil
Pedroso Junior, Nelson Novaes;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132003000100013
Abstract: studies were carried out to characterize microhabitat occupation by birds in a restinga fragment of paraná coast. were described 14 microhabitats occupied in different manners for 64 species of birds. based on the results, could be suggested that this conspicuous class of vertebrates, together with the other elements that integrate the restinga, serve as a component to attract and stimulate the interest for the comprehension and necessity of conservation by the visitors of such ecosystem.
Indústria cultural: algumas determina??es políticas, culturais e sociais na educa??o
PEDROSO, LEDA APARECIDA;
Cadernos CEDES , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-32622001000200006
Abstract: this paper analyzes the persistence of both the apartheid and social exclusion despite the supposed information democratization that would be made possible by the introdution of new technologies in the communication means at educational and institutions curricula. such new technologies (tvs, vcrs, computers connected to the internet), having been adopted by the cultural industry, continue "producing" illiterate people and known as functional illeterate as well as, lately, the "illeterate dot com". these resources have generated neither greater knowledge nor individual participation in the political decisions and in the socio-cultural goods restricted to a minority of people who could be called "citizens". the overcome of fashion pedagogic aiming critical and creative education driven to emancipating objectives is still a task to be accomplished.
A literatura e o ensino de línguas n?o-maternas: um conflito assumido como harmonia
Pedroso, Sergio Flores;
DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502006000100001
Abstract: throughout the history of foreign language teaching, the relationship between literature and foreign language teaching has been assumed as pertinent. this paper questions that assumption and explains its consensual bases as supported more by the imagination and by the tradition than by the contributions that literature can bring to foreign language teaching. considering the priorities at the foundations of the several theories that organize the didactic work, the own generic concepts of literature with which those theories work are not consistent with the pedagogic practice needs. this paper discusses a way of approach to literature having in view to meet those needs.
