Pedro Pereira
CEM : Cultura, Espa?o & Memória , 2011,
Abstract: The dolium or vase, as it is commonly called in our days, is in all probability on of most prevalent typesof pottery in the history of ceramics in Portugal. It is also one of the least studied types at national level.The history of Roman ceramics in Portugal has essentially focused on high-quality, imported pottery, such asthe sigillatae or amphorae, or on local productions representative of a certain area, such as the fine greypottery. The dolia are usually considered in a class on their own. The remains found are often not studied, evenwhen the archaeological digs yield a significant amount of these objects.This article results from a more extended study we have been developing, on the dolium type pieces of potteryfound in the Douro valley and Beira Interior region, in archaeological settings dating from the 2nd to the 4thcenturies. The work of Tony Silvino and Guillaume Mazza on the production structure of the dolia in Rumansil(Mós do Douro, Vila Nova de Foz C a) is here taken as a starting point of analysis.In this paper, we present the preliminary results of the analysis of dolia fragments found at the town of Valedo Mouro, (Coriscada, Mêda), excavated between 2003 and 2010, which enabled the systematic survey andstudy of this type of pottery.
Pereira, Pedro Paulo Gomes;
Interface - Comunica??o, Saúde, Educa??o , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-32832008000300004
Abstract: the aim of this text is to present two important queer theoreticians, beatriz preciado and marie-hélène bourcier. after outlining their work and highlighting their definitions of sex and gender, i discuss the centrality of the body in the general economy of their works. i conclude by posing some questions, in which i emphasize the urgency of inquiring into the various vectors of differences that result from inequalities and exclusions.
Pereira, Pedro Paulo Gomes;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452008000200002
Abstract: this article tries to understand how one of the most important narratives of the national cinema - glauber rocha's black god, white devil (1963) - has constructed the sert?o (hinterland), which images and figures he has employed, and how that hinterland delineates and projects the country.
Pereira, Pedro Paulo Gomes;
Mana , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132012000300004
Abstract: the present article symmetrically deals with health professionals who work in indigenous contexts, developing the following questions: what happens to health professionals who find themselves directly relating to different conceptions of body, health and disease? what happens when health practices take place in the context of the process of translating the very concept of health itself? how are these professionals affected by the experience of contact with radical otherness? in seeking to reflect upon these questions, we focus upon the stories of a doctor and a nurse, highlighting points contained in their narratives which tell us something about constraints, limits and translation processes. the scenario described here might temper belief in a homogeneous biomedicine and healthcare professionalism that is exclusively rooted in power: always wrapped in reified and reifying relations.
Coes?o e disciplina partidária no Senado Federal
Neiva, Pedro Robson Pereira;
Dados , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582011000200003
Abstract: this article analyzes party discipline in the brazilian senate based on a previously untapped database covering roll call votes from 1989 to 2009. as occurs in the chamber of deputies, political parties in the senate display a high degree of unity that remains reasonably stable over time. despite the similar results in the two houses, i suggest that the explanations are not the same. as compared to the chamber of deputies, the senate appears to feel less power from the executive, the leaders are scarcely relevant, and the decision-making process is less centralized. i do not offer a solution to this paradox, but i do suggest that it involves not only the institutional rules, but also the organizational characteristics and even the political profile of the senators themselves.
Neiva, Pedro Robson Pereira;
Dados , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582006000200002
Abstract: this article seeks to identify the determinants of the existence and powers of upper legislative chambers. by analyzing their constitutionally established powers, including all of the minimally democratic bicameral countries, it was possible to reach conclusions not previously suggested in the literature. using a two-step model whose calculation includes the possibility of a selection bias (heckman model), the study evaluated both the factors leading to the existence of an upper chamber and those defining its powers. federalism proved to be an important variable for explaining the difference between bicameral and unicameral countries, but not for explaining the political strength of upper chambers. the most relevant explanatory variable in this sense was the system of government: in parliamentary systems, upper chambers have limited powers; in presidential systems they exercise broad powers.
Pereira Neto,Pedro;
Observatorio (OBS*) , 2011,

Neiva, Pedro Robson Pereira;
Revista de Sociologia e Política , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-44782011000200013
Abstract: this article evaluates political party discipline within the brazilian legislature and the support that is provided to the government, from the perspective of a bi (dual) chamber system. i have two major objectives.the first one involves including the senate in discussion of the relationship between executive and legislative powers in brazil, comparing it to the house of representatives. in the second place, i seek to evaluate parties individually, taking their particular characteristics into consideration rather than regarding them as inherent to the political party system. my analysis has focused on the nominal voting carried out in the house of representatives and the federal senate, in the period ranging from 1989 to 2008, comparing the behavior of one party to another as well as to itself, over time. a cross sectional and longitudinal approach enables us to observe results that were previously unidentified within the literature that deals with the relationship between the nation's executive and legislative powers. it also reinforces the argument that parties are cohesive, disciplined and predictable, yet are substantially different from one another in strategies and in terms of the type of relationships that they weave. given the high level of fragmentation and the peculiar traits of each party, it does not seem appropriate to speak of systemic attributes that can be extended to all of them, and even less so when both seats of power are considered.

Pereira, Pedro Paulo Gomes;
Sociedade e Estado , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69922008000100003
