A economia política do novo-desenvolvimentismo e do social desenvolvimentismo
Bastos, Pedro Paulo Zahluth;
Economia e Sociedade , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-06182012000400004
Abstract: the article proposes a classification of two basic views on the strategy of capitalist development after the neoliberalism crisis in brazil: the private sector's export-oriented developmentalism ("newdevelopmentalism"), and state-led distributive developmentalism. both views bring back the state's role in guiding the development model, but with different ways of relating to the market. after a brief introduction, the two views are discussed, and the article concludes with a discussion of their political prospects.
Desaparecimento e emergência dos grupos subordinados na arqueologia brasileira
Funari, Pedro Paulo;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832002000200006
Abstract: this paper explores the ways subordination has been sidelined in the archaeological interpretation of the evidence, in both prehistoric and historical archaeologies, and the recent, less restrictive, developments in the discipline in brazil and how national identity has been shaped by material culture study and display. it deals with an imperial discourse on the origins of civilisation, followed by the demise of imperial archaeology and the early twentieth century and the scholarly archaeology from the 1940s.
Qual era o projeto econ?mico varguista?
Bastos, Pedro Paulo Zahluth;
Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612011000200006
Abstract: the paper studies the formation of the development strategy in getúlio vargas' second term, since the estado novo's regime. the argument is that this strategy was embedded in the national-developmentalist ideology which vargas embraced at least since the 1930', but it was anticipated in the coherent set of policies executed in the 1950's during the second world war, and advocated in the postwar period of neo-liberal predominance and during the electoral campaign of 1950, before undertaken in vargas' second term.

Limites, tradu??es e afetos: profissionais de saúde em contextos indígenas
Pereira, Pedro Paulo Gomes;
Mana , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132012000300004
Abstract: the present article symmetrically deals with health professionals who work in indigenous contexts, developing the following questions: what happens to health professionals who find themselves directly relating to different conceptions of body, health and disease? what happens when health practices take place in the context of the process of translating the very concept of health itself? how are these professionals affected by the experience of contact with radical otherness? in seeking to reflect upon these questions, we focus upon the stories of a doctor and a nurse, highlighting points contained in their narratives which tell us something about constraints, limits and translation processes. the scenario described here might temper belief in a homogeneous biomedicine and healthcare professionalism that is exclusively rooted in power: always wrapped in reified and reifying relations.
Illusio: aquém e além de Bourdieu
Oliveira, Pedro Paulo;
Mana , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132005000200008
Abstract: the aim of this article is to explore the idea of illusio as formulated by bourdieu, enriching his notion with theoretical contributions from psychoanalysis and the thinking of such distinct authors as clifford geertz and cornelius castoriadis. the text argues that the sociological reflection dubbed socioanalysis by bourdieu is compatible with psychoanalysis insofar as the concept of illusio displays close affinities with the concept of sublimation.
Interrelationship between Schistosomiasis and concomitant diseases
Chieffi, Pedro Paulo;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1992, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761992000800045
Abstract: the biological literature contains many examples of mutual influences between different species of parasites, especially with respect to concomitant helminth infections. several situations are known in wich the association of infection by shistosoma mansoni with other pathogens in the same host results in a type of disease wich differs from the simple summation of the individual effects of each infection. the present study concerns concomitant infections involving s. mansoni and enterobacteriaceae; s. mansoni and other helmints such as ascaris lumbricoides, ancylostomids, toxocara canis and species of the genus hymenolepis; s. mansoni and different protozoa such as trypanosoma cruzi, t. brucei, toxoplasma gondii and plasmodium berghei. the interaction between hepatitis b virus and s. mansoni, leading to prolonged viremia and worsening of liver damage, is also discussed. the paper also treats the simultaneous occurrence of schistosomiasis and other aggravating factors such as malnutrition and neoplasias wich may alter the host's response to the trematode.
