Munibe Antropologia-Arkeologia , 1984,

Abstract: background: a study is made to evaluate the clinical efficacy, in terms of clinical attachment gained, of two resorbable membranes versus a positive control (non-resorbable membrane), in the treatment of two-three wall intrabony defects. patients and method: we selected 36 patients in whom 43 two-three wall intrabony lesions were detected. prior to surgery we recorded pocket depth and gingival recession (clinical attachment level). after a full thickness flap approach, debridement and measurement of the defects, and instrumentation of the root wall, the membrane was placed. clinical follow-up was carried out after 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks, and 3, 6 and 12 months, with radiological controls after 6 and 12 months. results: a total of 36 defects completed the study, corresponding to 30 patients. after one year a mean reduction in pocket depth of 3.98 mm was recorded, with a 0.17 mm recession increment and a clinical attachment gain (nci) of 3.97 mm. no significant differences were observed between the different membranes used.
INTERACTIONS BETWEEN Fusarium solani f. sp. phaseoli AND Rhizoctonia solani ON THE SEVERITY OF DRY BEAN ROOT ROT INTERA ES ENTRE Fusarium solani f. sp. phaseoli E Rhizoctonia solani NA SEVERIDADE DA PODRID O RADICULAR DO FEIJOEIRO

Abstract: The present work aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculum densities of Fusarium solani f. sp. phaseoli (Fsp) and Rhizoctonia solani (Rs) and their interactions on the severity of root rot and on the dry mass of bean plants. Soil was infested by the addition of Rs or Fsp-colonized sorghum seeds, in the amounts of 0.00 g; 0.06 g; 0.12 g; 0.25 g; 0.50 g; and 1.00 g for Rs, and 0 g; 1g; 2 g; 4 g; 8 g; and 16 g for Fsp per pot (1.4 kg of soil). The densities used for the joint soil infestations with both pathogens were the same used in the separate pathogen infestations. A progressive rise in the severity of root rots was observed with the increase of inoculum density for both pathogens. Maximum disease severities for Rs were 67% and 22%, in separate or combined infections with Fsp, respectively. Maximum disease severities with Fusarium were 14% and 38%, in separate or combined infections with Rs, respectively. The results suggest that Rhizoctonia solani stimulated the expression of symptoms of Fusarium solani f. sp. phaseoli, while Fsp inhibited the expression of symptoms caused by Rs. Negative correlations between the inoculum density and bean dry weight were generally observed, except for the single infestation with Fsp. KEY-WORDS: Soilborne fungus; bean diseases; soil infestation.
Proportional cancer incidence according to selected sites: comparison between residents in the City of S. Paulo, Brazil: Japanese and Brazilian/Portuguese descent

Abstract: the percentual distributions of selected sites of cancer cases according to origin, sex and age are compared. data were obtained from the registry of cancer of s. paulo (school of public health of the university of s. paulo, brazil). the reference period for inhabitants of japanese descent was 1969/78 and for those of brazilian descent, the period was 1969/75. standardized proportionate incidence ratios (spir) with approximate 95% confidence intervals (ci) were evaluated using age specific incidence ratios of s. paulo, 1973, as standards. the results agree with findings of previous works on mortality, but show different patterns according to origin. the well known fact that some sub-groups of a population may be different from the overall group is once again brought to the fore. attention should be drawn to the differences detected for stomach, skin and prostate, in males, and for stomach, skin, cervix and uterus in females.

Abstract: this descriptive and exploratory research aims to draw the profile of women between 40 and 49 years at a family health center in ribeir?o preto, brazil, in view of the following variables: registration at the service, health insurance and smear realization date, among others. data were collected in the patient records of 213 women. epi info 6.0 was used for data input and analysis and database creation. results display that 49% of the women realized the pap smear at least once in the period from 2000 to 2003. 54.5% of them did not have a health insurance plan and smear realization rates are higher in this group. it was concluded that the organization of health care in accordance with the family health model favors adhesion to this preventive test. we recommend that new studies be carried out to obtain a more representative profile of the population that is registered at the service.

Multimode gravitational wave detection: the spherical detector theory
J. Alberto Lobo
Physics , 2000,
Abstract: A spherical gravity wave (GW) detector, unlike interferometers and bars, is a natural multi-mode device, i.e., it is capable of independently gathering information on all five quadrupole and one monopole amplitudes of a general incoming GW. This is because the sphere's degenerate oscillation eigenmodes are uniquely matched to the structure of the GWs' Riemann tensor components. Suitable linear combinations of the system readout channels completely deconvolve the six GW amplitudes. The present article is concerned with the theoretical reasons for the remarkable properties of a spherical GW detector. The analysis proceeds from first principles and is based on essentially no 'ad hoc' hypotheses. The mathematical beauty of the theory is outstanding, and abundant detail is given for a thorough understanding of the fundamental facts and ideas. Experimental evidence of the accuracy of the model is also provided, where possible.
