Abstract:
Quantifying fluctuations from the tunnelling differential conductance
Antonio M. Garcia-Garcia,Pedro Ribeiro
Physics , 2011,
Abstract: Dynes ansatz is a broadly utilized procedure to extract the superconducting energy gap from the tunnelling differential conductance, a quantity that is measured by scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) techniques. In this letter we investigate the limit of applicability of this ansatz in nano-scale superconductors and propose a generalization that permits to study thermal and quantum fluctuations in STM experiments.

Francisco Garcia a Garcia,Pedro Javier Gómez Martínez
Water sorption isotherms of globe artichoke leaves  [PDF]
Luis Mayor, Alejandro Calvo, Ramon Moreira, Pedro Fito, Esperanza Garcia-Castello
Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/as.2013.49B011
Abstract: One third of the artichoke production is used in industrial processes, where up to 70% - 85% of the initial raw material is transformed into solid wastes. For an adequate management of these wastes, it is necessary to know their water sorption properties, because physical, chemical andbiological changes which occur during theirstorage depend on water-solid interactions. The objectives of this work are to experimentally determine equilibrium sorption (adsorption anddesorption) data of artichoke wastes at different temperatures (25°C - 55°C), as well as correlate and predict water sorption isotherms using bibliographic models. Equilibrium moisture content ranged 0 - 0.6 kg water/kg dry solid (water activity 0.05 - 0.9). Water sorption isotherms were classified between Types II and III. Hysteresis phenomenon was not observed, neither was the dependence of the equilibrium data with temperature. BET, GAB, Oswin and Peleg correlation models were satisfactorily fitted to experimental data. A predictive model based on composition and physical state of artichoke waste components was also successfully used to reproduce experimental data.
A Review of the Production Cycle of Titanium Dioxide Pigment  [PDF]
Manuel Jesús Gázquez, Juan Pedro Bolívar, Rafael Garcia-Tenorio, Federico Vaca
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2014.57048
Abstract:
Titanium is a very important element for several industrial applications, being one of the ninth most abundant elements in the Earth’s crust (0.63% wt). In this work it will discuss the different mining and industrial activities involved in the production of titanium dioxide. The first step analyzed will treat about the beneficiation mining process of titanium mineral, and secondly, it will discuss the two main processes of the TiO2 manufacturing (sulphate and chloride routes). In addition, we will show different uses of the titanium dioxide pigment as filler in paper, plastics and rubber industries and as flux in glass manufacture, etc. Finally, we will show that the old wastes are currently called co-products since they were valorized, being commercialized by the Spanish industry of TiO2 production in different fields such as agriculture, civil engineering, or cement manufacturing.
The Importance of Social Media for Commerce. A Case Study in Madeira (Portugal)
Irene Garcia Medina,Pedro Alvaro Correia Pereira
International Journal of Interactive Mobile Technologies (iJIM) , 2012, DOI: 10.3991/ijim.v6i1.1825
Abstract: The continuity and the success of organizations appear increasingly associated with the incorporation of social media. The success depends of the structural and procedural changes that the organization has to make. Today, social media are the new digital marketing tools that help in the processes of communication. Companies need to understand that they are no longer the exclusive owners of the relation of consumers with their products/services; instead, the survival of the organizations depends of the effective utilization of the social media. Creative and innovative solutions are not necessarily too expensive and the internet ends up being one of the best marketing tools available for the organizations. In a more transparent and dynamic world, consumers trust other people to provide advice and recommendations about products and services more and more through social media and it is important to know how and why social media influence organizations. This study analyzes through a literature review the current importance of social media for digital marketing communication and shows a case study on traditional shops that use social media to obtain competitive advantages over shopping centers in Funchal (Madeira, Portugal). To finish, the study proposes a new model of business for successful marketing strategies. Also, the article explains how to manage the changes associated and how collaborators need to get used to working in a wider and more dynamic community.
Tituliación de bonos de catástrofe y riesgo moral
Susana Blanco Garcia,Pedro Carvajal Molina
Rect@ , 2002,
Smania, Maria Cristina,Garcia, Pedro Celiny Ramos
Scientia Medica , 2005,
