Bendassolli, Pedro F.;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822011000100009
Abstract: the work is one of the main theoretical pillars of work psychology. it is understood as a category capable of sustaining psychic processes, such as identity, mental health and individual actions. this article shows that psychology appropriates the work via meta-theoretical, theoretic-conceptual, and technological reconstruction instruments. the article analyzes the forms of appropriation found in three major branches of work psychology that the text refers to as the organizational, the social, and the clinical paths. for each of these, we question the meaning of work and its consequences for the theory and research into work psychology.
Bendassolli, Pedro F.;
Revista de Administra??o de Empresas , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-75902009000400003
Abstract: the purpose of this article is to analyze the reconstruction of the subject-work relationship found in emerging career models emerging from the confluence of sociological, psychological and managerial traditions. we use the term reconstruction because these models share a common spirit of the times that became widespread over the past four decades and consists in emphasizing the weakening, precarization, disassembly and consequent need for transformation of traditional career models, seated on a concept of employment that is a heirloom from the industrial society. we introduce and analyze the central assumptions of eight emerging career models and, based on them, investigate how the subject, work and organizations are re-worked in response to the de-institutionalization of work that took place as they were proposed. we conclude by proposing that emerging career models are discursive devices whose criticism may yield valuable information on the ambiguities and contradictions surrounding work today.
Theoriegenerierung in der qualitativen Sozialforschung: Ein neuer Blick auf das Problem der Induktion Theory Building in Qualitative Research: Reconsidering the Problem of Induction La construcción de teoría en la investigación cualitativa: Reconsiderando el problema de la inducción
Pedro F. Bendassolli
Forum : Qualitative Social Research , 2012,
URN: http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs1301258 The problem of induction refers to the difficulties involved in the process of justifying experience-based scientific conclusions. More specifically, inductive reasoning assumes a leap from singular observational statements to general theoretical statements. It calls into question the role of empirical evidence in the theory-building process. In the philosophy of science, the validity of inductive reasoning has been severely questioned since at least the writings of David HUME. At the same time, induction has been lauded as one of the main pillars of qualitative research methods, and its identity as such has consolidated to the detriment of hypothetical-deductive methods. This article proposes reviving discussion on the problem of induction in qualitative research. It is argued that qualitative methods inherit many of the tensions intrinsic to inductive reasoning, such as those between the demands of empiricism and of formal scientific explanation, suggesting the need to reconsider the role of theory in qualitative research.

Abstract: the great theoretical and methodological diversity of work and organizational psychology (wop) approaches in brazil reflects the presence of distinct scientific paradigms in the setting of boundaries and the organization of this field. the purpose of this paper is to analyze these paradigms and relate them with three wop thematic streams in brazil: the behavioral stream; the subjectivity stream; and the clinical stream. we investigate epistemological and methodological fundamentals, some studies and authors in each of these streams, discussing their contribution to the field of wop in brazil. the paper discusses the stresses that exist among these streams, which arise from the pressure of corresponding at once to academic rigor and organizational relevance criteria. finally, the article shows the diversification of the field of wop in brazil and resulting challenges.

Abstract: studies concerning the worker in creative industries are still scarce in the management scientific literature. this study has attempted to reduce this gap, by investigating the meaning of work among professionals laboring in these industries. we have translated and adapted a canadian questionnaire into portuguese for measuring this construct. it was responded by 451 individuals from different domains of those industries in s?o paulo state, brazil. the data was analyzed with use of psychometric techniques and procedures for comparing and correlating means. the findings show that the most prominent factors associated to a meaningful work for these individuals are: the possibility of learning and developing through work, its social function, the opportunity of identification with and self-expression through work, autonomy, good interpersonal relationships, and the respect to ethical issues. the paper concludes with some implications from these findings to the creative industries and meaning of working literature

Abstract: the term "creative industries" first arose in the 1990s to indicate sectors in which creativity is an essential business dimension. creative industries include, among others, activities related to the cinema, theater, music and the plastic arts. in this introductory article we show the rise of the term within the domain of public economic development policies, we analyze the scientific literature about creative industries and we try and organize the various definitions of the term, by differentiating it from similar concepts, especially the concept of cultural industries. we argue that the phenomenon may constitute a fertile field for investigation for researchers in organizational studies and we indicate some investigation trails to be explored.
