Total inexperiencia
Alonso,Pedro;
ARQ (Santiago) , 2002, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-69962002005200017
Abstract: starting from the current split of the different artistic disciplines, and the later attempts to regroup them into a total art, alonso proposes a link between that totality and the city. if, for the situationists, the city is the ultimate staging of man's life -and, as such, the ideal frame for this integration-, then urbanism, architecture, and the citizen's everyday lived experience must assume together a new kind of commitment

ARQ , 2002,
If, for the situationists, the city is the ultimate staging of man's life -and, as such, the ideal frame for this integration-, then urbanism, architecture, and the citizen's everyday lived experience must assume together a new kind of commitment
Alonso, Juan Pedro;
Interface - Comunica??o, Saúde, Educa??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-32832012005000003
Abstract: this paper examines medical decision-making at the end of life, analyzing lay and professional notions of a "good death". based on an ethnographic approach in a palliative care unit in the city of buenos aires, argentina, this paper empirically addresses the way in which the meanings surrounding these notions are negotiated in practical and situational contexts. analysis on specific cases of decision-making at the end of life shows the problematic nature of defining these notions in medical settings. the meanings and definition of a "good death" are subject to interpretations by the players involved. the paper also identifies the tensions between projects for "humanization" of care at the end of life and the medicalization of death and dying.
Alonso,Juan Pedro;
Cuadernos de antropolog?-a social , 2009,
Abstract: this paper works on different ways in that patients whit terminal diseases, attended in a palliative care unit of buenos aires city, interrogate their corporal sensations. i analyze certain forms of interrogating the corporal sensations in a context of strong uncertainty related to the experience of the patients and how professionals deal with this kind of situations. first, i explore a way of hipervigilance of the body, where the physical symptoms become a sign of the advance of illness and death. second, i explore alternative forms of interpreting these sensations which shows that the emotional dimension of illness is central in the experience of suffering. tentative, precarious, threatening or reparative, the interpretations that patients make of their corporal signs, instead of being separated from biomedical knowledge, are presented as subtle variations that delineate the contours of an imprecise biology and physiology

Abstract: this paper works on the experience of uncertainty and embodiment in patients with oncological diseases, who are attended in a palliative care unit of buenos aires city, argentine. based on an ethnografic approach, we show different ways in which patients interrogate their corporal sensations related to illness experience in contexts of strong uncertainty. first, we explore a way of hipervigilance of the body, where the physical symptoms are interpreted as signs of illness and death. second, we explore alternative forms of interpreting bodily sensations, related to narratives of hope. tentative, precarious, threatening or reparative, interpretations that patients make of their corporal signs present subtle variations of biomedical knowdledge, and show central aspects of emotional dimension in the illness experience.

The Construction of Dying as a Process: the Management of Health Professionals at the End of Life
Juan Pedro Alonso
Universitas Humanística , 2012,
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze how professionals of palliative care –a branch of medicine specialized in the care of dying patients– define, plan and disclose the “terminal” status of patients with advanced cancer diseases. The article is based on ethnographic observations and interviews with professionals in a palliative care service in the Buenos Aires city. The paper analyzes the tasks of definition and projection of the dying process and the way professionals disclose information about the dying prognosis. The analysis of these practices shows how the “end of life” is constructed in two ways: as a stage of psychological preparation for patients and families (and therefore an object of professional intervention), and as gradual process culminating in death.

De abstracto a concreto

ARQ , 2012,
Abstract: Durante la segunda mitad del s. During the second half of the 20th century, the use of precast concrete panels to build large housing projects became a significant prefabrication practice. Revisiting these systems can provide keys to understand the current potential of prefabrication.
