Open Journal of Applied Sciences (OJAppS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojapps.2015.52006
Abstract: The identification and selection of performance measures play an important role in any decision making process. Additionally, millions of dollars are spent on appropriate planning and identification of prospective projects for improvements. As a result, current practitioners spend a lot of time and money in prioritizing their limited resources. This research proposes two tasks: 1) estimation of performance measures using a simulation based on dynamic traffic assignment model, and 2) development of a methodology to evaluate multiple projects based on benefit-cost analysis. The model, DynusT, is used for the Las Vegas roadway network during the morning peak time period. A comparative analysis of the results from proposed methodology with existing California Benefit-Cost (Cal-B/C) models is presented. The results indicate that the new methodology provides an accurate benefit-cost ratio of the projects. In addition, it signifies that the existing Cal-B/C models underestimate the benefits associated with the prospective project improvements. The major contribution of this research is the simultaneous estimation of the performance measures and development of a methodology to evaluate multiple projects. This is helpful to decision makers to rank and prioritize future projects in a cost-effective manner. Planning and operational policies for the transportation systems can be developed based on the gained insights from this study.
Translation and Reception of The Wealth of Nations by Spanish and Latin American Authors during Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries  [PDF]

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2015.35008
Abstract: The objective of this paper is not the complete work, but namely to analyze the reasons for which in Spain and Latin America The Wealth of Nations, was censored in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and to analyze in turn whether the reasons for this censorship correspond to the ideas that Adam Smith effectively defended. It is not intended to judge the intention of any of the parties involved in this process but to understand the context in which they occurred, and to judge whether people in Spanish-speaking countries during those centuries knew what Adam Smith actually wanted to express.

Abstract: the purpose of this essay is to contrast the appearance of and trace the evolution of a common hero, joaquín murieta in the play fulgor y muerte de j. murieta (1967) and hija de la fortuna (1999) by i. allende. while neruda?s murieta is a hero of mythical-epical proportions, a hero with a strong ideological charge, allende?s on the other hand is an anti-hero, a character from whom one must be liberated. the structure of this character in both writers, although different, contributes to the creation of the popular imaginary of joaquín murieta
Boletín del Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-68942011000100004
Abstract: the paper describes the first general survey of the state of conservation of rock paintings located in the alto loa area, in chile’s region ii. the physical integrity of 88 archaeological sites was evaluated, taking into account the value and use of these cultural resources. the links between the alterations recorded and the processes involved in making the works was also studied. the results establish the stability of the substrata and paintings, but identify as a weak point the loss of material caused by soluble salts and problems with adhesion and cohesion of the pigments. the paper concludes that these changes result from factors intrinsic to production, which distinguish the red pictographs from those of other colors. the relative inaccessibility of the sites, which are minimally affected by humans, is favorable to their conservation.
Gestión estratégica y posicionamiento de ciudades: La marca de ciudad como vector para la proyección internacional
Revista Venezolana de Gerencia , 2005,
Abstract: the purpose of this paper is to describe the substantial changes that have occurred in the conceptual bases of competitive urban politics. the methodology was based on a theoretical analysis of the administration of the city trademark and the strategies designed for international insertion of the principal urban regions in the face of globalization. two relevant processes are evaluated: a) the adoption of new strategies of urban management, and in particular the consideration of strategic management together with the trademark, and b) the new demand for knowledge and instruments that help to strengthen the processes of international insertion from a focus that incorporates territorial positioning, social creativity and management competitivity. the conclusion is that it is important to implement trademark action for international projection of cities from a perspective that incorporates social creativity and urban competitiveness.
Marca de ciudad y democratización de la gestión pública
Revista Venezolana de Gerencia , 2008,
Abstract: this article presents achievements in the use of a management tool that, while it increases competitiveness, also offers a privileged opportunity for getting the citizenry to collaborate with the democratizing of local public administration. based on a documentary analysis of sources linked to urban marketing and its development of the city brand, an overview was defined whose central purpose was to analyze three fundamental moments in city brand evolution: creation, development and management, with a concern for opening channels to incorporate citizens in these moments. finally, based on this theoretical analysis, conclusions are that the city brand is an innovative way to strengthen democratic governance by promoting the city.

Self-assembled monolayers and titanium dioxide: From surface patterning to potential applications
Yaron Paz
Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology , 2011, DOI: 10.3762/bjnano.2.94
Abstract: The ability to control the properties of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) attached to solid surfaces and the rare photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide provide a rationale for the study of systems comprising both. Such systems can be realized in the form of SAMs grown on TiO2 or, in a complementary manner, as TiO2 grown on SAMs. Accordingly, the current status of knowledge regarding SAMs on TiO2 is described. Photocatalytic phenomena that are of specific relevance to SAMs, such as remote degradation, and cases where SAMs were used to study photocatalytic phenomena, are discussed as well. Mastering of micro-patterning is a key issue en route to a successful assimilation of a variety of titanium dioxide based devices. Accordingly, particular attention is given to the description of a variety of methods and techniques aimed at utilizing the photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide for patterning. Reports on a variety of applications are discussed. These examples, representing the areas of photovoltaics, microelectronics, microelectromechanics, photocatalysis, corrosion prevention and even biomedicine should be regarded as appetizers paving the way for further studies to be performed.
