Attributes of Biothic Indicators as an Instrument for Assessing Ecosystem Integrity  [PDF]
Paula Catalina Pinilla-Cortés, Jaime Alberto Moreno-Gutiérrez
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1105540
Abstract:
The biotic indicators, or bioindicators, constitute a reference that con-tributes to the resolution of different issues associated with the state and evolution of the natural habitats where they are located. The information they provide can be interpreted mainly in terms of sensitivity, tolerance to different types of stress and the integrity of a forest ecosystem. The objective is (commentary 1) to present the characteristics of the bioin-dicators, which are capable of reflecting the ecosystemic integrity and provide valuation references in forest habitats. The attributes were re-ported thanks to the methodological strategy of bibliographic review through a theoretical sampling, taking into account 44 bibliographical sources that covered a time lapse between 1985 and 2016. As a result of the review, there were obtained a total of seventeen prevalent attributes in bioindicator species. Part of the discussions focus on recognizing that the study of bioindicators, and in general the principles associated with bioindication, provide potential criteria to resolve concerns beyond fully biological or ecological aspects and that are relevant in scenarios of environmental economic and/or ecological valuation. Finally, this review concludes that it has been possible to present a consensus of attributes and, at the same time, show some emerging attributes associated with biotic indicators that contribute to the analysis of the selection of bioin-dicator species in different studies.
RECOLECCIONES SONORAS Y VISUALES DE ESCENARIOS DE MEMORIAS DE LA VIOLENCIA
Cortés Severino,Catalina;
Antipoda. Revista de Antropología y Arqueología , 2009,
Abstract: this article analyzes and approaches some artistic practices and productions related with the memories of violence not only at the level of representation but also as "works of memory" that deploy new languages, spaces temporalities and a(e)ffects of memories while nurturing the same recuperation and regeneration of meaning. hence, this work can be defined as an approach to the time-image articulation; this is, what i am interested in is to analize how these artistic practices are opening spaces to reflect upon other temporalities, about memories in the benjaminean sense of a ruin not articulated to decadence or "the past", but on the contrary, as the simultaneous coexistence of times.
DOCUMENTANDO EL REPERTORIO: LO AUDIOVISUAL EN LAS PO-éTICAS Y POLíTICAS DEL RECORDAR
CORTéS SEVERINO,CATALINA;
Revista Colombiana de Antropología , 2011,
Abstract: this audiovisual and ethnographic work in process is based upon different scenarios around the memories of violence of the proceso de comunidades negras (pcn), la comunidad de paz de san josé de apartadó y la organización de mujeres wayuu munsurat. it is based upon an articulation of time / image; this is, i am interested in analyzing and working around the question on how the audiovisual practices are opening spaces to reflect upon other temporalities, on the memory as benjamin's ruin that should not be understood as decadence, as the past, but on the contrary, as the memory and interposition and coexistence of different times. at the same time, this project is considered as a practice and cultural production of memory through the audiovisual register.
SIENA'GA: Una imagen en medio de la interposición de temporalidades y espacialidades
Cortés Severino,Catalina;
Memoria y Sociedad , 2012,
Abstract: the name siena/ga (siena-ciénaga) refers to the liminal, in-between space within which this autobiography develops. the common thread and axis of this visual work are the stories of displacement, relocation and settlement of my grandmother, mother, sisters, and me. these stories narrate how these places have been inhabited and longed for, and how the different female subjectivities and intersubjectivities have taken shape through the spiral passage of time.

Mestizaje nacional: una historia “negra” por contar.
Diana Catalina Zapata Cortés.
Memoria y Sociedad , 2010,
Abstract: This work analyzes the “negro” representation in the projects of folklore diffusion that spread in the decade 1950-1960 as a product of a socio-political context characterized for its need to redefine national Latin-American identities. In Colombia, this process started in 1930 through the Liberal Republic educational policy, and was designed from the idea of a “mixed race country”. The following document carefully explores the work and cultural management exerted by Delia and Manuel Zapata Olivella, two important milestones in the intellectual and cultural fields of the country. They became known for their contribution to the understanding of folklore and the inclusion of “negros” withinnational memory.

Cambios en edafofauna asociada a descomposición de hojarasca en un bosque nublado
Varela,Amanda; Cortés,Camilo; Cotes,Catalina;
Revista Colombiana de Entomología , 2007,
Abstract: the functional diversity and role of soil fauna on litterfall decomposition were studied in a cloud forest located southwest of the sabana de bogota. a decomposition experiment was set up, confining 10 g of litterfall in mesh bags. a total of 24 bags was set out, half of which contained naphthalene to avoid the entry of soil fauna. at two, four and 12 months, four bags of the treated litterfall and four of the control were collected. each bag was placed in a tullgren funnel to extract the associated soil fauna. this was identified to the lowest taxonomic level possible and classified into functional groups. richness and diversity were calculated using shannon and simpson indices. litterfall was dried and weighed in order to calculate percent decomposition. in the litterfall treatment there was a reduction in the abundance or absence of soil fauna during the first 60 days due to naphthalene, but there was no difference in percent decomposition between the treatment and control. there was a greater abundance of detritivores, followed by litter transformers and phytophages over the three sampling periods. richness, dominance and equitability of functional groups were not different between the litterfall treatment and the control. this suggests that the role of soil fauna in the decomposition of litterfall is less relevant in this forest than lowland forests.

HOSPITAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS: A STUDY OF ELECTRONIC PATIENT RECORDS
Pedro Luiz Cortês,Eliana Golfette de Paula Cortês
JISTEM - Journal of Information Systems and Technology Management , 2011,
Abstract: The importance of patient records, also known as medical records, is related to different needs and objectives, as they constitute permanent documents on the health of patients. With the advancement of information technologies and systems, patient records can be stored in databases, resulting in a positive impact on patient care. Based on these considerations, a research question that arises is “what are the benefits and problems that can be seen with the use of electronic versions of medical records?” This question leads to the formulation of the following hypothesis: although problems can be identified during the process of using electronic record systems, the benefits outweigh the difficulties, thereby justifying their use. To respond to the question and test the presented hypothesis, a research study was developed with users of the same electronic record system, consisting of doctors, nurses, and administrative personnel in three hospitals located in the city of S o Paulo, Brazil. The results show that, despite some problems in their usage, the benefits of electronic patient records outweigh possible disadvantages.
