Adsorption of Copper from an Ammonia-Thiosulfate Media Using DOWEX 550A Ion Exchange Resin  [PDF]
Cristian Vargas, Patricio Navarro
International Journal of Nonferrous Metallurgy (IJNM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ijnm.2016.54005
Abstract: The study of copper adsorption onto ion exchange resins of anionic type is part of the gold recovery from ammonia-thiosulfate solutions, where copper is the main impurity of the system because it acts as a catalyst of gold dissolution reaction. A study is made of the adsorption and desorption of copper in the form of the ?\"\"complex in an ammonia-thiosulfate media on an ion exchange resin, DOWEX 550A, classified as a strong base, which in its inner structure has a quaternary amine functional group. In the studied pH range copper adsorption increased with increasing pH, while the presence of thiosulfate decreased it, the same as the ammonia content, due to the greater presence of cuprotetramine, \"\". Elution of the copper complexes from the resin was more efficient with sulfite than with perchlorate.
A Comprehensive Overview of the Cold Spot
Patricio Vielva
Advances in Astronomy , 2010, DOI: 10.1155/2010/592094
Abstract: The report of a significant deviation of the CMB temperature anisotropies distribution from Gaussianity (soon after the public release of the WMAP data in 2003) has become one of the most solid WMAP anomalies. This detection grounds on an excess of the kurtosis of the Spherical Mexican HatWavelet coefficients at scales of around 10 degrees. At these scales, a prominent feature—located in the southern Galactic hemisphere—was highlighted from the rest of the SMHW coefficients: the Cold Spot. This paper presents a comprehensive overview related to the study of the Cold Spot, paying attention to the non-Gaussianity detection methods, the morphological characteristics of the Cold Spot, and the possible sources studied in the literature to explain its nature. Special emphasis is made on the Cold Spot compatibility with a cosmic texture, commenting on future tests that would help to give support or discard this hypothesis. 1. Introduction Besides the great success of the NASA WMAP satellite on providing a detailed knowledge of the cosmological parameters that define the physical properties of the Universe (e.g., [1, 2]), some unexpected results have attracted the attention of the cosmological community soon after the first release of the WMAP data: the so-called WMAP anomalies. Some of these anomalies are related to hemispherical asymmetries (e.g., [3–11]), an anomalous alignment of the quadrupole and octopole components (e.g., [12–21]), significantly low variance of the CMB temperature fluctuations (e.g., [22–25]), or anomalous alignment of the CMB features toward the Ecliptic poles (e.g., [26, 27]). Some of these aspects are addressed in this special issue. In addition to the previous findings, the prominent cold spot (hereinafter, the Cold Spot) detected in the southern hemisphere by [28] became one of the most studied anomalies of the WMAP data. The Cold Spot was identified after testing that the Spherical Mexican Hat Wavelet (SMHW) coefficients of the WMAP data presented an excess of kurtosis (at scales of around in the sky), as compared to the distribution derived from isotropic and Gaussian CMB simulations. This paper presents a complete review on the detection and characterization of this nonstandard signature, and a description of the different attempts made so far in understanding what could be the cause behind such departure from the standard inflationary paradigm. It is organized as follows: in Section 2, the author justifies the use of wavelets as a natural tool for probing the Gaussianity of the CMB temperature fluctuations. the author also

Abstract: patricio pozo dissects a group of new scenarios that constitute and configure the new territory of images, superimposed to reality. figures of the everyday are translated until the exhaustion into two-dimension surface trying to represent, to support and to transmit a transactional world. a new race of designers -no longer anonymous artisans but visual authors of texts and interpreters of contents- will be in charge of managing and organizing this new scene
?Formal o informal?
ARQ (Santiago) , 2003, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-69962003005300014
Abstract: the present article examines the informal phenomena that contribute to shape a city in parallel to the urban planning carried out by institutional actors. several examples and experiences along this line help to cast light on new forms of urban intervention that attempt to recuperate marginal zones of latin american cities.

Abstract: in this paper, the constitutional court uses the principle "tertium comparationis" in order to apply the principle of equality in the tax field to resolve a constitutional conflict that evolves a discriminatory tax rule that regulates a dependent worker as an independent professional. the judgment discusses additionally about other legal considerations, which not only tie to tax constitutional principles, such as the scope of functions of the legislator in the configuration of the tax system. additionally, this paper exposes a later decision of a court of appeal about similar facts and rules.
La temporalidad como estructura de L'Action (1893) de Maurice Blondel
T?3picos , 2010,
Abstract: this paper aims to offer an analysis of the estructure of maurice blondel's l'action (1893) in three different levels taking into account as a model the triadic configuration of temporality. the first level is implicit in the analysis of action made in the introduction to the work; the second level consists in the analysis of passivity described in the first moment of the fourth part; the third level contains the whole work in its global sense, extending itself to the phenomenon of action, the argument about the only necessary being and the alternative of action. i pretend to prove that the past, present and for-coming dimensions of temporality are at the base of the comprehension of this work.
Reproductive aspects of the Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) off southern Chile
Latin american journal of aquatic research , 2009,
Abstract: we present the results for the reproductive biology of patagonian toothfish (dissostichus eleginoides) caught off southern chile from january to march and june to november 2006. a total of 10,896 specimens were measured (55-220 cm total length, tl) and sexed (7,049 males, 64.7%; and 3,847 females, 35.3%). macroscopic observations showed that gonad maturation begins at 60 cm tl in both sexes, with an average maturation size of 81 cm tl in males and 89 cm tl in females. this species appears to have an ampie spawning period that occurs only off the far southern region of chile. to date, no evidence indicates that this resource reproduces in any other areas of the pacific ocean off the coasts of south américa, where no specimens were observed with mature gonads, percentages of atresia were high, and juvenile fish were not caught in trawl fishing operations targeting other commercial species.

Abstract: copper slag is a by product of the copper smelting industry. we took granulated copper slag and milled it until it acquired characteristics similar to those of a fine aggregate, which was then incorporated into concrete, in combination with bio-bio river sand in proportions of 25%, 40% and 50% by volume of copper slag. we then examined the impact of the different combinations on the mechanical behaviour to flexotraction and compression in the resulting concrete. our specification was to produce concrete for water-cement ratios of 0,45 and 0,52 associated to breakage resistances to flexotraction of 3.6 and 4.3 mpa, respectively. we measured workability of the fresh concrete, as well as density, and breaking load by flexotraction and compression in the hardened concrete, comparing results with a concrete control that did not contain smelting copper slag. results indicate that the mixture's docility increases due to the smoother texture of the slag. concrete density and hardened resistance to compression and flexotraction also increase, depending on the content of slag copper smelter used in the mix.
