Cultura y Desarrollo. Una agenda abierta e indispensable
Patricio Rivas Herrera

Abstract: six spring barley (hordeum vulgare l.) genotypes were crossed in a diallel system to study combining ability for grain yield and twelve malting quality traits. the f1 hybrids behavior was analyzed using griffing?s model i, method 2. the analysis for general combining ability (ccg), specific combining ability (cce) and the relationship ccg/cce showed that expression of eight out of the thirteen traits were associated with genes which were additive in their effects: grain weight, malt extract, viscosity, friability, malt protein, soluble protein, kolbach index and free amino nitrogen (fan). on the other hand, the expression of grain plumpness, extract difference and the hartong index showed both additive and non-additive genetic control, the former being of greater magnitude. only grain yield and diastatic power had mainly non-additive control, even though additive effects were also present.

Aims: To know the clinical and biochemical spectra and perinatal outcomes associated with syndrome of hypertension in pregnancy (HP) in the Herminda Martin Hospital from Chilian. Methods: It is a retrospective study using clinical records with HP diagnosis (N=416) during 2006 to 2008. The available records were divided in three different groups according with arterial blood pressure: Group I (n=124) <140/90 mmHg; Group II (n=98) 3 140-159/3 90-109 mmHg and Group III (n=41)3 160/110 mmHg. Additionally, a subset (n=85) was divided considering the percentile of the uric acid level in the mother as: HP with low (p75th) uric acid levels. The studied groups were analyzed and compared each other and quantitative variables were correlated with perinatal outcomes. Results: The prevalence of HP was 3.8%. Women in the groups II and III showed worse clinical and neonatal outcomes compared with women in the group I. Body mass index (BMI), maternal blood pressure and uric acid levels were negatively correlated with neonatal anthropometry. Moreover, neonatal

Sudden chain energy transfer events in vibrated granular media
Nicolas Rivas,Suomi Ponce,Basile Gallet,Dino Risso,Rodrigo Soto,Patricio Cordero,Nicolas Mujica
Physics , 2011, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.106.088001
Abstract: In a mixture of two species of grains of equal size but different mass, placed in a vertically vibrated shallow box, there is spontaneous segregation. Once the system is at least partly segregated and clusters of the heavy particles have formed, there are sudden peaks of the horizontal kinetic energy of the heavy particles, that is otherwise small. Together with the energy peaks the clusters rapidly expand and the segregation is partially lost. The process repeats once segregation has taken place again. Depending on the experimental or numerical parameters, the energy bursts can occur either randomly or with some regularity in time. An explanation for these events is provided based on the existence of a fixed point for an isolated particle bouncing with only vertical motion. The horizontal energy peaks occur when the energy stored in the vertical motion is partly transferred into horizontal energy through a chain reaction of collisions between heavy particles. A necessary condition for the observed regularity of the events is that chain reactions involve most of the heavy particles.
