Carvalho,Patrícia Borges de; Araújo,Wilma Maria Coelho;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232008000700028
Abstract: in brazil, there is a steadily increasing offer and demand for products on the basis of vitamins and minerals. according to brazilian law, the differences in the dosages offered to the consumer in each product are the parameter for its classification as alimentary supplement or medicament. the limit between these two concepts, however, is confusing and lacks clearness. considering the risk posed by imprudent consumption of such products and seeking to facilitate the interpretation and consolidation of the norms dealing with vitamin and mineral products as well as to create the basis for a master's degree dissertation, a bibliographical survey and evaluation of the entire juridical basis regarding the labeling of these products was conducted. it was concluded that the normative regulations are extensive, complex and of difficult understanding, with a great number of norms dealing with the same subject issued by different authorities. these norms are not consolidated leading to difficult interpretation by retailers, health professionals and consumers and even to failures in the application of these norms by the control authorities. suggestions are made for helping to correct the failures identified in the study.

Biotemas , 2008,
Abstract: The manatees are considered to be opportunist herbivors, consuming a great amount of alimentary items. The aim of the present study was to identify the alimentary components of the diet of Antillean manatees in free life in the northeastern region of Brazil. Samples of stomach contents from six Antillean manatee carcasses were col lected, in addition to fecal samples from 11 native manatees and five that had been released. The material was identified at the genus and/or species level, based on its morpho-anatomic aspects, and 21 species of seaweeds, phanerogams and cnidarians were presented. Through these analyses it was possible to observe that Antillean manatees fed on a great variety of aquatic plants, with the predominance of red seaweeds.

Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0037-86822002000400007
Abstract: in order to investigate aspects of the infection and morbidity of chagas' disease in the municipality of jo?o costa, piauí state, brazil, we carried out a serological survey to detect anti-trypanosoma cruzi antibodies in 2,080 individuals, by indirect immunofluorescence, indirect hemagglutination and elisa. a total of 189 seropositive and 141 seronegative patients were evaluated by anamnesis, physical exam and electrocardiogram (ekg). the parasitaemia of 106 chagasic patients was evaluated by indirect xenodiagnosis and pcr (polymerase chain reaction). the total seropositivity was 9.8%, with intervals of 0.5% in patients younger than 10 years old, and 39.4% among patients older than 59 years old, independently of the sex. the pcr and xenodiagnosis were positive, respectively in 74.5% and 15.1% of the seropositive patients (p < 0.05). the rate of abnormal ekg was 41.3% in chagasic and 15.6% in non-chagasic patients (p < 0.05). in spite of the high prevalence of infection in the investigated population, the low rate of seropositivity among children is indicative of a possible decrease of the active transmission mediated by triatomines. the high proportion of the chagasic component on the cardiopathy prevalence is indicative of the high morbidity of chagas' disease in the studied region.

Abstract: the objectives of this study were to assess the in situ rumen degradation of dry matter (dm) and neutral detergent fiber (ndf) and the estimated dm intake of dwarf elephant grass genotypes in different cutting intervals. the incubation periods in the rumen environment were 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48, 72, 96 and 144 hours. a randomized block design was used with three replications (animals), two dwarf elephant grass genotypes (cnpgl 94-34-3 and cnpgl 92-198-7) and the cv. mott, with cutting intervals of 14, 28, 42, 56, 70 and 84 days, in a split plot design. the parameters of dm and ndf degradation, and its potential and effective degradabilities did not vary greatly for cv. mott and the cnpgl 94-34-3 and cnpgl 92-198-7 genotypes, but they decreased substantially with increased plant maturity for all the genotypes. intake estimates generated by two equations are considered valid for these feeds.

Case Reports in Clinical Medicine (CRCM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/crcm.2015.43025
Introduction: Advances in prenatal imaging studies have allowed early diagnosis of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), although neonatal mortality remains at high levels (60% survival). Despite advances, this study found delayed diagnosis, demonstrating subdiagnosis, possibly caused by lack of resources and/or prenatal diagnostic failure. Case Report 1: Infant, 4 months and 22 days old, dyspneic, cyanotic, with fever and vomiting for 3 days, treated as pneumonia. After the second chest radiography, a right CDH was revealed. Surgical correction was performed and removal of Meckel’s diverticulum was surgical findings. The patient was discharged on the 10th days after admission. Case Report 2: Infant, 11 months and 3 days old, distended abdomen, with fever and dyspnea for 2 days, treated as pneumonia. After the second chest radiography, a left CDH was revealed. The patient was submitted to surgery, intestinal loop incarceration without necrosis was observed, and the correction of CDH was performed. The patient was discharged on the 7th day after admission. Discussion: Three cases, between July 2012 and July 2013, were diagnosed at Dom Malam Hospital; 2 Cases of CDH, with delayed diagnosis, showed incidence of 66.66%. Delayed diagnosis of these patients with initial hypotheses of pneumonia demonstrated high risk, emphasizing the importance of diagnosis research through observation of the clinical course, the correct imaging interpretation, in order to establish early diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract: In this article we report the use of infographics as a pedagogical alternative to the study of a very important theme in Chemistry Teaching. We discussed the possibility of using infographics in the classroom, as a differential to extend the learning for the construction of elaborations of multiple languages and written readings. We have created dynamical content utilizing ThingLink, an online software that enables the authors to bring life to imagens through the addition of audio, videos, social network profiles, texts and other related contents. After creating a free account within the service, the user may upload a base image and attach the complementary content in a very simple manner, without the need of knowledge of advanced programming techniques. The approach makes use of multimodal modes that enhance learning and is in line with the development of proposals for education in contemporary times.
