Abstract: objective outlining aspects associated with the adult population of the municipality of guarne, antioquia, engaging in physical activity during their leisure time (palt), 2007. methods a combined descriptive and correlation-type design was adopted, accompanied by qualitative analysis of compatibility and complementary functions. a survey and some interviews were held and some observations were made for exploring cultural, social-demographic, political-institutional and urban space matters at individual and contextual level. results 52 % of the people (mostly male) having a higher educational level and better perception of fitness and good health conditions reported engaging in outcome-associated palt. attitudes towards palt were orientated towards both the expected result and practising it. lack of time was the prevailing impediment, linked to others. preferences were associated with gender. the use and appropriation of public spaces was found to be differentiated according to gender. orientating local action for promoting palt did not favour coordination between sectors and population participation. the qualitative analysis revealed a relationship between contextual (social gender representations, physical activity and appropriating public spaces) and individual aspects (permanence, preferences and appropriating public space), both aspects being connected with practising palt. conclusions individual and contextual aspects associated with practising palt in the municipality of guarne were identified as well as the relationships between them.

Abstract: Introduction: Interventions with physical exercise and nutritional guidance show changes in overweight among young people suffering from the metabolic syndrome (MS); nevertheless, their characteristics and results vary. Objective: To assess the effect of an intervention with physical exercise and nutritional guidance on components of the MS among overweighted young people.Materials and methods: Longitudinal study with an assessment before and another after the intervention in nine young people aged 11 to 17 years. Anthropometric aspects, resting heart rate, peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak), insulinemia, HOMA, and components of the MS were assessed. Intervention consisted of 12 weeks of supervised exercise, three 90-minute sessions/week (aerobic and strength), plus two unsupervised sessions; the weekly supply of fruits and vegetables in order to cover the five recommended daily servings, and individual and group nutrition education. Results: With the intervention waist circumference decreased from 90.5 ± 11.0 to 88.1 ± 9.9 cm; BMI from 30.2 ± 5.8 to 29.3 ± 5.6 kg/m2; total body fat from 39.8 ± 13.0 to 34.3 ± 9.0%; glycemia from 86.0 ± 8.6 to 83.1 ± 5.0 mg/dL; insulinemia from 23.2 ± 9.8 to 19.4 ± 7.6 μU/mL; HOMA-IR from 2.89 ± 1.21 to 2.39 ± 0.93; resting heart rate from 87.9 ± 4.3 to 78.2 ± 5.5 rpm, and VO2peak increased from 36.3 ± 5.1 to 38.5 ± 4.1 mL/kg/min. Four out of six young people with the diagnosis of MS at the beginning of the study did not present it at the end. Conclusions: Participating in an exercise program and increase in the consumption of fruits and vegetables among overweighted young people with components of the MS produced positive modifications in body composition, VO2peak, resting heart rate, and glycemia, as well as in the components and prevalence of the MS.

Patio Carrillo,Luis;
Interciencia , 2005,
Abstract: a numerical-experimental methodology is presented to determine the interstitial heat transfer coefficients in the oil flow through a metallic packed bed where the fluid is not in thermal balance with the solid phase. the heat transfer coefficients are obtained through the single blow transient method, combining the experimental results in a test equipment with the numerical solutions of the proposed mathematical model. the system of partial differential equations generated in the mathematical model is solved through a numerical methodology based on the finite volume method. this numerical model was constructed in the software of computational fluid dynamics cfx 4.3tm and was developed in cylindrical coordinates, using a scheme of central differences to approximate the diffusive terms, a hybrid scheme for the convective terms and a totally implicit scheme to implement the transient state. the experimental tests and the numerical solutions were satisfactory for different values of superficial speed of the fluid at the entrance to the bed and for different porosity values, obtaining that the nusselt numbers depend in great scale on the reynolds numbers and the porosity of the media, agreeing with the results of similar investigations.
Justificación racional de los imperativos morales
Patio Arango,Alejandro;
Discusiones Filosóficas , 2010,
Abstract: in this paper, i examine hare's rational conception on moral judgements. for this, he criticizes sharply the emotivist conception of logical positivists and of stevenson. he also aparts himself from moore's moral intuitionism, as expounded in principia ethica. to develop moral rationalism, hare starts from the principle that moral language is apart of the general language, from which it cannot be separated since when we do moral reasonings these are ruled by the different rules of classical logic. for this reason, hare applies classical logic to his theory of imperatives and considers ethics as the logical study of moral language. i also show the similarities and differences between austin's and hare's conceptions, emphasizing the evolution of the thought of the later. when hare wrote the language of morals, he was not under the influence of austin's tricotomic view of speech acts: locutionary, illocutionary and perlocutionary, influence that we can see in later works. while hare locates moral judgments in the locutionary, austin does it in the illocutionary. this controversy leads us to think on the importance of pragmatics in moral judgements as well as on its rationality.
LA FILOSOFíA DEL LENGUAJE DE LOCKE
PATIO ARANGO,ALEJANDRO;
Discusiones Filosóficas , 2006,
Abstract: by analyzing book iii of an essay concerning human understanding, i intend to illustrate how we can find in this work of locke's some elements that were developed later in twentieth century analytical philosophy. i discuss this influence by means of locke's analysis of the role of language in the problem of knowledge, which leads him (among other things) to criticize metaphysics, to conceive the notion of a metalanguage, to analyze the different functions of language, and to postulate the notion of sense and lack of sense. i argue for the view that we can find these notions in locke's views.
