EL VIEJO EN LA HISTORIA
Trejo Maturana,Carlos;
Acta bioethica , 2001, DOI: 10.4067/S1726-569X2001000100008
Abstract: a brief historical review of the role of the elderly over different periods in western history is made. the esteem of the elderly had its highest point during primitive epochs when an illiterate culture prevailed. after those remote times their social valuation suffered diverse vicissitudes. most of the time older people were devaluated, although it is necessary to make a distinction between the aged as an individual-whose value relates to his economical power or prestige- and the aged as a social group. going along the different historical epochs helps us to understand current situation of the elderly. this is a necessary condition for giving an answer to the great challenge this age group of ever increasing demographic growth poses

Julio Maturana,Cristina;
Estudios pedagógicos (Valdivia) , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-07052009000100006
Abstract: the article presents the results of an exploratory research on the relationship between social and educational vulnerability in pupils from families that benefit from the puente project, and that currently attend the high school early years education, and the first cycle of primary school education. the relationship is analysed from an inclusive education perspective. it aims to examine the belief that this relationship is direct and that the mere fact of pertaining to low socioeconomic segment means a high educational vulnerability, which is associated to failure at school. to this end, an index was built that eventually signalled a great diversity of educational results in the population analysed even though they belonged to the same socioeconomic segment, leading to the conclusion that the relationship is not direct.

Maturana,Carmen Luz;
Aisthesis , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-71812009000100006
Abstract: through the bibliographic review of newspapers, magazines and announcements posted during the xix century in santiago and other chilean cities, it can be seen that a number of plays and some artistic groups, mainly european theater companies, used pre-cinematographic effects on stage to show how theatrical sceneries linked to live magical transformations produced by light-projected optical effects. these plays were showed throughout the whole analyzed century. optical effects led their scenery. this genre, considered as part of the end of european baroque, had as main foundation both stage machinery and stage magic. with time, these shows disappeared from the stages since they were assimilated by the optical language of cinema.

Mapa de zonificación de amenazas por inundación del casco urbano del municipio de Quibdó (Chocó): Estudio basado en la interpretación de imágenes de radar, de satélite y fotografías aéreas
Maturana Córdoba,Zamir;
Ingeniería e Investigación , 2007,
Abstract: a zoning map of areas which flood due to the atrato river and its tributaries (the cabí, cara?o and yesca) overflowing in the urban area of chocó (quibdo) was drawn up to be used by aid authorities and quibdó city as a planning and control tool. this research relied on ciaf (centro interamericano de fotointerpretación) support and assessment. this entity is a subsidiary institution of the instituto geográfico agustín codazzi which provided their installations and the required geographical material. this research was initially based on interpreting radar (intera), satellite (landsat) and aerial photographic images; this was verified by field verification of the interpreted data. other variables such as climatic, geological, temperature, topographic conditions, historic and hydrological series and facts regarding the region were studied as additional information required for drawing conclusions. aerial photographs provided the most reliable images due to their scales, quantity and quality and the date of when they were taken. radar images (intera) were also important when visually analysing a sector?s topography as they were produced by an active microwave sensor (totally eliminating climatic obstacles). on the contrary, satellite images did not have great relevance due to the amount of clouds hampering any kind of analysis. complementing these results, a calibration curve for analysing this section?s maximum flow values was based on historical series data regarding the atrato river?s flows and maximum levels recorded at the quibdo hydrographical station and the river-bed?s cross-section. implications that the river would overflow or has overflowed were statistically estimated on these results, thereby setting the limits (supported by cartographic data) for the corresponding areas at risk of flooding. a map marking areas at risk of flooding in the urban zone of quibdó was then designed and a document prepared concluding that neighbourhoods on land lying at 25-27 metre
Comments on Professor Serani's article
MATURANA-ROMESIN,HUMBERTO;
Biological Research , 2001, DOI: 10.4067/S0716-97602001000300006
Abstract: i prefer not to comment on professor serani's epistemological and methodological objections, as i find they do not apply to my work from the perspective of a reading that recognizes the differences between his metaphysical position and my own. neither the introduction nor the book itself constitute a philosophical thesis, as they emerge in a metaphysical position that neither seeks nor requires transcendental arguments to justify it. it is either validated or not by the operational coherencies of the observer's life experiences. there is no doubt that i believe that the book does what it sets out to do: it shows the conditions of the constitution of living beings and the conditions of their survival.
