Reflex?es sobre o n?o-escolar na escola e para além dela
Palhares,José Augusto;
Revista Portuguesa de Educa??o , 2009,
Abstract: assuming that the public school is in a state of transformation, particularly in regard to a (re) definition of its social functions and its expression in structuring the daily lives of children and young people, we commence this reflection nourished by the conviction that it is possible to comprehend it by taking a critical stroll between their borders and at the same time establishing lines of analysis on the relationships that this institution establishes with other educational instances. the implementation of policy measures such as "full time school" appears in this text as a lever to reflective thinking about educational opportunities that may be drafted between the school and the non-school, both in school space and time and beyond them. we will also discuss the growing centrality of school culture in the construction and definition of pathways, strategies and experiences of education (non-formal and informal) in distinct areas of the life of students.
Pegada hídrica dos suínos abatidos nos Estados da Regi o Centro- Sul do Brasil = Water footprint of pigs slaughtered in the states of south-central Brazil

Acta Scientiarum : Animal Sciences , 2011,
The aim of this study was to calculate the water footprint of pigs slaughtered in 2008 in each state of south-central Brazil. The calculation of water footprint considered water consumed in grain production (corn and soybean), drinking water and washing water.Rio Grande do Sul was the state with the largest water footprint (2.702 km3), followed by Santa Catarina (2.401 km3) and Parana (1.089 km3). States with the smallest footprints were Rio de Janeiro (0.00215 km3), Distrito Federal (0.0354 km3), and Espírito Santo(0.0719 km3). States with low yields of corn and soybeans had higher water footprint. Calculations show that water management in swine production cannot address only the farm; it should include related agricultural supply chains.

Exploring the different phase diagrams of Strong Interactions
Leticia F. Palhares
Physics , 2012,
Abstract: In-medium field-theory is applied to different effective models and QCD to describe mass and isospin effects, finite volume corrections and magnetic fields in the phase diagram of Strong Interactions, keeping close contact with experiments and lattice results. Findings range from a technical nonperturbative solution of the hot and dense regime of a general massive Yukawa Theory and the computation of the cold and dense chiral surface tension -- a key quantity for supernovae explosions and compact star structure -- to the proposal of a novel signature for the QCD critical endpoint in heavy-ion collisions based on finite-size scaling. The behavior of the deconfining critical temperature as a function of the pion mass and the isospin chemical potential is also addressed in an effective model and the description obtained is in agreement with lattice simulations, in contrast to what is found in (Polyakov-extended) chiral models. We also discuss the thermodynamics of QCD in the presence of a (Abelian) magnetic field to two-loop order and a Functional-Renormalization-Group analysis of relativistic Bose-Einstein condensation of pions in isospin-dense media.
Generalized Algorithms of Discrete Optimization and Their Power Engineering Applications  [PDF]

Engineering (ENG) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2015.78049
Abstract: Generalized algorithms for solving problems of discrete, integer, and Boolean programming are discussed. These algorithms are associated with the method of normalized functions and are based on a combination of formal and heuristic procedures. This allows one to obtain quasi-optimal solutions after a small number of steps, overcoming the NP-completeness of discrete optimization problems. Questions of constructing so-called “duplicate” algorithms are considered to improve the quality of discrete problem solutions. An approach to solving discrete problems with fuzzy coefficients in objective functions and constraints on the basis of modifying the generalized algorithms is considered. Questions of applying the generalized algorithms to solve multicriteria discrete problems are also discussed. The results of the paper are of a universal character and can be applied to the design, planning, operation, and control of systems and processes of different purposes. The results of the paper are already being used to solve power engineering problems.
Comparison between the micronucleus frequencies of kidney and gill erythrocytes in tilapia fish, following mitomycin C treatment

Genetics and Molecular Biology , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-47572002000300005
Abstract: the frequencies of mitomycin c and cyclophosphamide-induced kidney and gill erythrocyte micronuclei were compared in tilapia rendalli and oreochromis niloticus. cyclophosphamide (cp) and mitomycin c (mmc) were previously used to investigate fish sensitivity to micronuclei induction in kidney erythrocytes. fish were treated with a single dose of cyclophosphamide (40 mg/kg) or mitomycin c (2 mg/kg). peripheral blood samples and kidney blood samples were obtained, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 15 days after the intra-abdominal injection of mmc. t. rendalli showed to be more sensitive than o. niloticus to micronuclei production. both compounds were used at the maximum tolerated dose (mtd), and mitomycin c proved to be more toxic than cyclophosphamide. the frequency of micronucleated erythrocytes observed varied significantly among the treated individuals. the difference between the kidney and gill micronuclei frequencies was not significant. higher levels of micronucleated erythrocytes were observed in tilapia rendalli than in o. niloticus. t. rendalli produced erythrocytes with deformed nuclei, which o. niloticus did not.

Less Conservative Fuzzy Control for Discrete-Time Takagi-Sugeno Systems
Leonardo Amaral Mozelli,Reinaldo Martinez Palhares
Mathematical Problems in Engineering , 2011, DOI: 10.1155/2011/361640
Abstract: New analysis and control design conditions of discrete-time fuzzy systems are proposed. Using fuzzy Lyapunov's functions and introducing slack variables, less conservative conditions are obtained. The controller guarantees system stabilization and ?∞ performance. Numerical tests and a practical experiment in Chua's circuit are presented to show the effectiveness.

Acta Cirurgica Brasileira , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-86502009000300011
Abstract: purpose: to evaluate the applicability of the use of autogenous muscle treated in various ways, as a substitute of the nerve grafts. methods: rats were divided into seven groups that received, as a treatment for a standard nerve injury, the following types of grafts: fresh muscle, muscle fixed with 10% formaldehyde, muscle frozen in a freezer, muscle frozen in refrigerator, nerveless muscle, peripheral nerve and a group was without any treatment. it assessed the histological appearance of the nerve fibers in the segment repaired. results: the evaluation of the segment nervous repaired showed nerve fibers through the graft in almost all groups, but the methodology employed has not adequately characterized the differences between the groups. conclusion: this study showed the migration of nerves fibers through all grafts used.
