Double actorship in community health work from the perspectives of presence and empowerment
Mariet Paes
Journal of Social Intervention : Theory and Practice , 2009,
Abstract: This article is based on a qualitative case study that was carried out in a health community practice of 25 years’ standing. In this study ‘double actorship’ emerged as one of the most important elements in the health-based community approach. The people in this community are regarded as active individuals who are able, to a greater or lesser degree, to improve their health autonomously by engaging in sustainable, confidential and supportive relationships. When we analysed the strategies of the professionals and volunteers we found that they took account of both the limitations and potential of the clients. We conclude that both presence and empowerment are necessary factors in community-based health work. The strengths and the weaknesses of people are taken into consideration and attention is paid to how they can help themselves and each other. Double actorship occurs when a relationship develops in which worker and client are both subject and actor; a mutual relationship with a place for limitations and potential, for weakness and strength, even in the case of the most vulnerable people.
Mudan?as no sistema tributário e no mercado de crédito e seus efeitos sobre a informalidade no Brasil
Paes, Nelson Leit?o;
Nova Economia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-63512010000200004
Abstract: in this paper we analyze the impacts of some changes in tax and credit policies on informal business in brazil. to do this, we use a computable general equilibrium approach. the main findings shows that a reduction in 1% of tax rates on production or on labor income or capital income can reduce the size of the informal sector and the number of informal jobs, without reducing tax revenue.a more accurate result can be obtained with a reduction in the cost of credit instead of using lower tax rates. the most effective policy seems to be the reduction of taxes on production.
Cana?: o horizonte racial
Paes, José Paulo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 1991, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40141991000300010
Abstract: the article purports to examine the ideas which the main characters of cana?, by gra?a aranha, express on the relations between race and culture, as well as on the racial melting process and the future whitening of the population of brazil in a brotherly and solar utopia. these ideas are correlated, on one side, to the concern of silvio romero, euclides da cunha and araripe jr. with the adequation between geography, race and culture; on the other side, to the concern of s. paulo's modernist movement to define a brazilian national character. this concern can be seen, on the level of symbolical representation, in macunaíma and, on the level of a more systematic theorizing, in portrait of brazil, which goes so far as to mention eugenics when discussing the future brazilian ethnical type.
Os impactos da altera??o da contribui??o previdenciária patronal para a indústria
Paes, Nelson Leit?o;
Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612012000400005
Abstract: for various reasons, the brazilian industry is losing internal and external competitiveness. recently launched the program "brasil maior" includes, among other actions, the change in the incidence of employer pension contributions of some sectors, leaving the incidence on the payroll to focus into the gross revenue (mp 540/2011). this paper has estimated the impact of this change, considering a 20% increase in rates of cofins to maintain tax neutrality. the results suggest there will not be major macroeconomic consequences, although the industrial sector showed strong growth of output and employment, with small reductions in agriculture and services.
Reforma tributária: os efeitos macroecon?micos e setoriais da PEC 233/2008
Paes, Nelson Leit?o;
Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612011000200011
Abstract: in spite of a disappointed historical, the brazilian government sent a new tax reform proposal to the national congress, pec 233/2008. the proposals unify some of the federal consumption taxes into a federal vat, simplifies icms legislation, reduce investment and social securities rates and rates applied to essential goods. in order to analyze this change, it was constructed a general equilibrium model with 55 firms of the economy. the results suggest a moderate expansion of aggregate output, consumption, employment and investment with a little loss in revenues and a gain in welfare. also, we have substantial changes in sectorial output, with a tendency of increasing the share of farm and industrial sectors in detriment of services.

Uma análise de narrativa do "caso Schreber" à luz do novo historicismo: negocia??es freudianas
Henriques, Rogério Paes;
ágora: Estudos em Teoria Psicanalítica , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14982008000100006
Abstract: an analysis of the narrative structure of " schreber's case" in the light of new historicism: the freudians negociations. this study of " schreber's case" focuses its intertextuality with the articles of karl abraham. it has been suggested that the freud's clinical essay has been written considering the historical context of that period and showing the power relations effective then. the target is to redeem the historical background of freud's text on schreber and, for such purpose, critical analysis of the new historicism as a method of approaching the freudian text has been used. the different levels of negotiations inherent to his clinical essay have been reported.
Contribui??o para a determina??o da evapotranspira??o potencial no estado de S?o Paulo
Camargo, A. Paes de;
Bragantia , 1962, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051962000100012
Abstract: five-year results from three batteries of evapotranspirometers located at three different places of state of s?o paulo plateau were used to verify the thornthwaite, fenman-bavel and blaney & criddle formulas for computing the potential evapotranspiration in their latitude and climatic conditions. the tanks used in the evapotranspirometers were commercial, square-shaped asbestos-cement boxes with 0.54 m2 surface area. bahiagrass (paspalum nota turn flügge) was planted inside and outside the tanks so that their surface plant cover represented a sample of the entire vegetated area. the tanks, or lisimeters, allow estimating the potential evapotranspiration by difference between the ammount of water added to them every two days as irrigation plus eventual rainfall, and the water leaving the tanks by percolation. under the conditions of the state of s?o paulo plateau the potential evapotranspiration data in the summer months are about twice those of the winter months. normally the monthly value amounts to 120 mm in january but does not reach 60 mm in july. the monthly potential evapotranspiration data were correlated to those computed with thornthwaite and blaney & criddle equations, the penman-bavel nomogram and a form of the blaney & criddle equation adopted to the state of s?o paulo envirommental conditions. very high correlations between measured and computed results were found. the poorest correlations were found with the penman-bavel method data. the: correlation coefficient (r) between computed and measured monthly results at campinas were the following: thornthwaite, r=0,95; blaney & criddte original equation, r=0,93; penman according to bavel nomogram, r=0,89. high accuracy or agreement between the calculated and the measured values was obtained with the thornthwaite, the modified blaney & criddle and the penman-bavel methods. the original blaney & criddle equation gave very discrepant results with measured ones particularly during the winter months, whose value
A implanta??o do princípio do destino na cobran?a do ICMS e suas implica??es dinamicas sobre os Estados
Paes, Nelson Leit?o;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402009000300003
Abstract: in this paper, we used a dynamic general equilibrium model to estimate the effects of the adoption of destination principle at icms, the most important brazilian tax, on the states public finance. the results had shown that piauí could increase its revenue from icms by almost 40%, while espírito santo could suffer a loss by more than 13%. in general, less developed states will gain with the adoption of destination principle, contributing to reduce the inequality of tax revenues between states in brazil, with little effect in output and consumption.
"Cara ou coroa": uma provoca??o sobre educa??o para índios
Paes, Maria Helena Rodrigues;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-24782003000200007
Abstract: this study constitutes a space for reflection and for some challenges on the education of brazilian native indians, with a specific focus on the current configuration of the globalised world, which with the growing use of technology, weakens the boundaries between the most diverse communities. in this sense it presents a brief discussion about the understanding of culture, from the perspective of the field of cultural studies, highlighting the constitution of cultures and hybrid identities. considering the school as the legitimated space and institution for the construction and transmission of symbolic truths and values, it discusses its function and importance for the indian communities. thus some questions are raised as to the "truths" and "values" of the models of the necessary school proposed by non-indians for the indian community.
