Abstract: this research tries to assess the dependents and long term care costs for next years in spain. to do this, it has been taken account data from the survey on disabilities, impairments and health status and population forecasts estimated by ine, the legal rules passed between 2006 and 2008, and some former studies about individual costs of longterm care. the key point in this study is the concept of cost per point of scale. once calculated, forecasts till 2050 have been estimated. finally, the results have been compared with those included in the long term care act.

Papeles de población , 2010,
Abstract: this paper tries to analyze the degree of participation in the spanish labor market registered by handicapped and dependent people. firstly, a description of social and demographic characteristics is made for each group. it is given special emphasis in items such as age, gender, studies or kind of suffered disability. the statistical analysis of the participation in the labor market is made using binary logit models. they are used to assess the effect on the likelihood to be into the labor market due to each of the previously mentioned characteristics. four models have been estimated, and the goodness of fit has been checked with roc curves.

Revista Espa?ola de Salud Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1135-57272006000400005
Abstract: background: in order to move to a system in which formal medical-social care is a priority, in which the institutions play a greater role, it is advisable to analyze the different actual situations of those individuals who are dependent. the objective of this study consists of classifying the dependent spanish population into different groups, each of their own distinguishing characteristics. methods: the data from the disabilities, deficiencies and health status survey (spanish national institute of statistics, 1999) related to the non-institionalized population over 6 years of age. groups are configured using multivariate analysis techniques in terms of the age, sex, daily living activity-related disabilities, the severity thereof and the number of hours of care per week. results: nine statistically heterogeneous profiles were obtained. in the first three, with 341,262 individuals (24.5% of the total dependent population), the individuals in question were under 60 years of age. with the exception of one group, females were predominant (61% males), falling within the 13-36 age range. in the group least affected by lack of self-sufficiency (136,240 individuals), solely 26% of those comprising this group had problems getting around (maximum degree of severity in 7%), regarding care, 25% (maximum degree of severity in 10%) and only 32% need more than 15 hours of care per week. most thereof (74%) are females within the 82-90 age range. conclusions: the dependent spanish population is revealed to be in different situations related to different categories in terms of age, sex, number and severity of the daily living activities affected. the different assessments of the severity related to said categories, employing both the spanish national institute of statistics maximum severity criterion as well as another alternative criterion which implements the degree of severity of all of the daily living activities, not only the maximum, confirm the nine groups found to be diffe

Abstract: background: even if there is a wide consensus on the concept of a dependent individual, in practice national valuation systems produce completely different results. the objective in this work is to compare the application of different valuation scales for dependency on the spanish population and to identify the differences in the results on the right to obtain public support. methods: the evaluation definition and schemes that are applied in france, germany and spain are implemented to the spanish population using data from the survey on disabilities, dependency and health status. the spanish system is compared to the other two using factorial correspondence analysis. results: according to the survey the total number of dependent individuals in the population is 1.398.767. under the spanish scale, 776.475 would receive some type of public support, under the german scale 745.520 would qualify and when applying the french scale, those would be 315.514. correspondence analysis results show that the spanish scale is much more similar to the german scale than it is to the french scale. (spearman's correlation coefficient and kendall's are reduced by almost 40% when the spanish scale is compared to the french scale, rather than the german scale). conclusions: with the same personal conditions, the system used influences both the degree of severity of dependence and the possibility to become eligible to public funds. the spanish system is the most generous and the french system is the most restrictive one, the latter also imposes limitations on age.

Investigaciones Regionales , 2011,

Abstract: We present a study of galaxies showing mid-infrared variability in data taken in the deepest Spitzer/MIPS 24 $\mu$m surveys in the GOODS-South field. We divide the dataset in epochs and subepochs to study the long-term (months-years) and the short-term (days) variability. We use a $\chi^2$-statistics method to select AGN candidates with a probability $\leq$ 1% that the observed variability is due to statistical errors alone. We find 39 (1.7% of the parent sample) sources that show long-term variability and 55 (2.2% of the parent sample) showing short-term variability. That is, 0.03 sources $\times$ arcmin$^{-2}$ for both, long-term and short-term variable sources. After removing the expected number of false positives inherent to the method, the estimated percentages are 1.0% and 1.4% of the parent sample for the long-term and short-term respectively. We compare our candidates with AGN selected in the X-ray and radio bands, and AGN candidates selected by their IR emission. Approximately, 50% of the MIPS 24 $\mu$m variable sources would be identified as AGN with these other methods. Therefore, MIPS 24 $\mu$m variability is a new method to identify AGN candidates, possibly dust obscured and low luminosity AGN, that might be missed by other methods. However, the contribution of the MIPS 24 $\mu$m variable identified AGN to the general AGN population is small ($\leq$ 13%) in GOODS-South.
