Catalytic Behaviors of Expansible Graphite in the Synthesis of Butyl Acetate

Abstract: The catalysis of expandable graphite EG for esterification has been studied. EG was prepared with KMnO4 as oxidant and H2SO4 as inserting reagent. Eexpanded volume,x-ray diffraction and energy dispersive analysis for EG were carried, and its catalytic activity was detected in the reaction of acetic acid with butanol. Influence of mole ratio of butanol and acetic acid, dosage of EG on ester yield were optimumed single factor experiments. The suitable esterification condition is: molar ratio of butanol to acetic acid keeps 1.6:1.0, mass of EG keeps 9.0% of the total mass of reactants; reaction keeping up 1.0 h at the boling point, and esterification rate of 98.2% can be achieved. The reuse ester yield is 86.6% for first reuse and 61.2% for the second reuse.

Abstract:

In this paper, a new method for discovering the candidate car license plate locations is presented. First, the image is decomposed using a Haar wavelet to get the HL band with vertical edges. Then, the HL band image is binarized using an Otsu threshold. Next a black top-hat algorithm is applied to reduce the effects of interfering large continuous features other than the license plate. At this time, a moving window based modified variance score calculation is made for areas with white pixels. This work found that the top 3 detected rectangle windows correctly locate the license plate regions with a success rate of about 98.2%. Moreover, the proposed method is robust enough to locate the plates in cases where the rough vehicle position has not been previously discovered and the cars are not centered in the image.

It proposes new solutions for “Bridging the gap between university education and social demand and cultivating qualified talents for software companies”, that is, to cultivate the students’ competence for software engineering in curriculum design. Besides, it gives a scheme for cultivating the students’ competence for software engineering in curriculum design, and delivers good results in practice.
Competitive Adsorption between Polyethylene Glycol and Acid Brilliant Red on Expanded Graphite

Abstract: Expanded graphite (EG) adsorbent was prepared with graphite as raw materials, potassium permanganate as oxidant, and vitriol as intercalation compound. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) 10000 and Acid brilliant red 3B (ABR) with obvious difference in molecular weights were selected as organic adsorbates, and their adsorption and competitive adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics on EG were investigated. The results are: In both single component system and dual component system, the adsorption and competitive adsorption isotherm of PEG 10000 and ABR on EG are all type I. In dual component system, the existence of another component would decrease the single component adsorbance, which might be caused by the competitive adsorption of these adsorbates for the same adsorbing site on EG. Adsorption and competitive adsorption are spontaneous, and the increase of ionic strength, temperature and expanded volume of the adsorbent would cause the increase of adsorbance. No matter the single component system or the dual component system, the adsorption kinetics models can all be well described with pseudo second-order model. Adsorption rate increases with the increase of temperature. Physical adsorption is the main action between EG with these adsorbates.
