A study of 2 rapid tests to differentiate Gram positive and Gram negative aerobic bacteria
T. Jaya Chandra,P. Subha Mani
Journal of Medical and Allied Sciences , 2011,
Abstract: 293 aerobic bacterial pathogens were isolated from various clinical samples. All the isolates were subjected to Gram stain (GS), potassium hydroxide (KOH) string test, and Vancomycin susceptibility test. All Gram negative bacilli i.e. 100%, showed resistance to Vancomycin and KOH string test positivity (p=0.000). 97.8% of gram positive bacteria were sensitive to Vancomycin and 100% were KOH string test negative (p=0.000). As KOH string test and Vancomycin tests are simple and inexpensive, these can be used in addition to Gram staining, for rapid identification of bacterial isolates.
Optical and Dielectric Studies on L-Valinium Picrate Single Crystal  [PDF]
P. Koteeswari, P. Mani, S. Suresh
Journal of Crystallization Process and Technology (JCPT) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jcpt.2012.23015
Abstract: Single crystals of L-Valinium picrate were grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the crystal belongs to monoclinic system. The optical transmission study reveals the transparency of the crystal in the entire visible region and the cut off wave length has been found to be 470 nm. The optical band gap is found to be 2.55 eV. The transmittance of L-Valinium picrate crystal has been used to calculate the refractive index (n), the extinction coefficient (K) and both the real (εr) and imaginary (εi) components of the dielectric constant as functions of wavelength. Low dielectric loss at high frequency region is indicative of enhanced optical quality with lesser defects. Photoconductivity measurements carried out on the grown crystal reveal the negative photoconducting nature.

Journal of Minerals and Materials Characterization and Engineering (JMMCE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jmmce.2012.118071
Abstract: Optically transparent and bulk single crystal of l-histidine hydrochloride monohydrate (LHHC) was successfully grown by slow evaporation technique. The cell parameters and the crystallinity of the grown crystal were estimated by the single-crystal. Optical transmittance of the crystal was recorded using the UV–vis–NIR spectrophotometer. The optical band gap and optical constant of the material were determined by using transmission spectrum. The dielectric loss and dielectric constant measurements as a function of frequency and temperature were measured for the grown crystal.
Identification and Control of a Cylindrical Tank Based on System Identification Models
Mary Mol Paul,P. Subha Hency Jose
International Journal on Theoretical and Applied Research in Mechanical Engineering , 2013,
Abstract: Advancements in the process control industry has made difficulties in controlling processes which are highly complex in nature. System identification provides a better solution for this problem with the help of identification models. In this paper ARX,ARMAX,BJ and OE models were used for the identification of a cylindrical tank and Ziegler Nichols tuning method to develop the controller for controlling the level of the tank. The proposed method provides simple and accurate models and thereby improving the efficency of identification process. MATLAB and LABView softwares were used here for identification and controlling.
The State of High Performance Computing in the Cloud
Sanjay P. Ahuja,Sindhu Mani
Journal of Emerging Trends in Computing and Information Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: HPC applications have been gaining lot of attention in the cloud computing world. Most of these applications are scientific applications that require large CPU capabilities and are also data intensive requiring large data storage. Traditionally they have always required large number of computers inter-connected in a network such as clusters or supercomputers. These clusters are difficult to setup and maintain both technically and financially. With the advent of cloud computing and benefits of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS), scientists and researchers are able to deploy their HPC applications in the cloud without worrying about the costs associated with the infrastructure and other costs involved. They also give guarantees on the quality of service (QoS). This paper focuses on documenting some of the research already done in the field of HPC applications and their current state in cloud computing.

International Journal of Health Research , 2008,
Abstract: Tuberculosis is on the rise in the recent years. Commonest presentation is tuberculosis of the lungs. Tuberculosis of the middle ear cleft is relatively uncommon and often missed by clinicians. A case of tuberculous otomastoiditis with intracranial complication is presented. This case report is to emphasize the fact that high index of clinical suspicion is necessary for the early diagnosis and treatment of this entity which can cause fatal consequences.
ALLELOPATHIC EFFECTS OF WEED (Tridax procumbens L.) EXTRACT ON SEED GERMINATION AND SEEDLING GROWTH OF SOME LEGUMINOUS PLANTS
D Femina,P. Lakshmipriya,S. Subha,R. Manonmani
International Research Journal of Pharmacy , 2012,
Abstract: Aqueous leaves extract of different concentrations of weed (Tridax procumbens L.) was used to investigate their allelopathic effects on seed germination, root and shoot length and fresh and dry weight of some leguminous plants viz. Vigna radiata L. (Green gram), Dolichos biflorus L. (Horse gram) and Vigna unguiculata L. (Cow pea). Mature fresh leaves of weed were crushed and soaked for 24h; the filtrates were diluted to make different concentrations and used to investigate their effect on the test crops. The experiment was carried out in sterilized petriplates with sterilized absorbent cotton kept under natural light dark cycle and was replicated 3 times. The aqueous leaf extract of Tridax procumbens was found to have inhibitory effect on germination, root, shoot elongation and fresh and dry weight of receptor plants. The bioassays indicated that the inhibitory effect was much more pronounced at higher concentrations. The most affected crop was green gram among the test crops. The inhibitory effect was much pronounced in root length as compared to shoot and germination of the receptor crops.

Biology and Medicine , 2011,
Abstract: Dermatophytic infections are cutaneous, restricted to nonliving cornified layers because of the inability of the fungi topenetrate deeper into immunocompetent hosts. The current therapeutics includes azoles, allylamines, and polyenes. The unfavourable side effects and the resistance exhibited by the fungus demand new drugs. Acorus calamus is atraditional Indian medicinal plant used for curing epilepsy, insomnia etc. In the present study, in vivo efficacy of 1- 2,4, 5 trimethoxy phenyl-1' methoxy-propionaldehyde (TMPMP) was evaluated using Wistar rats. Dermatophyticinfection was created in the Wistar rats using T. rubrum in the plantar region of rats. The infection was monitoredusing physical, microscopic, and microbiological observations. Therapy was topical application of TMPMP oninfection site for 7 days. The curing of infections was again monitored by physical, microscopic, and microbiologicalobservations.
NEUROENDOCRINE CARCINOMA OF THE NASOPHARYNX - A CASE REPORT
SETHU SUBHA
Medical and Health Science Journal , 2011,
Abstract: Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, also known as oat cell carcinoma is a frequently encountered bronchogenic neoplasm. Neuroendocrine carcinomas of the head and neck are rare aggressive tumors and pose a diagnostic and management challenge. Differentiation from conventional nasopharyngeal carcinoma is difficult due to morphological characteristics and small biopsy specimen. Distinguishing is very important because of difference in natural history ,prognosis and treatment among these neoplasms. In this article we present an unusual case of 51 year old man with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of nasopharynx, who was treated with radiotherapy and achieved complete tumor remission. Subsequently he developed local recurrence and liver metastasis and succumbed to the disease
